Only 3⃣ luxury-grade timber tree species were replanted: ➡️ Siamese Rosewood ➡️ Cambodia Beng ➡️ Burma Padauk Thousands of these saplings came from a government tree nursery in Siem Reap. Officials told @nasadip20 and I that "we cannot just do conservation without development."

Forever grateful I got to work with the late Nick Oza on this project. We spent several days together reporting by the 🇺🇸-🇲🇽 border for @azcentral . Our long drives, brutal hikes, daily meals and run-ins with Border Patrol became the foundation of a friendship I miss deeply.
