Horrific scenes coming out of Himachal Pradesh as it receives extreme rainfall. We must remember as the planet warms more, rainfall patterns are set to change drastically with more of these catastrophic intense events occurring. Easier to mitigate emissions than adapt, really!
Welcome to a 50 degree world where the ACs you've installed to cool yourself will catch fire in the unbearable extreme heat.
A 60°C world won't be many years away if emissions don't come down rapidly. Nothing can protect the planet from extreme heating except decarbonisation.

Gifted storytellers (irrespective of medium) have enormous influence & are essential in shaping public opinion
But when storytellers like Harari become an expert on everything there is from history to science to AI, it hurts our society in profound ways!
Videos of students and teachers collapsing under heatwave in Bihar are extremely distressing. This is an alarming situation.
Media reports the humidity was also quite high at 60 and 70%, making it feel like 55°C -

There's a deep sense of sadness and loneliness seeing this record shattering graph.
November 17, 2023 was the first day in recorded history when the earth's surface was a whole 2°C hotter than pre-industrial times. Yet, there's barely any chatter about this staggering breach.
This girl’s handlers are relentless & will bring down the credibility of all other genuine climate activists in India. Her father is accused in several cases of colossal fraud and forgery and is suspected to be using the child for his benefit & scams. Despite several exposés 1/
Just looking at the red dots(active fires) is giving me a proper headache. The Himalayan belt, Uttarakhand and Nepal, looks particularly dreadful. Apart from rains, nothing can stop these fires now I suppose.

This is pure madness. A witch-hunt meant only to intimidate young activists. What was so objectionable in the "toolkit"? That needs to be answered first!
Non-bailable warrant against activist Nikita Jacob in Greta Thunberg ‘toolkit’ case
“How do farmers speak English” is the new dumb equivalent of the old “how do refugees have smart phones”!
Ridiculous how people need to fit in a certain stereotype before their valid demands are even considered.
Can I share something crazy that happened today? Irrespective of whether it works out or not, I'm flying high rn.
I just got offered a grant, totally out of the blue to travel and write few stories about a sensitive, culturally rich and super remote area in the Himalayas.
Good news: The climate change documentary film is finally ready!
Bad news: Getting a good distribution deal is insanely unnerving!
Good news: The film looks really good!
Bad news: As a first time filmmaker, imposter syndrome attacks me often and how!
Wish me luck?! Phew.

I’ll tell you why climate change is not an election issue in India!
From my very unsystematic survey of responses on Twitter (& personal experience too), the discourse is limited to “plant more trees” & “don’t cut more trees”!
That’s it, that’s climate action for the majority

the biggest barrier to solving climate change is exemplified here— the threat perception is way off in most, especially among those who think they get it. How casually he jumps from 2°C to 3°C as if these two are only nominally different worlds & 1.2°C isn’t devastating already!

100% this!
Not the HVAC expert but I have seen ACs be rendered inefficient or incapable just under extreme heat of ~45°C. Perhaps the current equipment isn't designed to work in sustained 50°C heat?
Adaptation means retrofitting old units & developing new units to handle these extremes.

So many instances of non-expert storytellers writing incredibly popular non-fiction books with terrible understanding of the subject that fact checking for non-fiction must be the norm.
But how will publishers+writers mint millions if truth comes in the way of good business? 🙄

Between this, banning Muslim vendors around temples & the idiot manager working in Bahrain who got the restaurant shut down in just a week, Karnataka is devolving into an abhorrent, hateful state and how!
And yes we destroyed mountains and built in the path of water everywhere etc and all that, but that ship has long sailed. It's all those mistakes + anthropogenic climate change causing these disasters, the latter's role progressively becoming larger as the warming accelerates.
Always warned against QTing tweets and instead recommended taking screenshots to add your expert commentary since the former only amplifies whatever is the nonsense being peddled.
Now that Elmo is handsomely rewarding being plain stupid or hateful, please stop QTs for snark!
This is another reason you shouldn't engage with accounts that you think spread hatred or give extreme opinions. Your engagement only boosts their reach & profit.
Solution? Snap a screenshot, share, and comment separately.
This sight is obscene! Is this a Hindu temple or parliament of a "democratic, secular" country?!!
I hope the parliament building itself is non-partisan and secular in its design and symbolism so we can forget this disgraceful inauguration in future.

Nice to see more of these jargon explainers in the popular media. It's crazy how climate literacy is just assumed without ever spending resources on educating the public.
With the rise of social media, the necessity to self-promote has also risen exponentially. Even if one doesn't want to play that game, one has to do so in order to stay relevant. Sigh.
