The vehicle is out! Still some water to pump out of the hole before crews can begin the repairs to the water main. Long day and a long night of repairs ahead.
Crews continue the emergency water main repairs in Silver Spring. The damaged piece of 36-inch in diameter pipe has been cut and taken out to prepare for a new section of pipe. Not an easy job, but crews are making progress. Still several hours until final repairs are complete.
Digging continues on Clopper Rd to expose the broken 24” pipe and determine what type of repair is needed. There is no quick fix when it comes to this type of large, buried infrastructure. Water station til 10 pm at Clopper Mill Elem School. Thx 4 ur patience.

Did you know we maintain more than 5,800 miles of water mains across Montgomery & Prince George’s counties? 40% of them are 50 years or older! Replacing just 1 mile of pipe costs about $1.4 million. We must invest in water infrastructure.

Clopper Rd Update: Noon today is when we estimate water service being restored. We appreciate your patience as we work as quickly as possible to wrap up repairs and get the water back on.
Our crews continue making extraordinary progress repairing record numbers of water main breaks & leaks. Down to 61 on this last day of 2022. We currently have 3 breaks and 58 leaks. Be safe out there!
Don’t flush those wipes! We’re seeing many more coming down our sewer system. They are bad for our pipes and yours. They can clog your sewer pipes and can cause you to have to deal with a sewer backup. Don’t take that chance.
On the job 24/7/365 for our customers. Repairs to this 10” water main in Germantown were swift. Merry Christmas and be safe... from our front line workers to you.
Keep those wipes out of the pipes! Check out what our crews recently pulled out of a sewer pipe. Flush only the 3 Ps, Pee, Poop & toilet Paper. Anything else, even the “flushable” wipes clog pipes & can cause a sewer backup in your house.
We are working as quickly as possible to close valves and stop the flow of water on Rockville Pike... updates to come on pipe size and impacted customers.
