I see a general perception building here that
#MukundanUnniAssociates
was a box office failure.
It’s not.
The producer made profit, the film just didn’t become this “HUGE” box office hit, thats all. It did decent business overall. Nobody lost money. 😊
#Jailer
was a fun watch, except for the crying kid in the hall. It is irresponsible for any parent to bring their toddler to a movie hall. Kids cry & you cannot blame them for it, but parents have a choice to not be selfish & ruin the experience of hundreds of people in a hall.
I re-watched
#Jailer
in theatres only for that climax Mohanlal scene with trucks. That was the epitome of PEAK MASS, and I think no other mass film will be able to create any impact on me in the near future (for a few months at least).
As someone who had to wait for 5 years to get my first film made, I know for a fact that, this is the worst situation any filmmaker can be in. I simply cannot imagine what he must be undergoing. Hope things get resolved & the film releases soon.
PVR being PVR (as always).
I now realise that my 10 years in Chennai, watching films in Satyam Cinemas when it was owned by them was pure PRIVILEGE. Will never get that experience in life again.. ever.
The worst experience I’ve had with a movie theatre. Palazzo imax cancelled their screening of Oppenheimer after an hour’s delay. If you don’t have the technicians to fix an imax screen, you shouldn’t be running one in the first place

is such a kick-ass entertainer. The perfect kind of film to kickstart your theatre visits. Please watch this film in theatres. It's super fun!!!!!

on a PVR screen that had faulty Front Left & Right speakers. Only the centre (dialogue) channel worked. The RR was completely muffled. PVR is becoming like a government organisation. They know we have no option, so they don’t even care to do basic maintenance.
For the past couple of years, I had completely lost interest in the
#Oscars
due to their political pandering. But this year, the academy takes a full U turn and recognises genuine talent instead. The Oscars are officially back, baby! 🔥🧘
The failure of a super entertaining spy action film like
#MissionImpossible7
at the box office due to the
#Barbenheimmer
effect just reinforces the importance of clever marketing for films today.
I take a lot of time in writing a film, thus the delay. It takes me months to even arrive on the right subject. My announcement will take time. I honestly don’t have the ability to make films quickly. Thanks anyway. 😊
So happy to hear glowing reviews for

I can’t help myself not asking this question
Why
#MukundanUnni
didn’t become a successful person early in his 20s itself ? With that much crookedness and cunning intellect!! what made him slow ?

twice and the second time was even better. Now I feel like watching it again! Never felt this excitement for any Mass film in recent times.
The film did exceedingly well in cities, but underperformed in smaller centres and Malabar areas. The distribution lacked the hold to get proper theatrical support and the offline promotions were terrible. People in smaller centres didn’t even know such a film existed.
I know I don’t need to speak about this publicly, but it gets annoying after a point when people call your film a failure when ITS NOT. There were distribution issues which resulted in the underperformance.
#Thankam
was such a rewarding watch. It’s a beautifully written, edited & directed film with some fine performances from Girish Kulkarni, VS, Biju Menon, Vineeth Thattil David & Aparna Balamurali.
What is the use of a censor certificate if kids are allowed to watch an ADULTS ONLY film featuring graphic violence? Neither the parents, nor the theatre management are bothered. I feel sad for the kids. They may very well rate the same film “U” and it would make zero difference.
In a time when almost every film feels calculated, it’s such a relief to watch something that feels so organic and individualistic. Loved every second of Sriram Raghavan’s

The more I think about

, the more I love it and feel the urge to watch it again.
The more I think of

, the more it reminds me of

(2016).
I wasn’t excited about
#Oppenheimer
until I realised its a character study - my favourite film genre. People today have the tendency to limit the big screen experience to mere VFX driven spectacles, but I firmly believe that character dramas are best viewed in theatres.
The last time I couldn't take my eyes off the screen during a 3 hour film was while watching

only reiterates the fact that if there's one editor in Malayalam industry who can carry a 3 hour film with elan, it's Ranjettan.
I am envious of writers who can pen a really good script in a week or a month. Only genuinely talented people can do that. And talent, unlike skill, cannot be developed by working hard. It’s inborn.
Even I am a father. And I have decided to not take my child to a theatre until she turns 4. Please be a responsible social being. The theatre is not your home. 🙏

I don't think there is a need for a sequel. Since the theme of the film is known, it will be difficult to do a sequel with the same idea. In first part no body expected such a dark theme, it was surprising. Now it will be difficult.
I watched
#Bhediya
in theatres and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have no clue why it didn’t do huge business. The film should have been ideally a super hit. Theatrical business is extremely confusing these days!

It’s a film that the audience today would easily dismiss as “OTT Material”, but I cannot imagine watching
#12thFail
anywhere other than the theatres. Films, regardless of scale, should be experienced on the big screen.
This is a rare rooted drama that deserves a big screen experience mainly because of the impactful dialogues and the claps, whistles & tears that follow...
But still, before the year ends, make sure you catch it on OTT. Quite a few "best of the year" lists will see a revision
The Sathyam Cinemas’ trademark cream donut PVR sells in Bengaluru is not the original recipe. I had to cut down a huge chunk of maida to get to the cream and the cream wasn’t even close to what they serve at the Chennai Sathyam outlets. Speak of ruining an iconic legacy!
Already HIT ആണ്. Considering the low profile distribution & offline publicity, the film is doing exceedingly well in major centers, with houseful shows on weekends & almost full shows on weekdays. The word of mouth is strong & there is steady footfall.

Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the film. The producer made profit, the film just didn’t become this huge box office hit, thats all. Waiting for your video, if you are planning to put out one. ❤️

I think they didn't submit the movies for the award. When the jury invites the potential movies the producer or director has to submit their movies to consider and then the jury watches it and decides.
I think Mukundan Unni was not even submitted for the award.
#12thFail
is hands down the BEST Hindi film in YEARS! There is so much thought gone into its writing, and the filmmaking is so confident & mature that it made me jealous. This is a MUST WATCH in theatres & easily my most favourite Indian film of the year!
#Ayalaan
is gearing up for grand release tomorrow.
Amazing how
@Siva_Kartikeyan
shouldered this film for so long, ensuring it comes out as planned.
He didn’t take any remuneration 👏
Biggest, longest project of his career
Finally, he promoted the film aggressively 👍
@baesuffer
I disagree. I don't think audience owe any such theatre watch to any movies. Everyone is going about their lives and its not their job to seek and reward good movies. Its the producers and distributors job to attract viewers to theatre by doing effective promotion.
