Build REAL WORLD portfolio projects. And this works for developers, designers, product managers, data scientists.
Let me give you a practical example.

The secret here is to find a valuable problem that will attract a target audience and solve it. Preferably a problem that takes less than a month to build and publish.
If you're a designer or product manager, collaborate with a team of other techies growing.

Put your work out there, list it as actual experience on your resume, and just keep building valuable shit.
You will drastically increase the amount of "luck" you have in this industry.

Participate in community programs.
One selling factor I have so far in my career is the fact that I was an Auth0 ambassador some years back. It's done great things for me, and I got a chance to learn valuable concepts and meet new people.

During interviews, I talk a lot about the experience I gained, and it helps me stand out all the time.
A few days ago I applied for AWS Community Builder Program.
There are hundreds of programs. Join them and contribute to the community growth.
Great networking strategy.

Create content online. You don't have to be on social media. Write on your blog. Write for popular publications like Free Code Camp, Smashing Magazine and build an expertise. I challenge you to write one extremely detailed article a week, and make sure it's published.

A Youtube Video I created about JWT and local storage has over 90k views so far. I've got job opportunities and speaking opportunities because I presented myself as a master of the subject matter, and people reached out.
It will also contribute a lot to your personal brand.
