@DavidLarter An issue with training is not wanting to “waste” resources. When going to the range or using a virtual shoot-don’t shoot scenario, every training officer in the military and elsewhere wants to take advantage of firing a weapon (lethal or non lethal).

@WSJ 6. The Hill-Burton Act of 1946 provided federal grants to states for hospital building, but to get that money they had to include an emergency department. It's a requirement that's still in place for many non-profit hospitals today. (Let's get back to combat trauma care...)

@WSJ 9. One of the biggest things helicopters in Korea and Vietnam taught us was that getting severely wounded troops to hospitals fast was just about the best thing for them. Transportation technology made it so that if a soldier didn't die on the spot, they were likely to live!

@WSJ 19. Combat gauze with hemostatic agents, tourniquets and chest seals were in many people's first aid kits in combat. Now police and first responders carry them in the states. If you have traumatic injury back home all those lessons from war are used to treat you quickly.

@WSJ 7. The Korean conflict (and Vietnam) saw the widespread use of helicopters to evacuate wounded to field medical centers. That quick-evacuation saved lives because it delivered the wounded to a place where they could get care. And it gave doctors more practice!
