Oh my Goodness! Talk about waking up to good news! We just received notice from the city of Calgary that our charity has received a grant to do a full year of arts programming for seniors around the city! We get to hire artists and grow the creative economy!!!

My parents are refugees who built an impressive life here and worked hard. They have always voted conservative. My mom said “the ucp don’t care about people in our tax bracket. We can’t afford to pay for private health care”. They want affordable utilities and healthcare.
Proud recipient of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal today with a group of great leaders in the non profit sector! Thank you to everyone for always supporting our work and Helping to highlight gaps in policy. Thank you to
@joececiyyc
and
@KathleenGanley
for this recognition!
His response to McLean when he tried to patronize him by saying “one day you’ll want a single family home, you’re gonna change your mind”. And this man responds calmly, no one is taking away single family homes. No one is building only townhouses.
Councillors seem confused by why renters would be speaking? Guess what they pay property taxes for the landlord. They also contribute to the tax base and economy. So yes, policy changes at the city should include impacts on ALL Calgarians not just the few who who their land.
I live in a city where ppl are saying that preserving parking is more important than increasing housing for a person. Let that sink in. Pls tell sharp, Wyness, wong, chabot, McLean, chu, Demong, to prioritize housing for people over spots for cars.

According to him, council should only be listening to the perspective of home owners as all other citizens are *gasp* renters aka drifters. His words not mine.
I’m tired of austerity measures being reversed when there’s an election by the same ppl who made cuts. Im voting for a party I can trust to fund and comprehend importance of health care (incl preventative care),education affordable housing, municipality funding

Great crew today in Chinatown for an important announcement of $1.5 million commitment to develop and revitalize Chinatown as well as important antiracism funding/ commitment to affordable housing in Calgary and introducing health teams with language specific resources!
People shouldn’t have to share humiliating and sad stories in order to be heard. Housing affordability shouldn’t even be a debate. A city’s job is to make sure there’s housing for everyone, so listen to the experts and do the right thing for our city’s future.
#yyccc
We do not need more police. That does not solve the root cause of our society problems. We need safe housing, jobs, harm reduction, affordable child care, affordable medication, accessible and multilingual mental health supports. We need more social workers.

Dear council, I live in ward 8 in elbow park and I volunteer actively in ward 7. I am a born and raised Calgarian that has spent the majority of my adult life trying to make Calgary a more inclusive and vibrant space for everyone. 1/
I’m voting for ndp who recognize & will invest in historic Chinatown that not only serve to add to the diversity of our city but they also are important communities of age friendly living that builds community and health, reducing costs for our health care system.
We are starting our kitchen renovation at good neigjbour! This will become a downtown located commercial kitchen for rent to non profits or social enterprises to prep/cook and also the location of our cooking class series ft immigrant aunties teaching how to make yummy food!
What a fun honour to start 2022 than being on the cover of
@calgaryherald
with 19 other great community members making this city awesome!!

I don’t know how to convince the speakers that just because some people don’t own a home yet, it doesn’t mean they didn’t work hard enough. This whole last 40 seconds really took a turn.
I really appreciate the citizen today who said it seems like some council members r only listening to the concerns of people who are already adequately housed. So many non profits so many citizens all asking for the same thing. Adopt the policy in full. This is the right thing.
Almost 3 years ago we opened good neighbour in a building that was vacant since the bow tower finished. We’ve now opened a non profit health clinic and revitalized the historic firehall courtyard as well! Brick by brick we are doing our part to build a stronger Calgary.
Housing is a human right. Parking is not. Please support the policy that will get more people into homes overtime and respond to the growing housing needs of our population. Setting up our city for success when it comes to affordability begins with upzoning!!
Hi I’m Alice! I am born and raised in calgary and have a huge passion to make this city a better place for people I meet through volunteering! So many new Twitter friends. I Hope to meet you all in person sometime soon!
I am so tired of people being rude and racist at good neighbour because We ask everyone to be masked. Today was emotionally very hard on our volunteers. We are tired of it 😞
Can’t wait to open our community market in this iconic building! We are going to pilot our concept in here for a few months and hopefully collaborate with the city to do something permanent next door next year!

