In cab cameras will tell the third part of stories most times. This situation could have been a lot worse than it ended up being.
I’ve seen these go many different ways and outcomes much worse.
@johnkonrad
People seem to think that steering these are simple as steering their Honda’s. Reminds me of how some folks think semi-trucks can stop on a dime so therefore they believe it is ok to cut them off in traffic and wonder why collisions with semis are so catastrophic.
An Airbus 380 is on its way across the Atlantic. It flies consistently at 380 mph at 30,000 feet, when suddenly a Eurofighter with a Tempo Mach 2 appears.
The pilot of the fighter jet slows down, flies alongside the Airbus and greets the pilot of the passenger plane by radio:
I remember when this video went viral of a CDL instructor at a CDL school in Texas. This was during COVID when the “shortage” of drivers gained a lot of momentum. This was insanely dangerous and irresponsible on behalf of the school.
The term professional driver becomes diluted
I just read a post that said that “trucking is finally done in America”…..
As in done….
Cmon yall, stop it…
Trucking isn’t going anywhere.
It has cycles.
We came off the highest peak ever during the pandemic. Works just like a pendulum…
Here is a follow up video to my post yesterday where the driver took his hands off the wheel immediately after the truck began to skid. As you can see in the video, maintaining control in the loss of control is important to the safety of ALL parties.
This is the type of
Drivers should NEVER have to be responsible for lumper fees. If a broker/shipper involves a lumper in their unload process, they should prepay or the lumper should be billed to the intermediary. Knock the hustle on someone else’s time, not our drivers.
I will never forget one of my first few direct customers I landed for my trucking company and how it played out.
I was out Christmas tree shopping (back during the pre-artificial days of my life) and I ran up to this guy who was running a stand and I sparked a conversation with
I remember times when certain receivers would say “don’t send that truck again” due to a truck showing up with a bad tarp job like this.
You have to remember that the product on the deck is important to someone and care should always be taken to protect it. As a former
Convoy said that shippers could “choose to work with the carriers that were booked on canceled shipments directly.”
This part should resonate. As a carrier, you ultimately have the asset that is needed. Leverage relationships and build…
If you are an owner-operator/fleet owner that made it through one of the toughest time our industry has seen over the last year plus, I salute you…
Keep going…
Reefer haulers, be careful right now… make sure you are covering your ass with temps. It’s even worth it to upgrade your ELD system to add on temp monitoring, especially if you have a reefer that you have to take to a shop to download temp history.

Taking your hands off the wheel is never a move in the attempt to regain control of any vehicle. During a skid or slide you are trained to steer the wheel back to the center point of the wheel. No way the only error is seatbelt. Forget the fact that having a cell phone in hand is
I’ve listened to several spaces over the past few days and what I will say is that as a business owner, understanding the fact that other businesses do not have to support/carter to you as business owner. You are NOT forced to do business with anyone you don’t want to and it goes

The average truck driver lives 16 years less than a non-truck driver…
Take care of yourselves out there drivers.
Don’t be the idiot in this video….
Sure pal, someone climbed to the very top of that bridge undetected and placed dynamite in multiple sections of it and had the ability to detonate it in the exact moment that a ship that seamlessly lost control made contact with it….

Negative. Not to mention there was no seatbelt involved. Giving up control of an 80,000 lb vehicle at highway speeds put multiple lives in jeopardy. No CMV training suggests that you EVER release vehicular control. I’ve been a trainer for one of the largest trucking companies in
Brokers are real people..
Carriers are real people…
Not all brokers are bad and not all carriers are good.
Not all carriers are bad and not all brokers are good.
Now that we got that situated……
This is one reason why focusing on things outside of what YOU can control with your BUSINESS in this industry will get you in trouble…
A lady approached me because she saw me on socials and wanted to have a conversation about a few trucking topics..
The VERY first thing was
Transportation conferences are in full swing and one thing to be cautious is, while networking and such is important, if you are attending on your own dime, these can easily be a very expensive excursion.
It isn’t uncommon to spend a couple of thousand on travel, event tickets,
Business owners remember this:
You were the one that made the decision to start a business. No one owes you sh**……
Stop looking for handouts, bailouts, regulations and such.
Someone made it happen without that stuff.
You can too….
Growing up in the Deep South, this was common for all processions. We were taught that if there is a funeral procession, you stop and allow the procession to pass completely. It was a sign of respect for the family. You don’t see it much at all anymore….
While shooting video of the procession of Investigator Poloche, I noticed that incoming Independence Blvd traffic had stopped for the procession. Zooming in, I realized people stopped on their own to pay respect. So much respect. Proud of Charlotte.

