There are a few inaccuracies in this thread. To note the most immediate: blue slips are not anonymous. They allow home state senators to signal their consent to allowing a judicial nominee to get a hearing. When a senator blocks a nominee, the committee knows who they are.

The "deal" allegedly, is for McConnell to stop blocking Biden's lower court appointments. But how is he blocking them when he's in the minority? Good question, glad you asked. He's using the "blue slip" process which allows Senators to anonymously block nominees in their states.

I’ve written on this before, but a disproportionate number of judges appointed under the age of 45 tend to leave the bench early. Hazel’s resignation, along with Feinerman’s, Costa’s, and Kallon’s means that a number of “young” Obama appointees aren’t sticking around.

District of Maryland Judge George Hazel—appointed in 2014 and only 47 years old—is leaving the bench in February. His resignation will create a second vacancy on the 10-member court, to which President Biden has already appointed three judges.
