VICTORY✊❤️After 74 hours of continuous protest at Barney Rivers 1440 Lawrence W property management office the demands to let Carmen access her unit and get her keys have been met.
Carmen's case goes to the LTB this week and the fight continues. STRONGER TOGETHER✊❤️🔥
BREAKING: More than a hundred tenants at 1440-1442 Lawrence Ave W will begin Rent Strike tomorrow, joining largest Rent Strike in Toronto’s history.
Join us at Keele & Lawrence Ave W Sunday at 2pm to show solidarity!

Yesterday 100+ tenants at 1440/1442 Lawrence Avenue West began withholding their rent, joining hundreds of striking tenants at 33 King St and 22 John St, making it the largest rent strike in Toronto's history...
33 King Street RENT STRIKE started today!
Hundreds of tenants are withholding rent from their landlord Dream, who has been increasing rents 3 times higher than rent control.
Even during the pandemic rent freeze in 2021, Dream increased rents by 3% in the building
Last night
@MayorOliviaChow
met with a packed room of tenants on rent strike at 33 King St and 22 John St, after Dream Unlimited refused her invitation to come to the table, opting instead to pursue hundreds of evictions.
Despite Barney River’s ruthless lies to kick our neighbour out of her home, & thanks to the solidarity of her neighbours & community, Carm’s door is back up & she is sleeping in her own bed tonight!
BUT the sit-in at the office continues until they return her keys, as promised.
Good news from 1440-1442 Lawrence!
Last year Barney River didn’t tell any tenant union members about an AGI hearing, and the LTB refused to hear from us about it.
Today we took them to divisional court and WON!
Our fight continues on the streets, in our homes & in the courts!
We’re getting a lot of people reaching out asking about how to organize a tenant union in their building & community.
We’ve got your back.
Register for our training series on Building Tenant Power for a step by step guide on tenant organizing!
✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼
To mark the beginning of the THIRD MONTH of the rent strike at 33 King & 22 John, tenants returned hundreds of eviction notices to their landlord Dream Unlimited today and issued Dream Unlimited a notice of their own: the rent strike continues… 🧵
Clear as day:
Barney River promises NOT to evict our neighbour, backed by
@TorontoPolice
if she pays.
When she went down to pay she was told she was homeless.
📣Tell the LTB they need to stay this illegal eviction 📣

"But supply & demand..."
"basic economics..."
"econ 101, everyone, if we build more, rents are going to go down..."
Has 11% vacancy rate reduced commercial rents?
No, which is why supply advocates will never solve the housing crisis.
A steadily high vacancy rate isn’t leading to lower listing prices for office space in Toronto, according to a snapshot of office and industrial space across Canada from Colliers International.
We continue the occupation of the office at 1440 Lawrence Avenue West. The owner of the building Aziz Manji gave his word to the tenant over the phone. Now they are calling the police.
This is the brutal reality that tenants have to live through in Toronto today.
Breaking! 22 John St. tenants join their neighbours at 33 King St in rent strike against corporate landlord Dream
33 King tenants have been on strike since June 1st against rent increases 3 times higher than the guideline

Hundreds of tenants on rent strike at 33 King and 22 John st met last night to pledge the continuation of the rent strike.
Dream may be hoping that this rent strike will go away at the LTB, but tenants are committed to continue the fight

If

Neighbours on Rent Strike at 33 King, 22 John, 1440 & 1442 Lawrence rallied outside Dream Unlimited & Barney River Investments who have refused to negotiate.