The fact that I drove a truck all those years, and experienced all I experienced is not what made me a great business owner…
What did however, was my relentless commitment to get BETTER at what I wasn’t innately good at. Some wont want to hear this but you weren’t born being a
I bought a 2022 Yukon Denali XL last year and it doesn’t even have 30,000 miles on it but it’s burning oil?

I just had the most amazing conversation with an IRS agent just now in regards to an entity update.
It started off how you can imagine but I changed the whole direction of the call by saying one thing….

In 2006, I stepped out and leased/purchased this truck brand new. I was green to the BUSINESS side of trucking. No real knowledge on KPIs, lanes, etc. The truck payment was $900 a week, and about a year into we hit a freight recession…🧵
Proud of my brother who last week secured a direct customer using the power of networking. He will be pulling recyclables 100 miles round trip, 3xs a day. Home every single night and grossing about $1,000 a day.
Focus on your business and the results come…

2 if you read the manual on anti skid on new vehicles they tell you to let go of the wheel in skids because it will correct itself and if you’re counter steering and it’s trying to correct itself just causes more issues
Saw this posted the other day and thought it was an interesting share.
From experience, I can concur with a lot of these. Truck parking continues to be an issue whereas it’s not only about providing a place to park but most importantly, a SAFE place to park..
Imagine an autonomous semi-truck doing this with 45,000 pounds of freight on it. That roadway would part like the Red Sea
This technology has a ways to go…
It’s so weird how much of a problem it is to a shipper/broker when a truck is late but when the unload process goes past reasonable time, crickets…..
Have that same energy when you detain a truck as you have when a truck is late…
Roughly 15% of freight that moves in the US is on the spot…..
Fifteen….
Don’t focus 100% of your efforts as a carrier on the small market of opportunity.
Own your backyard and seek opportunities there
The amount of “bridge experts” and “infrastructure gurus” popping up today on the TL to capitalize on engagement due to a tragedy is sickening. I’ve seen a post a few minutes ago talking about how poor the design of the bridge was and blah, blah blah….

The toughest driving job I ever had was for McLane Foodservice 🧵. Foodservice driving jobs are like working two jobs at once. I ran a 100-400 route (meant weekends off) most of the time but sometimes I got stuck with a 300-600 (worked the weekends)
There are a good amount of O/Os and small fleet owners surviving through the current state of the market, and for good reason. One of those reasons is pretty common🧵
They were around pre-pandemic and purchased assets before the boom.

Late fall for a few years as a fleet owner, I had this direct tree farm client that we shipped Christmas trees for. When you go to decorate your tree, know it wasn’t easy getting it to you
Long load times (hand), multi-stop and slow unload (hand).
Good stuff, trucks bring it
This is the way to do it. Every person that operates in this space as an intermediary, should spend a week out on the road with a driver. Hats off
@Truckparkingguy
for what you did.
The end of the road…
It’s been an incredible 8 days on the road with
@indietrucker
and I’m thankful he let me join him.
We loaded and delivered several loads between Vegas and Charlotte, NC and I got to experience the amazing views of Wyoming and the lack of truck parking
I’m so glad this was brought up on the show. This is a REAL issue that is silently gaining a lot of traction in a negative way. There are some many flaws in some systems and it is putting the good guys in a bad spot..
I remember back in 2004, I joined a mega carrier as an owner/operator and they had a mandatory 3 day orientation.
It was really like a 3 day business academy on how to manage the basics as an owner operator.
The most unfortunate thing was that in a class of 30 drivers,
There are exceptions in the niches. If you focus more on the path less traveled and acquire what you need, you create your own market. We know folks that gross over $300,000 each year in AA&E.
Thanks for having me on
@TimothyDooner
! One of the things that new authorities can bank on is that in the current climate (and perhaps near future) things are going to be different. Due to the massive amount of freight fraud, changes have been made and the FMCSA has also vowed
New drivers / authorities are having it bad trying to get loads in a loose market with tightening fraud controls that filter them out
We asked
@adamlwingfield
how new truckers can still participate

Get your point but slightly misleading as each of the bars represent a full year for JBH vs the last two which represent quarters. 2021-22 was an anomaly for the entire industry.
One of the cool things I saw at Manifest was how leveraging AI will eventually help eliminate wait times at the guard shack.
Truck pulls up, AI reads the truck and trailer info. Matches it to inbound load or outbound shipment. Assigns a door (or ETA for door then assigns parking