My family members were stoked on this honour cuz it’s rare to see Asian people receiving awards in the public eye. Through the community work and mentorship I am engaging in I am hoping to contribute to a growing generation of visible minority leaders who prioritize giving back.
Last night I was the recipient of the U of A alumni award in recognition of my non profit projects over the past few years! It was a beautiful evening and so inspiring to learn and hear about the career and impact of other honourees on a global/ local level.
@UofA_Arts
@UAlberta
You cannot support the downtown revitalization, environmental goals, walkability, transit, growing our post secondary, funding social service, funding the arts and NOT support affordable housing policy. Where are our frontline workers and artists and students suppose to live?
Talking to junior high students about what they would want Calgary to have in order to make their lives better: better and more accessible transit and more recreation centres!!!!!!
#yyccc
11 year old panelist very simply states why RCG zoning is important and why she supports it. She is raised to help people when she sees someone needing help. The city needs to do the same to help people access housing in order to prevent more folks becoming homeless.
So interesting how the ucp can find a million dollars for a vaccine lottery but make service agencies fight over scraps to fund their programs for vulnerable albertans every day. Leadership rooted in sensationalism instead of common sense.
Let me tell you. Give me a vacant space to revitalize and we can mobilize volunteers to turn it into something cantered around community and dignity. I’m bragging because I’m very proud of what our team has achieved in 3 short weeks!
the type of racist, ageist and misogynistic replies I’ve gotten are spammy and repetitive. These hateful angry ppl are who smith is so proud to represent, rile up. For moderate conservatives i don’t know how you can see this and still support. The party is not what you think.
You can be sure the moment council is elected I will be inviting them all to good neighbour to talk about how we were able to revitalize this portion of downtown in 6 wks. We need leaders that see the need to support initiatives like ours to make it more inclusive.
#yyc
#calgary
The racism and bigotry from some panel members really ruins it for everyone else and paints such an abhorrent picture of what calgary is made of. The fear mongering of "low class" or "Scary" people to lower property values for "hard working" residents is Super F***** UP.
I was nominated as one of cbcs Asian change makers! Read my passion for Calgary in my own words haha. Yes like many of my Twitter friends I am obsessed with this city!!!!!
I really wish we could just adequately fund housing, education and healthcare so that so many albertans can live without fear of paying for food, housing or meds.
ppl ask me to not get political because we are “doing good work”. It’s annoying to be asked to “be seen and not heard”
. Housing and food scarcity is political, I will 100% be advocating for better government in order to help solve the crisis we are in. Louder voices always!
Got the keys to our Pay What You Want community market! So excited to revitalize this corner! It will be a vibrant and inclusive space and room for community events

My partner is heading to Beijing for his 4th olympics! He started as a 7 year old at a ski jump camp at COP right here in Calgary. When the jumps got decommissioned it was very tough. However, group of volunteers are rebuilding jumps elsewhere. Can’t wait!
It is also ward 7 councillor
@DruhFarrell
last meeting. I will never for getting her as she was one of the few female councillors and also one who so staunchly fought for affordable housing and density in the inner city. I couldn’t believe this wasn’t a no brainer for councillors
The silence from the pro Sean chu rally folks to call out racist Jason Kenney is DEAFENING. Sorry sweetie you did their bidding and you still can’t sit with them.
Every day we hear the stories of people struggling with rising rents and the risk of eviction. We're pleased Calgary City Council has moved forward with rezoning plans to reduce the costs and timelines for permit approvals and allow for greater housing variety and options.
#yyccc
McLean “don’t think running on rezoning would be a good platform? Asking for a friend…” This was stopped by the mayor as an inappropriate question to ask a panelist as it does not pertain to zoning. Instead of doing what is right for Calgary he is focused on getting elected.😒
If you are a true fiscal conservative then you will know that investing in affordable housing and mental health actually REDUCES city costs. If you don’t understand that investing in humans to live a healthy life will cost you less than homelessness then please pick up a book.
It’s my bday today! Every year I think about projects I accomplished and am so proud of the fridge, tigerstedt, good neighbour, and flowers for seniors. Projects like these remind me that as a citizen we each have the power to make great things happen if we work together.
I got to visit the incredible and super cute Fraggle Rock set with
@calgaryeconomic
and
@JyotiGondek
- thank you for listening to my plea for the past 3 years 😂 - it was beautiful and so much Calgary talent in the set design, puppeteers, costume. Dream come true I am so happy 😀
This photo was what brought me back to Calgary. 2013 flood pic of my mom in Vic park. I saw
@nenshi
call for volunteers and just knew that I wanted to be apart of building volunteerism and community in my home town. Devastating flood but showed calgarians helpful spirit.
“a fraction of the provincial surplus would not only end homelessness in Edmonton, it would end it across Alberta. If there is political will from the provincial government, almost every person in this province could have a home within a few years.”
In a province as wealthy as Alberta, ending homelessness is not just possible, it’s easy. For more details, check out my latest blog. It also covers the need for proper minimum shelter standards to provide an interim solution.

