- ‘The Age of Incoherence? Understanding Mixed and Unclear Ideology Extremism’
I am currently researching anti blasphemy extremism in the UK and it's a pretty bleak picture. Incidents like Wakefield and Batley are now becoming a regular part of life in Britain. Unfortunately, this is not just because of Islamists or 'extremists' 1/
The fact that the boy in Wakefield is autistic is essentially irrelevant and focusing on this obfuscates the real problem. If the boy wasnt autistic would it be fine that he was suspended, faced death threats and had his mom beg for forgiveness and safety?
The act of accusing an individual of blasphemy should be seen as incitement to violence and confronted and rejected by the state and wider society. It's either that or wait until we start having the same experiences as France (Charlie Hebdo massacre, Samuel Paty murder etc). End/
For a number of reasons, many have come to view a particularly honour obsessed form of Islam as the only form of Islam that needs to be respected and listened to. It has a pretty widespread following in the UK and comes almost entirely from from Pakistan 2/
There, the lynching and intimidation of accused blasphemers is regular occurance, egged on by a variety of Islamic groups and not just Islamists. Sadly, forms of Sufism in Pakistan are at the forefront of anti blasphemy work and have been imported into the UK via 3/
This is now a problem which goes beyond Islamism and Jihadism and will require both anti extremism work as well as stronger and more serious regulation against mosques, Imams and islamic centres found to be accusing people of blasphemy and campaigning around this 6/
Pakistani imams/activists who vocally support murder and execution of blasphemers in their country. Anti blasphemy activists in the UK present honour of Islam as a cause worth dying for and teach that those supporting free speech and expression are engaged in a war on Islam 5/
a number of groups and influential individuals who have been at the forefront of protests outside Batley school and the Lady of Heaven screenings. These ppl are careful not to directly incite violence in the UK but have a record of supporting and promoting among UK audiences 4/
Been coming for some time. The anti-Ulez crowd are part of wider anti state conspiracy movement in UK who are also focused on vaccines,15 minute cities and cashless societies. They were radicalised during COVID mostly. I've attended a few of their rallies some pics to follow 1/
This will be interesting to get more detail on. In simple terms, Hamas and ISIS have much to bitterly disagree over doctrinally. The former, as an outcrop of the Muslim Brotherhood, has quite a different theology/ideology and is technically a militant Islamist group. ISIS is a 1/

BREAKING: Author Salman Rushdie has been attacked as he was about to give a lecture in western New York. An
@AP
reporter witnessed a man storm the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and begin punching or stabbing Rushdie as he was being introduced.
@Shayan86
How many people do you think youre exposing to the video by posting this? I certainly hadnt heard of it until you used your feed to tell people off about it. Give this another thought perhaps
Academia seems to be one of the main western sources of Hamas apologia and claims it's not a terrorist group. Let me just say it's not all of us..we aren't all smiling and celebrating at the sight of intentional slaughter of children. Those who do have lost their moral compass 1/

- I interviewed US & Canadian army vets & combat medics who are heeding President Zelensky’s call to form a new international unit to fight Russia. One guy said he’s selling his motorcycle to fund the trip
Earlier this month in Birmingham, UK supporters of Pakistani extremist anti-blasphemy group TLP held a rally against Swedish Koran burnings. It was the most extreme and vicious rally I've seen here since the height of al-Muhajiroun activism around a decade ago. This is a problem
Much to criticise about Israeli settlement growth. But if you're an academic using "decolonisation" and "coloniser" lens to analyse Israel then you're unserious. Idea that establishment of Israel can be compared to Euro colonising of Africa or "discovery" of America is ridiculous
When Putin used both radiological and chemical weapons to murder people in the UK, was that also NATO's fault? How about when he helped in the massacre of Syrian civilians? Also NATO I guess?
@EwanMacKenna
Reconsider this silly tweet.
@Jake_Hanrahan
is a proper independent guerrilla journalist who has been to ukraine and other wars over many years and deserves more respect than that. Stick to the sports maybe
Many seem to think that you can't be a resistance group and terrorist at the same time. You can and Hamas are. Also, being a resistance group does not give carte blanche to commit crimes against humanity. Sadly fellow academics seem to be morally confused about this. I hope 2/
I wrote on here recently about the differences between Hamas and ISIS and agree with experts that comparisons are technically wrong and misleading. BUT we should understand that expecting the public to appreciate these nuances is unrealistic and ivory tower-ish 1/2
Yes context does matter. In the case of NATO bombing of Serbia and Montenegro the context was a fascist ultranationalist murderer was overseeing an ethnic cleansing, which NATO stopped. The context of the Ukraine invasion are Russian made up claims about Nazis
These crimes committed by the US and its NATO allies do not in any way excuse or justify Russia’s aggression. At the same time, history and context matter. If the US wants the moral high ground, it should cease its own ongoing war crimes and support for war crimes.
BREAKING: The author of the ‘Satanic Verses’ book, Salman Rushdie, has been attacked as he was about to give a lecture in New York. Eye witnesses said that a man stormed the stage at the Chautauqua Institution and began punching or stabbing Rushdie as he was being introduced.

