Convinced my mom to take me to see The Wolf of Wall Street in theatres when I was 14 because it was rated A and I thought having an adult with me would help me look like one too
The car ride home was the longest silence I've ever shared with her, iconic parent-child moment imo
🚨 OTT platform Ullu's founder Vibhu Agarwal to soon launch another streaming platform called Hari Om, which will focus on mythological/religious content.
Off late, have heard so many stories of people getting married/betrothed quickly & then breaking it off due to some kalesh, personally heard many scary stories of men mistreating women
24-28 feels like an age where people, esp women, feel pressured to make a commitment (1/n)
16 years sober. Broke away from the 'trailer trash' tag. Became a better person for his family.
Not Afraid was the first hip hop song I heard ~14 years ago and it made me feel like I could also dare to dream for more in life.
Seeing Eminem's growth feels like a personal W 🥹
these photos of Eminem at Hailie’s wedding are so powerful to me because they show that he broke the cycle.
he grew up with nothing, surrounded by drugs and violence, and he has said for decades that having Hailie inspired him to create a different life with her.
they did it.
Hey folks!
@ParvathiNair96
and I are looking for a third female flatmate for our house in Indiranagar (12th main) as
@_kanakvi
moves to newer pastures. You can find complete details of the house & rent here ✨:
Guaranteed shenanigans + lots of sunlight!
When Sylvia Plath said "What horrifies me most is the idea of being useless: well-educated, brilliantly promising, and fading out into an indifferent middle age." I felt that
to find someone truly worth their time, to not feel pressured by these arbitrary timelines, to become financially independent
But when this mentality has been embossed in your mind by your family and peer circles since you were a kid, what can you really do? (4/n)
Excel is the most important toxic entanglement of my life. If I don't do modelling for a while, I start missing it. Countless hours in, I can't help but loathe it. When it's complete, it's magical. Sometimes I just open my own old models and stare. I need better hobbies...
remarriage rates are significantly higher for men as they're able to go to tier 3+ towns or rural areas to get wives and offer a lifestyle upgrade
Divorced women deal with a lot more stigma and shame in comparison
I desperately want to tell these women to wait (3/n)
because of peer pressure or faulty views about their self worth and identity
While it's great that divorce is getting more normalised because it allows women to practice their agency, it comes with trauma
Also heard from a sociology researcher that post divorce (2/n)
Inside Out 1 & 2 should be watched by 15-30 year olds, it's the most digestible content on how our emotions work and their role in our life
Specifically men might benefit from it because I feel their resistance to therapy is higher than women due to norms of toxic masculinity
Convinced that Scorsese is making his content longer to counteract the dopamine imbalance due to the 30 seconds-and-swipe phenomenon of reels/shorts/tiktok
Man's fightin' the system
I watched Game of Thrones for the first time and realized it would have been better to watch it when it was part of the cultural zeitgeist. Going through the disappointment of seasons 7 and 8 alone, without memes or online discourse, feels horrible
Came to visit my family for sometime in Delhi and despite living in Bangalore for 3+ years, the night before the flight back is still the toughest. While living on my own is liberating, the psychological safety of being around family remains unmatched.
My brother's passion for discrete math often results in him sharing a mind blowing philosophical take on it
Today's homework for me (to make sense of what he said): Godel's incompleteness theorem might suggest the existence of God?
Sure the English commentary is nice, sophisticated and analytical but I'm the Hindi commentary they said that stoves are going to be off because no one's cooking tonight as the match has picked up and I think that's beautiful
You know that time when you start working a new job/change professions and you can see these steep initial growth phases as you pick apart what kind of a person would succeed here? What a phenomenal feeling. It's like you're seeing yourself shapeshift into a new you in real time.
Just me out here looking to start an uprising about The Gangs of Wasseypur duology not getting the same respect as global gangster cult classics like Godfather, Goodfellas, Usual Suspects etc.
spot on casting, razor sharp dialogues, fluid narration, historical context 🤌
"Ramayana : The Legend of Prince Rama", an indian-japanese animated feature film produced 30 years ago, and now remastered in HD. Directed by Ram Mohan, Yugo Sako & Koichi Sasaki, with many animators who worked at Ghibli.

In honour of Anthony Bourdains birthday yest, one of my favourite quotes by him:
"Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund."
Life's a lot more fun as an amusement park vs a temple :)
Worked out of a cafe with a friend today and I am a convert.
When you're in a regular job, you forget the value of seeing other faces while still doing your own thing.
Learning how to be a good person instead of a nice person.
All I wanted up till now was to be nice because it felt like the right way to uphold the social contract. Have realised being nice is more linked to being 'liked' by others and blurs into people pleasing very quickly.