Too much fake going around…
You don’t “delve”. You’ve never used that word before.. (AI dead giveaway)
A lot of truck owners don’t receive the proper knowledge and/or training before starting a trucking company. Just because you can drive a truck doesn’t mean you can run a company. Get the knowledge and insight first..
Love catching up with clients in real life. Amazing that with the amount of students I have, I have only met maybe a small, small handful in real life. The impact of technology is wide but nothing like being able to sit down and shake hands with the lives I get to be a part of 💪🏾
I like the visibility in this chart. As you can see, overall supply of trucks is abnormally high. This drives the service “value” of your truck down (rate) due to the availability. The more trucks to choose from, the lower the price on spot rates if demand isn’t there. Period
As a business owner, December is decision time. I'm reshaping partnerships with one goal: reciprocal growth, especially for small carriers. If a collab isn't lifting us both, particularly our backbone small carriers, it's out for 2024. Time for mutual gains, not one-sided deals.
Looking forward to jumping into the F3 mix. Busy week but it’s important to be intentional in making a difference! One day, would love to see an abundance of carriers take the opportunity to network and learn from the best minds in the business
One driver joins live on air and quotes a percentage out of the air. There is no facts, evidence or really anything behind her reasoning…
This is stupid….
10% of what number???
You mean of active motor carriers?
Or active trucks on the highway??
They give people with a mic
JUST IN: Female trucker joins NYC trucking boycott to protest Judge Engoron's ruling against Trump, says if 10% of truckers join the movement, it could cripple NYC.

Pull the manual on a Freightliner Cascadia where it tells you to let go of the wheel….. there is no anti skid auto correct system on an 80,000 lb semi truck… there is NEVER an instance on a vehicle during an emergency event that you are to remove your hands from the steering
My broker family out there…
Stop posting loads from cities that are actually picking up more than an hour away or more, only to disclose later which wastes everyone’s time.
If the load picks up in Atlanta…post it for ATLANTA and not Macon…. Big difference…
There is a VERY distinct difference between the thought process of a driver vs. that of a business owner.
As a business owner, you have to make decisions best for the business. Sometimes they aren’t fun, but necessary.
I called Bank of America yesterday and at the end of the call they said “thank you for being a customer of 27 years”…
I said “wait….what??”….
She confirmed the date I opened my first account.
Time flies.
Live life to the fullest.
To this day the most disturbing thing that I come across in this industry is the amount of company owners large and small that don’t have an idea on cost of operating a truck (s). The single truck owners concern me the most because everything is on the line with one truck.
Just saw a post go viral of a guy blaming the shift in market conditions on “nobody but brokers”…..
There is a serious misinformation going on out here..
There are good guys and bad guys on both sides but once you understand market conditions you understand pricing leverage.
I love a great debate and difference of opinions! However, when you are disrespectful that line is one you can’t backtrack on. The beauty about growth as a person is that now I just use the block button. I give those out free. The old me was VERY different!!
Shout out to growth!
One of the key skills an owner operator can have is the ability to negotiate.
Negotiation is a skill and some are better at it than others. Those owner operators that are better at it, fair out better overall in this business.

🟢We all negotiate on a daily basis. On a personal level, we negotiate with friends, family, landlords, car sellers and employers, among others.

If there was one thing that you wanted the broker world to fix (outside of rates) what would it be? Gonna post these during a panel discussion….
You pay for the cost it takes to acquire someone’s expertise to fix a problem and not the time it took them to fix it.
It takes years to make things look easy..
Plumber just charged me $800 to replace my water pressure regulator.
Took him 20 minutes and I just looked up the price of the part and it’s $155.
I paid the price because mine was leaking, he was in my house and I am extremely lazy but c’mon man that’s pretty egregious.
Per the article:
“The companies say they can help address a truck driver shortage, estimated by the trucking industry to be 64,000 drivers.”
If they are using the same research methodology to configure use case and tech for these as the methodology they are using to come to the
Flipping the coin on this one. I saw this posted in a group and it reminds you of why broker/carrier relations are where they are…
The broker agent replies to a carrier offer…
The carrier counters to the broker offer. (Negotiation 101)
Broker agent responds with “Silly”…..
I met the absolute nicest person in the airport while waiting on food. She sparked a conversation and asked what I did. Come to find out she was a senior executive for Targus and wanted to gift me with a travel bag from them.