Thank you, councillor

for providing lots of thoughtful comments and consideration for not only folks in your ward who support rcg, but everybody around the city. This matters and you are once again

and represented Calgarians well. Thank you thank you 🙏
Tomorrow is the soft opening of Good Thrift! Our new fundraiser store so thatwe can fund food and community programs for our neighbours downtown. Come by and shop for a good cause 12-5 at 149 5 avenue SE
Local teacher described the income disparity he sees in his classroom, kids coming hungry, this is a sample of Calgary even in the most affluent neighborhoods. Why would you signal to Calgary that you don’t want them to thrive in your neighbourhood by having nowhere to live?
Our newest tenant is open today! We transformed the old hakim optical building is now 3 different businesses with a Tokyo street market, fish market (opening soon) and Japanese izakaya!
Love this new mural on the side of the good neighbour building painted by Filipinx artists and in collaboration with indigenous and filipino elders! Funded by city of Calgary
My first public hearing experience was waiting through hours of debate on secondary suites. When they changed secondary suites zoning there were the exact same voices speaking against due to “character”. It passed, it DID NOT destroy community character at all
Non profit sector who deals with low income folks from unhoused to working poor: please rezone
Policy Experts on housing; please rezone
Home builders who want to build more housing: please rezone
Home owners who want to do more with their land: please rezone
Please listen
For everyone saying replacing one house with duplex or fourplex is bad, I would rather see it replaced with 4 units for 4 families than a bigger million dollar large home for 1 family.
When I say I’m in love with a fridge it is no understatement - it’s so fun to go and fill it up even in blizzard weather! Thank you to our volunteers who keep it clean even when it’s crummy outside!

When

doesn’t resign it continues to bring up stress and trauma for the victim but also for anyone who has been a survivor of assault and abuse esp from ppl in position of power. It is not fair and corrupts our political systems.
Please share! Accepting donations at our new non profit thrift store this Friday from 1-5pm! It’s been amazing to meet all the downtown residents who are so excited to have a market near their home. Another step towards community building downtown.

We are working on a community pilot in this location to revitalize this corner. Just in time for downtown plan and we can’t wait. Inspired by
@DruhFarrell
tweets a few months ago! Hope to show landlords partnering with community can mean great things for vacant buildings.

A cautionary tale to

from someone who lived through LA and SFO housing crisis. what happens when you wait to implement inclusionary zoning. RCG is the floor not the ceiling. Fail to plan means = plan to fail.
Talking about our experience of opening good neighbour and how to be a good neighbour tonight at the Calgary public library with
@CWalcottYYC
highlights: we will be talking about dignity, care, and systemic solutions
Hi from Bot Alice! I truly wish I was tech savvy enough to auto generate content as that would make my vacation more fun for my friends and also I don’t copy and paste anything. You can tell by the exorbitant number of typos I have in my tweets! To my lurkers, love you so much
Skateboard ramp is being built!!!!! This ramp will be shared with 4-5 non profits who are building community through skateboarding with underrepresented youth!

I love Being able to speak Chinese. It is so important especially being close to Chinatown and opening our store. We have signage in Chinese as well so non Chinese speaking folks can point to it. We had so many happy grandparents come by.
We put some items on the floor today! We may still move things around but we had an accessibility audit today and so far so good for moving through the shop!

I still can’t believe it’s only been 6 weeks since we signed the lease and 4 weeks since we started renovating. I am so appreciative of the volunteers who busted their butts to make this happen for the community. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I’m in awe of the space we have created in
@downtowncalgary
to welcome our neighbours, celebrate community, and give food and clothes to people who need it. Business is good which means more food for everyone.