Natalie Portman's ethereal Golden Globe look from Christian Dior took me back to one of my favourites, Gustav Klimt's 'Farm Garden with Sunflowers'.
When artists/creatives can bring out the same aura using completely different mediums of expression >>>
Jumped today for the first time, 7 months post op. Recovery hasn't been a straight forward journey but every small win feels like it's worthy of celebration.
Should implement this to other parts of life too I guess :)
Public service announcement: Porter's 2W service is better than Swiggy Genie, Dunzo
You can find riders faster + it's 30-40% cheaper
Their marketplace for the delivery use case is deeper as it's built on top of SME use cases & hence they provide better liquidity for retail too
@niharigoat
They used to do this at my first job too! If we left our laptop unattended and open, colleagues would prank each other like this. It was used as a strategy to ensure we locked our laptops and client data was protected at all costs. Worked really well in shaping habits tbh :P
TIL that matcha contains L-theanine, which boosts alpha waves in our brain and thus enables a flow state
I think it's so fun that our bodies are machines which can be tweaked and we can be whoever we want to be - in a tangible or intangible sense
Recently fell off my daily routine, indulged in a lot of gluttony, saw a decline in my general mood & motivation
Getting back on the wagon by making 1 good decision at a time vs treating life like a stack of fallen cards with no scope of recovery
Patience feels optimistic
Friends of
@peakbengaluru
, who’s in for a group reading of Talk 4 (Practical thought about practical thought?) from Poor Charlie’s Almanac this weekend?
They scare me too, but I'm in awe of their mission orientation towards money.
As someone who has struggled to pin point the role of money in my life due to the moral policing around it, it's cool to see an unapologetic, disciplined and academic pursuit fuelled by it.
@sardamit
We live in a patriarchal society where the overwhelming majority of victims are women. Ofcourse, some men might be victims too.
Obviously we can't pick sides in individual instances but we all know what the general trend is.
Product which needs to exist: a pill which can give me the feeling of satiation when I crave an unhealthy snack but without the calories and trans fats
And this is AFTER the valuation crash from $100bn due to decline in sales
Shein doubled between 2020-22 and did $22.7bn in revenue last year. To put that in perspective, it's more established contemporary Zara did $35bn (1/n)
Fashion company Shein raises $2 Bn at $66 Bn valuation
▪️Sequoia, General Atlantic, Mubadala co-led the round
▪️The firm was valued at $100 Bn in April last year
2022 stats
▪️Revenue: ~$23 Bn

Any film with a Hans Zimmer score. The man is a genius, every composition is akin to an invention.
Probably cliche but the Dune is my favourite of all his projects because the sound is so other worldly, it feels like a character in the movie!
Rawdogged my gym sesh today, no music or podcast to scramble my thoughts. It allowed me to completely focus on form, breath, feeling and intention. I felt so much more fierce, even with my itty bitty 2kg lateral raises🐇
Improved public mobility solutions mean better access to livelihood for the common man and reduction in road congestion + fumes. Super excited to be a cheerleader for the mobility ecosystem of India
@chaloapp
Slowly learning how to treat life like a marathon and not a sprint
Specifically want to focus on the process of building the foundation of a new knowledge base, synthesizing periodically and making overall retrieval seamless
Manipur has been burning for > month; the rape while unfortunate, is probably one of the many atrocities commited on the ground as people rise in anarchy and the govt./media remain aloof. What will we do with our economic progress with an unstable social fabric at the core?
I grew up with strict parents. But we were allowed to question them and share our thoughts, sometimes they would change their mind if they agreed, they even apologised if they realised they hurt our feelings while trying to enforce the 'strictness'.
Saw Arrival again and are u really telling me an advanced alien species came to the earth w/ no plan on how to communicate w/ humans & spent >1 month playing dumb charades happily? Man they lucked out Amy Addams was there otherwise their entire operation would have failed? Pftt
The other day we made Chat GPT talk to itself on 2 diff phones under the fake scenario that they'd forgotten to turn in an assignment for class and they ended up plotting a lie to tell the teacher and divided responsibilities b/w them to execute it too
Blew our minds
Registration and bookings on IRCTC give me the adrenaline rush of an adventure sport.
Will the OTP come at the 8th click? Is 6th time the charm for this captcha? Is it me and the loading circle animation thingie forever?
A long and dense book is far less intimidating on Kindle vs the physical copy. I've owned a copy of India After Gandhi for many years and never made a dent but feel like I'm flying through it on my Kindle. Not seeing how many pages are left constantly makes it so much easier.
