An abusive theology of forgiveness can be one of the most damaging spiritual wounds inflicted upon abuse survivors as it is a tactic often used by offenders and church leaders to protect themselves as they coerce the survivor to “forgive” and “reconcile”.

Because many predators understand the laws regarding the age of consent, they will focus on grooming the child before that age in preparation for initiating “consensual” sexual contact after the victim reaches the age of consent. We need laws to make such grooming a crime.

A victim of adult clergy sexual abuse reported the abuse to her church & was assigned a “care” team who instructed her to leave town in order to "protect his [pastor's] family". When the victim refused, the "care" team accused her of being "rebellious". Who's caring for who??

To make matters worse, this family has been forced to uproot and move out of their beloved neighborhood while the pastor’s family remains…never providing even a hint of an apology. This is why we sue churches and those responsible for the sexual abuse of others. 2/2

If a pastor or any other spiritual leader is sexting you or sending you pictures of their anatomy, they are abusing their power and you’re being victimized. Consider speaking with us about your possible legal options and do NOT delete their texts or photos.

“Righteous anger is usually not about oneself. It is about those whom one sees being harmed and whom wants to help. Righteous anger is a tool of injustice, a scythe of compassion, more than a reactive emotion.” [Desmond Tutu]

In fact, you’ve actually managed to grow this crisis to something even more unfathomable and tragic. This is the last public conversation I am going to have with you.  Though my invitation to buy you a beer next time you’re in town still stands. 11/11

Abusers who threaten to commit suicide if the victim exposes the abuse are merely attempting to manipulate and shame the victim into silence.

Claiming that the reason for not releasing an investigation report is out of “privacy concerns for the victims” is usually a cover for keeping the truth hidden. A good investigator can write a transparent report that protects the identities of victims.
