One thing that
@balajis
emphasized at Coinbase was the “verbs” that enable the cryptoeconomy
Save, send, receive, buy, sell, stake, spend, earn…
I always find myself coming back to this. Thinking about what the next verbs are that onboard the next 1b people
Here's your daily reminder that Coinbase is a generational company that's extremely undervalued. If you believe in crypto, you should believe in Coinbase.
One takeaway from ETH Denver: there's probably 1b in startup equity in DAO tooling for an ecosystem with <200 established DAOs. Insanely overvalued.
Definitely going to have a lot of churn over the next two year
As someone who no longer works at Coinbase, I can safely say $COIN is so massively undervalued. The team there is insane, no way it's only worth 30b.
(not investment advice obvi)
Some bittersweet news to share today: after four years, this week will be my last at Coinbase.
Words can't describe how grateful I am to have built with and learned from the Coinbase team.
In 2021 I moved into this apartment in NYC with a duffle bag and a backpack.
Here I found a girl
Fell in love with a girl
Got a dog
Started a company
Hosted numerous employees and friends in the guest room
Just a reminder that if you zoom out life is mostly up and to the
When you build on
@base
, your users pay a 1c fee over a 0.1c fee on alt L1s, but you get...
- Coinbase distribution
- Including army of Coinbase engineering and marketing behind you
- Ethereum distribution (most real users, not bots)
- Security of mainnet Ethereum, most
Crypto is going from an alternative investing class to one of a consumers primary financial accounts
The biggest shift in finance over the next 5 years will be the migration of billions of users onboarding into this new financial system

One thing
@balajis
taught us at Coinbase is that adoption starts at the fringes, the extreme use cases that would not be possible without a new technology, then it moves inward.
SF energy in the last two years has gone from "who raised from who" to "who's building what." Good energy
Feels like the golden era of being a builder in the bay. NYC is great, but I've decided to move to SF full time
I've been a blockchain developer for 5+ years, at places like Coinbase
Sometimes it can be daunting to know where to start with blockchain development
Here's a short guide with resources on building your first blockchain app 🧵
@OfficialLoganK
@Google
Switch to an OpenAI api format, and don’t require google cloud auth to get running on the API. Auth on google is a total pain, makes working with vertex almost untenable
I think this narrative that base can’t ship like a startup is a total misnomer.
Knowing that team it’s actually pretty isolated from the rest of the coinbase machine, and they essentially pulled all of the best devs to work on it.
Literally the dream team when it comes to
Excited to announce I won first place in the Mistral AI hackathon with my hack “the perfect prompt”!
It’s test driven development for prompting. Meaning you can make the perfect prompt for your model just by writing test cases.
(Check out the dev post in the next tweet)
The first
@MistralAI
hackathon was a success, thank you to all participants! Here are the winners (links in thread):
- Fine-tuned Mistral 7B playing DOOM
- Optimize prompts through tests
- Mistral-powered search engine for ML research
- Mistral playing Pac-Man
Coinbase earning season: good results, yes, but here’s what people don’t fundamentally understand about Coinbase which will take it another 100x .
Coinbase is still another 180 pivot from what will eventually take it to a $1T company. The bet here is on the team to execute to
Cofounder and I decided to split earlier this year. One of the unsexy things about startups. Decent dude, it just didn't work out.
They wanted to start a co, so I intro'd them to a colead for their seed round.
If that doesn't say playing the long game, I don't know what does.
Apps like
@toshi
are going to make Dapps easily accessible. It's important to prioritize mobile responsiveness when designing. Lesson learned to deploy to the Ropsten test net. It's only about 10% more effort to deploy to Toshi and opens your Dapp to a new set of users.
Some hard lessons we learned working on DAOs and token models as a US based company.
tl;dr we couldn't move forward with our decentralized vision, but we'll keep building anyways
Hoping that the US will eventually get this right, but not today.

@jessepollak
is worth a follow
One of the most genuine folks in crypto. I watched him help lead engineering to scale Coinbase.
Now he's helping launch Base.
Truly cares about decentralization and building the next layer of the internet.
Thing that makes me the most excited about
@coinbase
is that they're putting a set of core engineering leaders in charge who believe in the ethos
Only up from here 🚀
Any crypto folks interested in some free coworking in NYC? We have a few extra desks at the

Why hackathons are awesome:
90% of what we call innovation happens under stressors where there is no choice but to innovate
The time and resource constraints of hackathons create the perfect environment to simulate those stress dynamics
When I was an intern
@coinbase
I took 100% of my salary in Bitcoin
Learned some valuable lessons in maximalism and taxes
Today, wish I would have held on to more, but had to find a way to pay rent
Megathread on the blockchain data infrastructure market.
tl;dr, this market has gotten increasingly competitive, with very little in term of moats or niches for companies. Lessons from a year of building, and what I think will happen
What the entrepreneurs and VCs should know🧵
My girlfriend and I used to work on the same team at Coinbase
Sometimes she finds some of my old code and likes to point out all of my mistakes
Especially when imports aren't ordered 🙃
Base is the best of all worlds in terms of chain to build on:
- No network token with VC economics
- Fast, scalable, and secure
- Ethereum ethos and community
- Best distribution