Awlaki was an expert at pandering to the lowest common denominator of American radical leftism and anti-Americanism - was one of the ways he sold jihadist ideology to his young American audience
One area they bitterly disagree on is involvement in political parties and voting - Brotherhood inspired Islamists like Hamas happy to use the electoral system while Salafi-Jihadists view this as sinful idol worshipping. Hamas is also less concerned with global jihad 3/

I just find it weird that you'd publish this sort of article in a leading broadsheet, right now, as though the ongoing war is actually a TV show and this man isn't probably about to be assassinated
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that, above all else, antisemitism is the main inspiration for terrorism (from both the extreme right and jihadists) in the world today
NEW - Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, proclaimed in his sermon today that soldiers dying in Ukraine would have all their sins washed away.
As far as the public is concerned these groups are basically the same, and you know what? They aren't a million miles away. Big picture - we are dealing with the same category of religious totalitarian killers and tyrants here. The rest is basically details 2/2
One of the original goals of modern terrorism (developed by anarchists of 19th and 20th century) was to use violence as propaganda and to force the pace of historical change. The attacks on Israel show us that this still remains the case - and it works.
People: "Intolerance and racism in the West is vile and must be called out"
*Same* people: "respect the intolerance of the world cup host and if you dont like it you can go back to where you came from"
Champions league final in moscow, Olympics in Beijing. At this point international sporting bodies are having a directly negative impact. Its not just neutral idiocy anymore. Disgraceful
Bin Laden’s letter resonates with a segment of young people because it was most likely ghost-written by Adam Gadahn, a Californian child of hippies who converted to Islam, beat up the imam of his mosque then made his way to Al Qaeda where he became a high level propagandist. 1/n
Sadly also relevant to UK where there is small but growing coordinated effort to impose this activism and intimidation here. See video of the woman begging for forgiveness at the end, it should look familiar to anyone who followed the Wakefield school Koran 'incident' last year.
A Pakistani police officer is being hailed as a hero for negotiating the safe escort of a woman accused of blasphemy by a mob in Lahore. The woman was wearing a dress with Arabic calligraphy that the crowd mistook for verses from the Quran ⤵️
If two months ago you’d told me that Denmark would be passing a revamped blasphemy under which artists can be imprisoned up to 2 years, I’d have said, no way. But here we are…Makes me even more appreciative of living under the protection of the First Amendment.
In countries where people have access to free press, the main story isn't the availability of fake news/extremist propaganda/conspiracy theories/disinformation. It's that people *want* to believe it. More understanding needed on why that is rather than on existence of materials.
Who would have thought that the best way to improve your image after massacring children and raping dead bodies would he to take hostages and then...release them.

Quick question re endless footage we now have of people tearing down posters of kidnapped Jewish kids: of those who have been identified is even one of them a right winger? Seems to be a radical left phenomenon as far as I can tell?
Is there more to the trucker story than the Canadian gov arresting and using terrorism legislation to freeze the bank accounts of protesters? I know many of them have weird conspiracy views on covid but whats the justification for such an authoritarian response? Genuine questions
So frustrating to read, even well intentioned like this, pieces on free speech that don't engage with relative power. Who actually has a platform to speak - and for what purpose do they use it, to challenge or to embed power?
Just real quick - if you're in a serious job and want to be taken seriously are u happy to publicly post footage of you wildin out drunk at a party and the people you work with/work for you can see it? Would you be happy to share it at a job interview? stop trying to sound cool
Not sure if YouTube is letting down its guard a bit, but I'm surprised that Anjem Choudary lectures are still accessible on there, including new ones since he came out of prison for supporting ISIS.

The CEO of Moderna Stephane Bancel admits that he knew in 2019 that his company would make big money because there would be a pandemic and they had already manufactured the ‘vaccine’ in 2019 before the pandemic.
Should add as an example the terrorist murders in Brussels are ISIS linked yet also likely were motivated by the Hamas atrocity. So its not apples and oranges here folks
Great to see this fantastic volume published. Honored we had a chance to contribute and look forward to reading the undoubtedly excellent contributions of my

When trying to objectively identify if an act of violence is terrorism or not, try to leave morality and emotion out of it. And yes, the attacks in Israel are terrorism. They are also repugnant but that's a separate issue.
Currently researching question of mixed or unclear ideologies as drivers of recent acts of violence in EU/USA. Many use "Ecofascism" as evidence of "mixed ideology." But, environmentalism informed Nazi ideology since its inception. Not example of ideological mixing imo 1/2
Just went to Parliament Square & held up a blank piece of paper. Officer came & asked for my details. He confirmed that if I wrote “Not My King” on it, he would arrest me under the Public Order Act because someone might be offended.
Conspiracy theorists (esp anti vaxxers) happy to use evidence from medical journals when it seems to suit their worldview. Spend rest of the time ignoring or attacking findings which dont match the worldview. If they agree, it's good science,if they dont it's the 'powers that be'
On the extreme right: "remainder of the UK domestic terrorist threat is driven almost exclusively by
Extreme Right-Wing Terrorism (ERWT)... amounts to approximately 22% of attacks since 2018, a quarter of MI5 caseload and 28% of those in custody for terrorism-connected offences."
UK jihadist Usman Khan's prison record prior to his release and attack on Fishmonger's Hall. Have to say, it's hard to understand how he was thought to be such a low risk
'The idea that Suella Braverman can say that multiculturalism has failed, when she is a walking, talking exemplar of its success...'

points out the irony of the Home Secretary's comments on multiculturalism.

They've also long been encouraging the vandalising of ULEZ cameras and a few have already been cut down. Some have been done even after they've been replaced
"They" don't want you to know the truth (in this case the belief that there used to be giant humans) and yet "they" keep sharing clues about it all the time. Strange that. I wonder if there's, like, some other explanation

There is nothing at all amazing about this article. It contains no new info or analysis. Worst of all, it opens with yet another diatribe about why he is right and his dead brother is wrong, something which is as boring as it is pathetic. For someone who complains about being...

1. What the hell has happened to Russell Brand? Here’s my column on his terrible political journey, plus a thread on the wider context, that explains what makes his shift so dangerous. 1/
I'm sure these two are horrible and dont even want to know what they said but in the UK we now jail people for sending offensive private texts and I think it's utterly absurd. Justice system here which seems to make decisions based on emotions and media coverage.
