🎉 A Regency Guide to Modern Life is out today! This little book has so much of my heart in it. Even if you don’t need the advice it offers, I hope you enjoy the experience of reading it. (And finding all the fun details in
@jopodmore
’s illustrations!)
me: i hate clichés
author: they agree to a marriage of convenience but then realize they actually have feelings for each other
also me, crying: ohmygod they agree to a marriage of convenience but then realize they actually have feelings for each other
I don't know who needs to hear this, but subverting a happy ending isn't the bold storytelling move a lot of writers try to convince themselves it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
if you think you can never exit an awkward conversation, a reminder that Yoda tries to avoid talking to Luke about Vader being his father by DYING FASTER
Fantasy is when there's an entire chapter dedicated to describing food, sci-fi is when there's an entire chapter dedicated to describing transportation.
Honestly, the binge model sucks. Especially if you’re covering some shows in a professional capacity and barely have time to watch the others on a personal level. It’s like you only have a tiny window to participate in the conversation, otherwise you’re late to the party.
The Mandalorian has spent week after week growing its audience, dominating pop culture discourse. So I've said it before...
The one weekend pump and dump Netflix model is a silent killer for your own "big item" content.
It just goes away in two days.
Predictably, the replies to that “romance novels are well-written tweet” are a hot mess express to wade through, but let me tweet you one further: the sooner we dispense with the notion that certain fiction needs to be prestigious to be considered worthy of our time, the better.
The enduring popularity and success of shows like Bridgerton and Our Flag Means Death is just proof positive that audiences actually want romance so now the studios just need to Take A Hint, in this essay I will
HE NEEDS TO LIFT THE COLOR BEFORE DYEING FIRST FOR THE GREEN TO SHOW UP god this infuriates me no matter where I see it does no one understand the rules of haircare I feel like Elle Woods here
i love that Joker, a film in which a man with dark hair dyes his hair green without lightening it but it works anyway, is nominated for a best hair and makeup Oscar instead of Little Women i mean i just love it
Where’s the romance novel about the on-set intimacy coordinator who can craft the most breathtaking love scenes for the screen but can’t seem to get a handle on their own romantic life?
Romance novels have seriously been getting me Through It lately; these books are life-savers and sanity-givers and when the world is on fire, knowing I have a safe harbor in a story with a guaranteed happy ending means more than I can adequately put into words. 📚💕
There is for sure a weird thing that happens when dudes think they're writing for other dudes, but then it turns out they're actually writing for women, and instead of being like, "WOW OKAY NEAT LOVE A BIG PASSIONATE AUDIENCE!" they get, like, very mad and Need To Punish.
Because I don't think anyone in the United Federation of Planets actually, as a baseline, fucks. They do not act like people who have sexual relationships. Especially kind of sleazy ones.
OTOH, Star Wars? Obviously a future where people at least hit third base.
I want to know exactly who UNANIMOUSLY voted this through so I know whose books I will never buy, read or review again. What complete and utter horseshit.

One of the reasons I believed in RWA was because I saw how hard my friend, Courtney Milan, worked to push the organization’s inclusiveness. Today, the day before Christmas Eve, RWA notified her they’d agreed with ethics complaints filed against her for calling out racism.
In related news, I just spoke with Rhys Darby about the last two episodes of Our Flag Means Death and he told me that Taika Waititi improvised the foot nudge between Blackbeard and Stede in Episode 8 🖤🏴☠️
Who will pay me to start an exclusively romance arm at Netflix and hire a writing staff to adapt all of these amazing books that are ripe for adaptation?!
I hope Netflix realizes that we want a variety of romance books adapted and not just 5,000 Bridgerton spinoffs. GIVE ME A BRUSH WITH LOVE, TWICE SHY, GET A LIFE CHLOE BROWN, WELL MET. GIVE ME THEM ALL.
This is why Roy Kent = perfect romance hero evolution. Season 1 Roy wouldn’t have come close to doing something like this for Jamie. Season 2 Roy doesn’t hesitate.

Why is it that when anyone asks me for romance novel recommendations off the top of my head, I suddenly forget every book I’ve ever read in my entire life 🙃🙃🙃
Reminded tonight of a reason why Janeway is one of my favorite Trek captains: she literally uses the holodeck to play through Gothic and romance novel plotlines.
In case you were wondering, the

Season 3 premiere has everything: heart, humor, familiar and new faces, WayHaughtness, and a wallop of gut feels. Our girl is BACK.
Just got the chance to have a brief chat with Tadanobu Asano about his performance in Shōgun (which I could have talked for hours about!!!) and he seemed incredibly pleased when I told him he was an internet fave
This is one of those ✨announcement✨ tweets, but I finally had to redownload Slack because... I officially joined the

team earlier this week as weekend news editor!
This is how I know Hollywood doesn't have NEARLY enough romance readers among them, or that cursed movie adaptation would have never made it to casting.
Remember when Supergirl’s 100th episode was all about her relationship with Lena and Kara going back through different points in the timeline to try to make things right 😭😭😭
I can’t believe it’s already time to start pitching around my essay: So You’re Thinking of Writing a Piece About Romance Novels in February? Maybe Don’t
So I really enjoyed

! James Wan has made an unapologetically bold superhero flick, mixing adventure and fantasy elements with stunning visual effects, a terrific lead in Jason Momoa (who's clearly having the time of his life), and a great heroine in Amber Heard's Mera.
In its first four weeks, Bridgerton is projected to court more than 63 million households, which would make it Netflix's fifth biggest original series launched to date.
This is the part that nails it. The fact that you could replace that title with any major media property/franchise/cinematic universe out there says volumes.
