“Today’s Ukraine maybe East Asia tomorrow” said PM Kishida at the U.S. Congress.
That’s why the international community needs to maintain free and open international order based on rule of law.
What a beautiful concert it was.
The ambassador’s speech was phenomenal. Indeed, freedom is as universal as music. One correction though, Poland is GREAT at football. Remember 2018 WC 🇵🇱1-0🇯🇵
Wonderful concert by Ernán López-Nussa Lekszycki at the Ambassador's Residence!
The audience was truly mesmerized by the spontaneous and lively performance.
Today I had the privilege of welcoming young Asian American journalists

Another sign of spring in DC. Bamboo shoots! In Japanese, we call it タケノコ,literally meaning “bamboo kids”. And we obviously eat them, pretty sure you’ve seen it on a bowl of ramen 🍜
17th of July in Japan is a national holiday called “海の日” Umi no Hi or day of the Sea. Japan is consisted of 14,125 islands. We are the only country to have national holiday to celebrate the sea.
Right Here 🌸 On March 27th, 1912, history was made as the very first cherry blossom tree was planted here by First Lady Helen Taft and Mrs. Chida, the ambassador's wife at the time. The cherry blossom symbolises the fleeting nature of life, blooming for just two weeks each year.

I was stupid enough to leave my keys at the Whole Foods. My heart almost stopped. Guess what, they kept it for me 😳
I LOVE YOU WHOLE FOODS. I will forever keep buying your bougie overpriced groceries ❤️❤️❤️

Context: the phrase is Kyushu manzai superstar Hanamaru Daikichi's well-known joke. In manzai, a Japanese form of standup, one says something insane and the other scolds/corrects him. Inappropriate from the mayor, but we need comedy.

One year ago today, Prime Minister Abe was assassinated. The following day was probably the busiest day of my Washington life. Our phones kept ringing, so many American friends visited us to pay tribute, including President Biden. Thank you again and rest in peace.

June is a rainy season in Japan. It’s rainy everyday and unbelievably humid. There’s no good-hair day. But it is an essential season for rice cultivation, it helps us produce the world’s finest best rice in Autumn. Btw, Hydrangea is native to Japan (I just found this out💮)
