I love reading about all the things people think they’re going to do as parents before they actually have any kids. The fantasy of it all. Especially screen time bc it’s complicated! My latest for
@TheCut
I laboured for 7 hours and gave birth in a mask so I think the rest of you can wear one for like 10 minutes to go inside a store to grab a Jamba Juice or whatever you do
I assume a Peloton is like $10,000
so every time a person I know buys one I’m like holy shit is everyone a millionaire?! I will not look up the actual price
A lady had her giant poodle blocking the door to the coffee shop and as I try to reach for the door she stops me and says, “oh please don’t pet the dog she’s shy” and I’m like lady I’m getting coffee not petting your dog and this is the dog
Honestly ppl losing their minds to simp for pharmaceutical companies (who are refusing to break patent and actually save the the world) is pushing me past joker mode into extreme chaos mode
My husband just asked me if I have a shoehorn. Like after 5 years of marriage including 2 kids and multiple international moves, I’ve been hiding a shoehorn from him this whole time
I’m a writer because one time an English teacher read my dumb essay to the class as an example of how to write and I’ve been chasing that high of external yet ultimately meaningless validation ever since.
Just a reminder that the productivity fetish is what got us to a place where ppl are debating going to work sick because otherwise they can’t survive so maybe during a pandemic all you need to think about is being alive and taking care of your community
Abolish the false notion that women are somehow immune from committing violence, perpetuating racist injustice and upholding corrupt systems. This is not feminism
Wild guess but is it because the majority of ppl now live paycheck to paycheck so even the vaguest threat of termination is enough to send anyone into an absolute tailspin of financial anxiety and crippling fear? This is just a guess
I hope one thing we lose forever is the office mentality that coming into work while sick is some kind of measure of your dedication and commitment as an employee.
i’m sorry but the fact that newborns have all this gas that’s freaking them out and you as the parent have to get it out or they won’t chill out is a massive mistake in the evolution of mankind
I didn’t feel powerful at 20 or 23 or even 30, didn’t really start to come into my own until 35 and only getting better from there. aging is a blessing and a privilege— what a gift to still be here
No it’s actually CRIMINAL to not recognize Michaela Coel for what she did, not just w trauma or sexual assault or consent, but w friendship and art and power and healing! I May Destroy You was an artist executing a singular vision, pure and focused
#GoldenGlobes
For an entire summer we watched peaceful protests and rallies be presided over by riot police using tear gas, rubber bullets and literal kidnappings. And these people have the ability to storm the capitol? It's not surprising but it should be damning
the funniest thing about the age gap essay is that the guy is 30!!! what does a 30 yr old man have to teach literally anyone?? this guys frontal lobe has barely formed. sad
Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig weren’t snubbed it just wasn’t a great movie and Ryan Gosling very obviously was amazing in it. The consolation prize is the billion dollars it made
Have become obsessed with this TikTok'er who gets up every day at 3:30am and part of her daily morning routine is "silent reading" (it's just reading not sure why she calls it that) and I'm just haunted by the kind of life she's living. She doesn't work early or have kids
So much loss and grief this year, so much time lost with the people we love, so much anxiety and stress and shame and fear so much to balance and negotiate, debt, insecurity, isolation, yet the one thing they never let us escape was work.
I AM SO UPSET IM CRYING. We’ve been doing the same thing for a year and a half EXCEPT what the doctors say works: paid sick leave and prioritizing the most at-risk workers and neighborhoods.
The Netflix layoffs are awful, makes me think how so many of us have spent our working lives w zero job security, treated as disposable, begging for basic rights, getting ping pong tables instead. Now ppl are surprised millions are quitting their jobs and taking back some control
the kind of generational trauma being created here, the kind of pain that will live in their bones is haunting. these children are all our children and to see what they’re carrying literally and figuratively is breaking me every single day
I think the reaction to 13 yr olds xmas list was abt a general unease w the erasure of adolescence online - I see 10 yr olds doing 15 step skincare routines w retinol & GRWM’s for school w full night makeup being a teen used to be messy & fun but there’s no room for failure on sm
The decline of the teen girl magazine is actually very sad. Media for the youth! Very important. Not only does it give them their own space but also allows them to embrace adolescence without yearning for adulthood too tough. I loved my Mizz and my Bliss and my Teen Vogue
Stayed in a BnB where the owners made their own wine. They left 2 little bottles in the room and kept asking how it was and it was disgusting so I took the bottles with me so she wouldn’t know I tried one, hated it and left the second untouched. She charged me for the bottles
Remember for like a minute we thought the pandemic was an opportunity to address the untenable inequality in our world? And now we're back to begging for a vaccine so we can return to juggling 3 shitty jobs just so we can barely afford to survive? I'M SO ANGRY
4 yr old not feeling well so I brought him a cold cloth, propped him up w pillows, put on a show, made warm milk w honey and gave him a massage. He seemed to feel better so I laid down to take a break and then I hear a little voice say, “mommy don’t stop doing things for me”
“the birth rate is declining have more kids!”
“ok make daycare more affordable”
“if you can’t afford to have kids, you shouldn’t have them”
“ok we won’t”
“…”
I've had my two white kids now I go around convincing brown ppl not to have any so that Tommy and Byron can hoard their air, water and food. And I'm disguising this supremacy as feminism!
