I remember staying 4 months without curtains at my first home I rented, because of sapa. Fast forward ~7 years and I effortlessly paid ~20m to rent and furnish a 4bedroom duplex. In one go. Seems like a long time, but it's not. Success will come in tech. If you persevere.

ALX Africa alone is training over 30,000+ Nigerians to start a career in tech in the past 2 years. But, if you check Software engineering Jobs In Nigeria on LinkedIn, there's just 400. Indeed has just 300. What does this mean for your career in tech ?

I've mentored and guided a lot of amazing folk to become software engineers, and 90% of them drop out or don't make it. I realised its because they have very wrong ideas about this industry and how it works. Here are my top 5 myths about being a software engineer Thread 👇👇

When I was learning to code I got very frustrated when I couldn't remember the names of functions or definitions of words like HTTP. Until one day my tech lead showed me how he searches google every 5mins while working. Don't strive to memorise. Understand and google the rest.

If you’re new to coding and not from a technical background and having a very hard time going through ALX, don’t feel bad. It wasn’t created for you, but for people with at least one year of coding exposure. I made all my mentees drop out of it and join Alt school 💁

2 years into programming, and you don't understand the fundamentals of how the Web works .... And that's perfectly fine. I wrote Javascript promises for 6 months and never understood a thing. But I kept shipping till I understood. You'll be fine. Keep learning.

Harsh truth: You find coding hard because you haven't done it enough times. The difference between you and an extremely good programmer is the number of times they've had to do the same thing over and over. Want to be excellent at CSS ? Build 500 CSS projects.
