Feeling jetlagged but it's been invigorating so far! The intro sessions by @KaliTessera and @kbeguir were intense and invigorating as well. Hopefully, a much more refreshed me would be enjoying Indaba in its full flow tomorrow. #DLIndaba2022 @DeepIndaba

Collaborate with others in the ML community by contributing to open-source projects or working on group projects. I did this by leveraging communities like @ml_collective , @MasakhaneNLP , & @forai_ml . This allows you to learn from others & gain exposure to different perspectives.

It was @SuchakKrupa and I at the 2nd session of the #runconference 🏃‍♂️ at @DeepIndaba 2022. More of a light run, spiced with the quite relaxing view of the beautiful Mediterranean sunrise in Tunis.🤗 #DLIndaba2022

In case this blows up, we're currently trying to raise money for a couple of our local AI students to attend the Indaba in Accra in ~10 days. We have around ¼th of the bills left to raise. Consider donating or retweeting, at the least. A $1 donation goes a long way. Thank you🙏🏾

Just learned from the Array Algebra class @DeepIndaba that the Physics-originated word "tensor" is used wrongly in deep learning. Fascinating, that! Couple of other hot takes too, for example, counting from 1 as opposed counting from 0. Thank you, @taliesinb 👏🏾 #DLIndaba2022

I finally got that 2022 year-in-review article out of the way.😴 It took me about 2 weeks to write it bit by bit - a testament of how lazy (and maybe more careful) I'd become at certain activities.

Hey folks, The tutorial contains soft, baby steps into web scraping, using the DSN's Bootcamp Attendees' page for the experiment. 🌝 Read and enjoy. 🥰 You may also share it with others who might be interested in web scraping too.

Remember, ML research is a journey, not a destination. It takes time, effort, and dedication, but you'll have a lasting impact on the field with hard work. So, let's get started!🚀 I plan to write more pieces on each of the steps I highlighted (and more), so stay tuned!

Indaba is not just an event. Indaba plays a vital role in shaping the research careers of these students. It is unfortunate that the travel expenses can create a hurdle for their attendance. Attached is a document containing their profiles for your review.

How many of your friends & acquaintances gave up on coding because they don't have a PC? I've lost count. I just published an article explaining how to install & use Jupyter notebooks on phones. Coding Made Easy: Use Jupyter Notebooks on Smartphones.

Deep in my frustration mire, I've been writing all night and I just can't sleep. Writing is a means of catharsis, for me. The article contains excerpts from my diary, my wins, losses & struggles, & my bromance with @dev_careers , @DataScienceNIG etc

I don't know the guy that said that Data Science is the sexiest job of the 21st century, but I definitely know that Data gathering and Data cleaning are the unsexiest tasks of the 21st century, 😒 and those makeup over 50% of a Data Scientist's workload. 🤕

Writing their first draft a few days or weeks before the deadline: It's more of a marathon. Begin early, allowing ample time for multiple revisions and better clarity as you keep reading about your intended research focus. Aim for your first draft two months before the deadline.

This year's high number of acceptances is a ripple effect of our success stories from last year. 3 from our group won the Ideathon at Indaba, with 1 receiving mentorship from Google Research. 2 co-organize workshops at this year's Indaba; 1 nearly became a C4AI research scholar.

Focusing on negativities as highlights (URMs, esp.); Refrain from negatively portraying your school, country's education system, a professor's grading system, or environment. If you can't find a way to spin it positively, it probably shouldn't be a highlight of your statement.

Focusing too much on their challenges (URMs, esp.); Avoid a pity narrative. While challenges should be acknowledged, don't make your inability to afford a laptop the focus. Emphasize your research experiences and personal growth, and slide in how hurdles have shaped your journey