TIL that when Hitler killed 6M Jews during the 10 year period of 1935-45 we called it the 'Holocaust' and when the British PM Winston Churchill killed 3-4M Bengalis in just 8 months by creating an artificial famine in 1943-44 we called it 'Liberation of the world from Nazis' lol
Delhi winter feels like an immunity building marathon at my home. A spoonful of chamanprash in the morning, nuts, gud with meals, shorba with dinner, haldi milk.
The variation of seasons and alternate lifestyles the city offers is one of my favourite things about it.
So much potential here. Protein deficit is massive in the Indian vegetarian diet + all supplements are new additions/require a shift in mindset for the consumer
Education in DU is not about the curriculum.
It's about navigating:
a) an archaic system
b) a beast of a city
c) a market where non-technical degrees are slowly losing value
and still winning 👍
Delhi University has their semester exams in the most wonderful of weathers.
Thanks to them, I have now appeared for my exams during
50°C in May, 3°C in January, 384.6mm rain in July, and 410AQI in December.

Living through two temporary disabilities in 2023 has taught me how poorly equipped our infrastructure is for those with special needs and it's something you pay attention to only when it happens to you/someone close
Delhi pigeon population seems to have exploded whereas the crows have dwindled and sparrows have fully dipped. So weird to see the ecology around you collapse.
Recently met 3 people from different countries (western nations) who believed climate change is a conspiracy
Today in Delhi, Yamuna has flooded & major parts of the city are submerged
Not believing in climate change is a hobby of the rich who don't have to live with it...lol
Asking myself "what if everything goes right?" to stop the "what if everything goes wrong?" spirals at night has helped me reign in my anxiety significantly.
Perspective shapes our reality.
Not enough adults are understanding that they have to create moments of happiness in their lives. Find things to be excited about. Create plans to look forward to. Decorate the house during holidays. Make a playlist you only listen to on Tuesdays. Keep your favorite snacks
@watertyp3
Yeah when your degree isn't as competitive with technical ones (science/law etc) you've got to double down on something 😂
I did 5 in my 3 years
It seems like travel to Central Asia is booming with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in lead. We're probably seeing the end of the era of obscure ex-USSR states sandwiched between Russia, China, India etc. Wonder if we will see a v2 of Silk Route.
Not popular but definitely my favourite of the year:
Kendrick Lamar's album cover of Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, pen on paper.
I should definitely 'art' more this year. Used to be significantly better in school but then I just lost touch and a bit of the magic too.
Realising that I *might* not become a dhandha business owner, restauranter, experiential artist, dancer, diver, philosopher, movie critic, researcher, writer, climber, photographer, investor, activist, political leader and comedian in one life is the biggest TRAGEDY of my 20s
Singapore. The country is so neutral on foreign policy that both Trump and Kim Jon-un felt comfortable meeting there. Infact, previously even Taiwan and China selected Singapore for their talks. It's crazy for them to have achieved this status while also being a business centre.
Kim K's 4 year old shapewear brand Skims is valued at over $4B and hoping to close $750M in sales this year. Man, Kardashians know how to make a self replicating empires like pros
Me at 24, for 2024 - Realising animals are friends and not foes
In picture - me trying to hold on to little Lulu in a small island near the Mekong Delta in Vietnam
On a slightly tangential note, broken mobility means broken livelihood access. Work from home is a privilege restricted to a few. Solving mass mobility by creation of the right public goods will lead to massive value unlocks both in terms of ₹ as well as standard of life for all
The mindset shift b/w caregiving vs recieving is stark
While receiving care you're vulnerable & unable to make rational decisions due to pain/fear
As a caregiver you're thinking on behalf of someone else. It forces empathy, one of the most 'adult' experiences I've had
Wes Anderson has out-Wes Anderson'ed himself in the French Dispatch. Each second on the screen oozes with his signature scent. It's like a big decadent, luscious meal where the syrup leaves a texture on the roof of your mouth. You've got to want exactly that to like it.
Music aside, my favourite spotify discovery and also my
#1
podcast of the year was
@EmpirePodUK
Delhi is lucky to have
@DalrympleWill
as it's chronicler (plug: city of djinns), and now I can say the same about all the juicy bits of world history 🌈
Re-watched some bollywood movies I used to enjoy and processing the following:
1) Katrina is the manic pixie dream girl in ZNMD?
2) In YJHD, Ranbir and Deepika had spent ~ 5 days with each other before he abandoned his entire career for her?
3) SRK is a stalker in Dil Se?
My ACL and ankle ligament tears have reset my Maslow's hierarchy.
I have gone from someone who wanted 100% self actualization to someone who wants to get 80% of their basics in order.
Internalising this shift in perspective feels like a game changer.
