Yes, you are both right, but river heads are in the north. With the melting of the glaciers, the flow of the rivers adds to the heavy rains. That has been the case for Pakistan’s flooding over decades.

@OpenAcademics
Today I signed a contract as a Senior Lecturer in English Linguistics
Earlier this year, I was interviewed at 3 universities, while 2 offered positions. I had to turn another fantastic employment abroad too. 🧿
If you have been on precarious employment, you know what that means
I am thrilled to share that I have received an international mobility grant which I will be using later this month to work in one of the most important European archives of 🇬🇧 colonial documents. I am humbled & excited to learn from my learned colleagues there.
I will share! 🥰

1. The Bengal famine of 1943 caused 3.8 million deaths in the Bengal province.
2. Great Bengal famine of 1770 caused a 3 million as well.
That’s the long term cost of British colonization & the British Raj on South Asian health besides losing ancestors to famine.

After ten years of being rejected for my first article by a leading Journal in my field, I was asked by them to be a reviewer. It was a bittersweet moment but here is my take on it - this might be helpful for PhD students writing their first academic articles.

Thankful to colleagues at

I started using

@AcademicChatter
Any tips for further enhancing its use?

Happy to be alive in this moment, where I am know and who I have become.
Looking at the other side of 51.

One rejection today
Keeping the count here on Twitter since I have my 'submitted' threads here as well. ;)
@AcademicChatter
I will be alright in a day or two, but a good piece of cake is all I need to heal this broke heart. Urm, academic rejection.
I started the day with a heavy memory & reminded myself to snap out of it. My already existing anxiety got company then of a recent rejection. I am being tender with myself today. It’s not always

I don’t want to kill the vibes, but I read some tweets some time ago from people who had dedications (and acknowledgements) of their PhD thesis/ books written to their EX husbands/ wives! Imagine the pain! 😂
My Ammi passed away 3 months ago; for the first time, I went in to meet my neighbourhood forest. I would 📞 her on my walk - the birds, the rabbits, the deers, the plum trees, the apple trees, the soil on my neighbourhood hill - all had become acquainted to her voice, I am sure.

Are you one of those researchers who by the end of submission have two abstracts - one that you submitted, and another one got born out of it? 🙈

Pakistan is a classic case of diglossia - a well known phenomenon in sociolinguistics. A 🧵
Diglossia means that a linguistic community may use two different languages/ dialects for different purposes - often labeled as a H & L variety. For ex, in Pakistani Punjab,
In sports, some loose, some win. But what a joy for some when a Muslim majority country loses a cricket match.
Islamophobia is when you openly connect the cricket team of a Muslim majority country in another region with terrorist organizations.

Upon waiting for my sons to arrive for Eid (we haven’t had the chance in 3 years), I realized we don’t actually say: I love you in Urdu (except for couples), BUT we do say: here are shami kababs & pulao, I made gulab jamuns for you too. And that is ❤️, one way to say it.

I completed my PhD in 2014 and have long been on short term contracts. These temporary positions drain you of energy & block your planning. Research costs money but short term contracts are so depressing & costly that a long term career & life decisions are difficult to make.
