Amari Cooper winning on a Sluggo
One of the most common ways to win a slant versus head up and/or inside press, is with the diamond release.
Coop works diamond release to the slant, prior to exiting vertically.

Two great reps from the Ravens wideouts last night
Zay Flowers running a hinge route:
-aggressive body language, "RUN"
-runs through his rocker to get into corner's blind spot
-sudden hip drop
Rashod Bateman triple move (Sluggo comeback)
-aggressive body language
-runs throughβ¦
Been playing around with some YAC drills
Grateful to have a group of kids who are willing to try new drills and provide their feedback.
They enjoyed this one:
1) Hitch
2) Any 1 of the 4 defenders can drive on the route after the catch
3) Wideout has to beat DB to the hash
Single, Double, Triple
Drop, Hesi, Stretch, Slide
No matter what, there has to be a suddenness to finish the jabs.
No matter what, there has to be hip displacement. Feel the weight shift from hip to hip. Threaten the edge of his framework.
Foot. Hip. Shoulder. Head. Real Arms.
Do you notice his head snap back slightly at the catch point? This is because the ball is above his head level. Should his eyes remain level, heβll lose sight of it.
String from nose to ball.
Keenan Allen Slant Cut-Up
Few things to note:
-Master of changing tempo; "tempo to twitch"
-Eats up space when cover defender provides it
-Leaves space to avoid collision at top
-Snaps his pressure steps when cover defender hipped
Elite of the elite in regard to route running.
Opposite release w/ defender on low hip at break = tell him opposite.
Garrett Wilson works a rocker here at the top to move the corner away from the route leverage.
Head and shoulder are equally as important as the two consecutive pressure steps; especially when we're workingβ¦
We were talking split releases and someone brought up a question regarding hard press this past Thursday night.
βMake his 2-hand jam become a 1-hand jamβ
Every time you hear Davante talk about releases, he talks about having a plan.
We have to have some idea of what we are going to do once the ball is snapped.
The elite separate themselves in how effectively they react to what the DB presents post-snap.
Youβre telling on yourself if youβre concerned about the cover defenderβs technique.
You can learn a whole lot from just watching Jerry here, regardless of the cover defender:

Breakpoint Series
Everything stemming from red light green light
1) Red Light Green Light (not shown)
2) 180 hold
3) 180 drive
4) 45
5) 90
Regress the breakpoint from the vertical curl & watch guys run through the 45s & 90s.
Some whip/return work this AM. Good mix of vets and pups. Better every rep.
The rotation in the break realistically translates to any hard break/break that requires a drop.
Run, drop, rotate, drive.
No music needed, just the rhythm of the break.
Slant / Sluggo day for the college guys, so we did this hard break circuit as an extension of the warm-up:
1) Short Drop to 45
2) 45 w/ approach
3) Live Top 45
You can hear an efficient breakpoint; donβt even need to see it.
Double move commandments:
1) Run the first route first
2) Get eyes to the QB on first route
3) Slow the game down π§
4) Patience is king π
5a) Shots = drive out prior to tracking
5b) Eyes to sky when tracking (not QB)
*Reception area of first move dictates if we need π to QB.
Pullback Game
A staple here; we finish most sessions with it. Split into teams, and compete.
Works a ton of things:
High Point β
Pullback β
Late Hands β
Contested Catch β
Back Shoulder β
Diamond Release Cut-Ups
Separation tool used to win on slants versus press, typically versus head up to inside leverage
In the simplest terms, we essentially want to run a vertical/go with an outside release until our cover defender flips his hips

Alright, the wedding could not have been better. Surrounded by incredible people, married my best friend.
Back to work now, missed the kids, missed watching Odell destroy cover defenders in 2016.
I have accepted a position at Oceanside High School as an assistant coach.
I can't wait to work with such an incredible program; alongside one of the best in
@Coach_Blount
& the staff.
I am beyond grateful for the time spent with
@PlainedgeFootb1
& the staff there.
Larry Fitzgerald college practice film.
Made those plays on Sundays because consistently made them throughout the week, for years.
They become the norm over time.
Dig v Off Inside
Guys are attacking directly at the cover defender:
Should he lift, we stay on the path and roll.
Should he match laterally, we "stab" or pressure step back vertical (ATTACK) to get him to chase before sudden drop to initiate break. Arm is latched = throwby; ifβ¦
