A friend of mine couldn't get individual insurance in her 20's because she had a previous diagnosis of plantar fasciitis. People assume the pre-existing conditions folks were getting denied for were all things like cancer, they weren't.

What people don’t get about pre-ACA is that, if your work didn’t get you health insurance, ANYONE could be rejected for a “pre-existing condition.” I was rejected for depression. A friend of mine was rejected for a past case of plantar fasciitis.

Hard to explain the reality of pre-ACA unless you lived through it, but: Before the ACA, if you got sick, health insurers could decide to just not cover you. Many people could not get health instance. An estimated 25-50% of America had pre-existing conditions. Obama fixed that.

I just underwrote an office to affordable housing conversion and can now say confidently that in most cases, it’s significantly cheaper on a per unit basis to build new ground up affordable multi than to convert an unused office building.

I once worked for a company that made me take a vacation day if for any reason I wasn’t butt-in-seat from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. I wonder how much of the backlash towards being in the office is actually a backlash towards that level of controlling and disrespect of employees’ time.

One of the most surprising things to me is how entitled people feel to live in a certain city. If you can't afford a city, move. My moving costs out of Boston MA in 2018 were significantly less than the cash I would have needed to sign on a new place there.

Good friend is late 30's. In shape, makes over $300k/year, has a condo overlooking a great downtown. He gets consistently ghosted, ignored for days, or is told after a date or two that "this isn't working." Modern women are broken.

This is a preposterous share image from @FortuneMagazine for a very reasonable way to make housing more affordable. The average home size in the USA has *tripled* since the 1950s while household size has shrunk considerably. We need many many many more modest sized homes.

Ever since I moved to NYC, I've had to watch my budget with a level of care that I haven't in years to save, and my checking account is basically zeroed out at the end of the month. I think that's what people are talking about - but that's not paycheck to paycheck.

A city cannot "democratically redistribute" land in the United States - you'd have to have a constitutional amendment to even make that legal. You might as well suggest moving to Mars as an alternative for how feasible this is.