Former Coinbase engineer here 👋
I can't speak to specifics on what's going on right now (since I'm not there), but it's 100% a technical issue and not market manipulation (which would be illegal).
Generally, scaling these systems is very difficult, and modeling real traffic
Despite the bear market, we're still building 🚀. We're excited to launch our alpha today to enable builders to onboard the next billion users into web3
- A fully featured developer portal💻
- Indexed endpoints to get a complete picture of a user onchain👉
- Company rebrand🖌️

So grateful for my cofounder
@0xMert_
these days. Guy literally filled our entire headcount
@PolyweaveAPI
with top 10% talent in less than a month. Couldn’t be more proud of our team. What we end up shipping is going to blow people away.
Incredibly grateful to have had this group of people in my life for the past 4 years. Definitely going to be a bittersweet goodbye. Proud of what we accomplished and humbled by what you all taught me. Here are some of the highlights from this weekend:
Offboarded myself from engineering last week. Bittersweet, but it's exciting to just be focused on product and revenue. One of the biggest transitions in my career
I talk to customers all day, and after talking to over 100 of the largest web3 and web2 institutions using crypto, one of the key things I've learned: people only care about the EVM
Two exchanges I've talked to care about bitcoin
Three funds care about solana or cosmos
But

Building dev tools for web3 is one of the most asymmetric, non-zero sum games you could possibly be playing.
There are 2.6m developers in the world and only ~20k web3 developers.
Market is huge. Growth is vertical. Game worth playing.
Whether it was architecting systems to serve millions of users, writing small checks through Coinbase Ventures, or firefighting incidents until 4am, Coinbase always found ways to challenge me.
Really grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from Katherine. She's one of the best investors I've had the opportunity to work with. Super excited to see what she does next 🚀
i will continue to invest & support the best founders in the crypto ecosystem, but also excited to spend time exploring some side projects.
feeling very lucky have an amazing & inspiring support system- and grateful that i have the privilege to explore and pursue my passions.
When I first joined coinbase there was a slide deck for new hires that talked about how we were going to transition from then investment phase to the utility phase
That is about to finally happen, most people just don’t know it yet
What I love about our team is we ship fast af
Everyone is ex-coinbase or top school (eg stanford)
Every day is just having fun at the office building products people want
Feels easy
Such a sad day for my former Coinbase colleagues yesterday. I can only imagine joining a company excited about its mission and potential only to be let go from a resourcing decision.
For anyone who was let go or anyone who is still there, my DMs are open. I'm hiring as well.
Something magic about our team. All 20-somethings in NYC, working in person. Everyone is here to have fun and build. Diverse AF (I'm the only typical white-guy techie on the engineering team)
I'm hiring for backend and data engineers to join our team and work on our data warehouse.
We're adding all of the core chains to our offering and will be the most comprehensive data warehouse in web3
Shoot me a DM and join us on this journey 🚀
W E A R E H I R I N G
I'm looking for a talented, web3 native, dev community lead to join our team.
We're all based in NYC, and like to have in-person fun.
Competitive salary, full benefits (incl the best health insurance we can buy), laptop and tech setup included.
Seeing a bunch of pre product market fit crypto companies raising 10-20m
My question is how are founders realistically going to put that money to work
Seems like a recipe for over hiring, not giving employees enough equity, and missing investor expectations
The number of difficult conversations and decisions I’ve had to make since becoming a founder is off the charts. Such a good learning opportunity, yet so difficult
Wanted to put out a thread about an exciting new product we're working on
@CoherentAPI
tl;dr
We're building a comprehensive data warehouse that integrates our enriched data into your own big data environment.

Like many in Boulder I'm deeply saddened today. I lived across from that king supers in college and went there regularly.
Seems that friends and family are safe ❤️
Sooner we get better gun reform the better.
Hey twitterverse! I'm donating free time to help small businesses improve their web presence / move business online to help pad any slowdown caused by shelter-in-place orders. If you or anyone you know needs help moving stores online, improving web design etc. DM's are open!
Something about building something that can process hundreds of txns/sec and support millions of API calls per second while I sleep is deeply satisfying
Amazing to me how quickly the Boulder shooting has become the 3rd, 4th... headline in the national media.
We really are quite conditioned to this normal.
Tons of ❤️ for my community, stay strong everyone.
We're hiring at Polyweave! We have some super interesting distributed systems problems to work on, have a world class team, and are giving out generous equity.
