help my friend Maggie get her gender-affirming surgeries this year! she was hospitalized for half a year and has faced repeated housing insecurity, so she could really benefit from community financial support
I wrote about 2 kids who have barricaded themselves in a bedroom for the last month to defy family court orders forcing them back into the custody of their father, despite DCFS findings that the father sexually abused them 🧵
cannot a man or a boy "mother"? of course! some of the most motherly people we know are male, & isn't that a great idea? I'll bet some hidebound folks have never even heard of alloparenting, which is common in animal species including Homo sapiens.
the use of therapy language here and in the followup really drives home the extent to which this rhetorical mode has grown from & largely left small/online communities mitigating interpersonal harm. now it's part of the toolkit of reinforcing institutional power
depressed enough to look into this, so I'll just say that I'll never not be scared of the facility with which people can go into 'inquisitor of harm' mode in response to the most incidental/glancing conflict/unpleasantness/interpersonal tensions if you're a trans woman
that Lena Wilson watched Bodies Bodies Bodies, a movie mainly about weaponizing harm for interpersonal shittiness and the awkwardness of rich kids relatively new to partying in their parents' palatial estates, and couldn't see anything besides tits is enormously telling of her
@introvertedwife
the backlash is because it's a reactionary genre that reinforces stereotypes of criminals, feeds into moral panics about crime waves, and exploits the suffering of living families of crime victims.
piracy is a tool for getting good art into the hands of the (internet-access having) masses, an income-blind means to an aesthetic/historical/political education. that's why authorities are so intent to crack down on it and you're a stooge if you're an artist crowing about it
i'm tweaking out this morning because this post immediately clicked w me as beautiful and twinged w a certain sadness, and the rest of you are either making insinuations or reading it as satire
having a trans gf is cool because she's just like, a boy that's soft to fuck. she'll play need for speed hot pursuit with you because it was her favorite game growing up too. she drinks the beer you buy and in the quiet dark you can barely hear it when she cries herself to sleep
cis men are not ontologically evil, and treating them as if they are very easily bleeds into transphobia and ends up hurting trans/gender non-conforming people across the board
this study reinforces my belief that the associations suggested by neuroimaging studies are utterly worthless. they're just a way to provide cheap scientific cover to preconceived beliefs & biases
all jokes aside, I'm unsettled that they did this study. the Discussion section says the quiet part out loud:
"The risk lies in young females developing a romanticized or skewed perception of real-world homosexual relationships and even denying one's own female identity"
I do care that he is upset, for the reason that despite the critique of exploitative filmmaking embedded in May December, the film put Fuulaau in a bind in which he's receiving a new wave of attention for the harm done to him, but without any financial benefit
@bitchvibrations
I've been low-key annoyed by the "so depressed I've been listening to mitski 🤪" jokes I've seen for the last X years, but life really does imitate art
this summary of the texts between Brianna's killers should underscore that even when cis women needn't be repulsed by transfemininity -- they can instead be fetishistically fixated on it -- and either impulse can result in our being killed.
I am at Manchester Crown Court to report on the trial of the two young people who are accused of the murder of Brianna Ghey.
The trial begins today at 10.30am.
Follow this thread for live coverage and analysis of the events.
one of my more controversial beliefs (probably) is that the misery experienced by people upset that they've never had sex is worthy of empathy, though of course none of the cognitive distortions/doomer worldviews/incel ideologies are
@bimbotheory
part of the reason trans women insulting each others appearances is so insidious is that it opens the floodgates for naked external transmisogyny
game show hosted by Sarah Schulman in which she listens to contestants describing various situations and then pushes a giant, fuck off button labeled either CONFLICT or ABUSE
Hideo Kojima is getting described as the Abe shooter across international media, and meanwhile on Twitter he's posting like "for the first time in 20 years I listened to the album WEEZER by Weezer (1994)"
*stoned out of my mind* no you see, there's parallels between early lesbian novels and gangster movies -- it matters when more than one of em is alive at the end
@fluff_weather
I went from never having heard of this guy five minutes ago to him being one of my favorite human beings. Inspiring, heartbreaking, infuriating.
URGENT: my friend Violet needs your help to escape an abusive and hostile living situation. please share/donate so that a trans woman and her cat daughter can have a safe place to live!
and while I wouldn't say that he/him pronouns are "appropriate" in that context, I see that gendered honorific use is an internalized expectation of being a non-native English speaking service worker in the city and I have no investment in this kind of transactional interaction
(it's also regularly used to bully and marginalize people in worse social positions in noninstitutional community settings, but that's a different story)
this is also not something I hold over the head of TME people specifically; I've seen trans women do this to other trans women, because this is the sledgehammer that we are culturally conditioned to use against any and all nails
"queer safe spaces" don't exist. there's no ineffable quality that makes a queer space meaningfully different from a non-queer space, and queer people are not automatically safe in a space simply by decree or by virtue of everyone else in the space being queer
sometimes -- and I know this sounds crazy but hear me out for a sec -- you call yourself something as one of the first steps in accumulating that body of lived material experience
at the end of dyke march I got sir'd by a worker at a pizza place (nothing unusual for me), and someone in line expressed alarm ("you know he just misgendered you, right?")
not to essentialize too much, but I find that I am much more likely to be genuinely happy instead of jealous that my friends are doing well compared to before transition
during modernism you had to put phrases like 'impistillate iris' in your poems. sometimes cool. these days you have to say 'yr'. 'yr hands' and stuff like that. i see/yr face. always utter shit. we live on a drooping frond
at their best, community cancelations and callouts are essentially disaster profiteering. all of the enemies of the accused come out of the woodwork, now given an acceptable object to direct their pent-up rage against, usually with the goal of total ostracism and isolation
why do these guys have the most generic-ass sounding account names. "transmasc takes" "trans guy energy" like a telling disconnection from any particulars of the experience. sounds astroturfed imo