Never not funny to me that some rich ppl will send their kids to the best, most expensive schools from birth, all so they can have the same job as … me
Me watching a horror movie where a family takes a rural road trip: NO DON'T PULL OVER FOR MA'S APPLE PIE IT'S A TRAP!
Me on a rural road trip w my family: PULL OVER RIGHT NOW WE NEED TO FOLLOW THOSE STICK SYMBOLS IN CASE THERE'S SOME CUTE COUNTRY PIE OR LIKE A QUILT OR SOMETHING!
Sorry but the fact that we’re all still working amd trying to carry on like yes gotta do this spreadsheet in the middle of constant death and disease is completely fucked. The world will burn around us and we’ll still be sending emails like, “lemme circle back on that”
The whole point of laptops, strong wireless networks, video calling etc is to be able to work from anywhere so forcing ppl to return to a greige windowless building that costs a ridiculous amount of money and is an hour away seems so stupid
Rewatching Contagion and waiting for the part of the movie where the government gives up on a vaccine rollout and Matt Damon has to figure out how to get his remaining family members vaccinated by constantly refreshing a Twitter account call "Vaccine Hunters"
God please don’t “think of the women and interpreters” Afghanistan- everyone deserves peace and safety and life regardless of what humanity you need to create to empathize with the people of the Middle East
I’m at my personal breaking point today like it’s a global pandemic hundreds of thousands have died, livelihoods decimated, children’s lives forever impacted, but we’re all supposed to keep working at max capacity, housing is precarious and unaffordable and it’s just like enough
White women (moms especially) will go on social media, straight up humiliate their dumb dumb husbands for content/vitality and then get upset when everyone rightly calls the men out for being useless. Either yr partner IS incompetent or ur happy to degrade them for views
“Just breastfeed” is a cruel suggestion to those suffering through this formula shortage and grossly misunderstands who uses formula and why. I wrote about it for
@glamourmag
Imagine thinking ABBA is vapid when in fact they so perfectly capture the duality of the human spirit with, what Sarah Hagi so aptly calls, their “sad bangers” Show me a better breakup song than Winner Takes it All
When a man compliments me: Ok thanks what do you want
When a woman compliments me: OH MY GOD THANK YOU IT’S NOTHING HONESTLY YOU ARE THE ONE THAT’S AMAZING
Toronto is stepping out of an almost 8 month lockdown (the longest consecutive lockdown in the world) today and it already feels wildly chaotic out here
The kids had the best day everything was nice anyway I’ve spent every spare second of Christmas thinking about “Hilaria” Baldwin asking how you say cucumber in English even though she is an American raised in Boston by her American parents
Why are so many 25 yr olds getting so into interior design? You should have like an ugly IKEA couch and a coffee table you found in the garbage like a normal person in their first real apartment. You don’t need a vintage Roche Bobois lounger you don’t even have health insurance
my daughter was telling me that a dad from preschool has no hair because he saw something scary and got so scared that his hair ran away and i was like, “oh that’s funny” and she said “it’s not funny mom, it’s SAD”
Pls anyone watching this disastrous Love is Blind reunion?? Barnett SOLD his house to pay off Amber’s debt and then she’s sitting there still stressing about Jessica?!
Why don’t millennials have money? Man it’s a good question. In 1990 the average price of a home in Toronto was around $250,000 now it’s over a million! But the salaries haven’t changed that dramatically and the cost of an education has tripled!
Does the black square advance the issues you’re seeking to highlight and “listen” to or does it just make you feel good and take up more of the space you’re supposed to be ceding?
It's not just about hybrid or remote work, I think we want employers to consider the totality of our lives, our responsibilities outside of the office and who we are as people and use that holistic picture to create a more empathetic, flexible work environment.
I know a lot of women turning 30 this year and I just want to let them know that literally nothing is going to change and you’ll be fine. You don’t need to make some kind of bucket list or freak out about learning some kind of lesson you’re just gonna have worse hangovers relax
A private firm in the UK got a govt contract to create food boxes for low income families - each food box was meant to be £30 of food to last 5 days. Here’s what they sent out. The utter depravity of it
Whoever thinks it is ok to send out bits of vegetables and fruit like this AND scraps of other food in what seems to be money bags is very wrong. Imagine thinking that the saving to be made on half a carrot was worth it or that it might be hygienic enough to send out fish in bags
I'm obsessed w the psychology behind posting this. They know this is deranged and to avoid scrutiny they can just not post evidence of it but the Kardashians don't know how to exist except in the public sphere. Anyway wow I'll do anything to avoid work I guess
Ok Kendall Jenner blowing out candles as a masked waiter holds her cake and tries to move out of the way was actually the scariest thing I saw on Halloween
Very telling to see ppl say Trinity Bellwoods had become an “open air drug zone” because of the unhoused. I lived there for 10 years and on weekends that’s exactly what it was used for but when it’s middle-class white ppl using drugs somehow that’s always perfectly safe
Happy International Womens Day, please dont post a photo of your girlfriend/wife and then list a bunch of stuff she does for you that's not what this is about
