1996, I left care and found myself in a bedsit. My first Christmas Day I had a Pot Noodle on my own. Fast forward 30 years and young people leaving care are doing the same. How can we let this happen? Children in care are still children.

It costs something like £36k a year to keep a young person in HM Feltham. I asked a local London borough for a gym pass £45 for a young boy I was working with. He loved boxing. They stopped paying the fee. He got bored and roped into gang life. He's in jail now. £45 or £35k ?

40 years ago today..loving stable family with my Dad on Christmas Day 1983. 8 years later, I find myself in a children's home. You can not control your future as a child, but you can learn from it and turn your adversity into an advantage. Children in care are still children.…

I once disclosed to an old work colleague I was in a children's home at 11, because my dad died and my family fell apart. He told the rest or the team to watch their belongings around me! Discrimination. There's millions more from care experienced people all over the country.

In 2018, a young person I cared for was sent to a young offender institute for a crime he was forced to commit. Two months in, he wrote to me saying it was easy, that he was making friends. Also, in the envelope, there was a small piece of paper with the word 'HELP'. He was 16.

I have put my heart and soul into my work and in the 12 months we have seen the care sector for young people in its true light. Hopefully my new book can shed some light into the future and help create a better care system for young people all over the country.

Homelessness is a lifestyle choice? I've been homeless twice in my life. As a young care leaver at 16 years old and again in my 20s when I was suffering with my mental health. I never chose to live on the streets. Hundreds of young people from 18 upwards are fighting for places…

43 today. I got here that's an achievement in itself. I feel blessed that I'm able to reflect on my life, my past, my childhood trauma and help young people like me. I have my family who support me and understand how important my work is. Children in care are still children.

It's important to understand that you can be born into a world of love and it all could be taken away overnight regardless of who you are or where you come from, as it did for me. Remember this. Children in care are still children. #Thestateofit #Damaged #NeverGiveUp

I have a friend who has been a social worker for 20 years. He told me that he misses the days when he could take the YP rock climbing or to the cinema. Today he has 27 YP on his case load and his work has become a administration assessment clerk. We need SW back on the streets.

This is such a powerful image. Youth workers are so important for our children's future. The government needs to invest in youth projects, it's so important for young people's health and well-being. #prevention is key. #ListenToThis

15-year-old girl stabbed to death. Seriously. WTF. It's not OK. I sat in a council meeting in croydon and watched the local councillors argue about money being wasted and unnecessary things and ignoring youth services. They're not investing in anything youth related. I will…

I left the care sector in 1996, 16 and homeless. I returned 26 years later as a professional only to find nothing had changed. This is why I will never stop campaigning for children in care. 2023, we're still here. #changeiscoming make care experience a protected characteristic.

The campaign to make care experience a protected characteristic is personal. I left care at 16, and I know first-hand how difficult life was (still is) for young people leaving the system. I came back into the system to help other young people like me. 2024, this is a bedroom for…

Another amazing outcome for young people leaving care. 21 years old, and today she secured a job as a trainee buyer in a top luxury fashion company. So, as a gift, we got her a tube pass for a few months and a meal for two in top London restaurant. #changeiscoming .Children in…

I haven't stopped thinking about this beautiful baby all day. I'm broken. 2 years old. Why? Social services, the police...WTF. I will honour his name and campaign to make sure this never happens again. I'm absolutely lost for words. This is why safeguarding is so important. We…
