Driving a London Black Cab is a journey which starts with the Knowledge of London; undertaken by a wide range of individuals, our training has no bias. Success is based on hard work, determination and dedication. To apply see below:
Our dear friend and integral part of UCG Roshan,
@where2mate
is in ITU at St Thomas
Please take a minute to send a prayer for Rosho
Not only a credit to our trade but one of the nicest and kind people you will ever meet
You can do it Rosho and the trade are with you 🙏😘
The UCG would like to thank
@LBHF
council for their common sense approach to the traffic management scheme at Imperial Road & Bagleys Lane. Their foresight to include The Licensed London Taxi as part of the solution is commendable. Well done all involved.
It is with deep sadness we share the devastating news our friend and member Rosh has passed away. Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and friends at this very sad time
It is with very heavy hearts that we report our much loved member Georgie Vyse has passed away following critical injuries sustained when he was hit by a motorcycle
RIP dear George it was a pleasure to have known you.
In light of the Arbuthnot revelations we will be balloting our members as a matter of urgency to vote on a return to direct action in order to demand TfL lodge an immediate appeal against her decision and that her behaviour is investigated by the judiciary
The UCG is calling on all London taxi organisations to come together, to protect our working environment in light of these unworkable restrictions placed upon our great trade. We understand the need for social distancing but the licensed taxi is the safest form of transport
Our member and great friend
@lennythepen
is in hospital with Covid
He is in good spirits and receiving first class treatment.
Len is a great asset to the UCG and trade.
We wish him a speedy and complete recovery
Huge thanks to
@QuotaxInsurance
for providing free insurance to our committee member Steve Jones tomorrow.
Steve has borrowed a Pink Taxi to fulfil the dream of a very sick little girl from GOSH who wants to go shopping in a pink cab.
Thanks to all who made this possible for her.
The UCG totally oppose the Heathrow Drop Off fee being added to meter ‘Extras’, or indeed paid by the drivers.
If we do not challenge this, be prepared for station charges, road charging etc to follow.
We are Publicly Hired and thus should have identical exemptions to buses.
Further Update for Roshan
We have just received wonderful news from Roshis sister
His BP is now stable and he is being weened off sedation and no longer needs ventilation
Hopefully he will be awake later this evening or tomorrow.
His family are overwhelmed by your support
Out of respect to George we will not be tweeting from this feed for the next 36 hours, save for any updates from Kings
We would ask you to offer up a small prayer for one of the trades most endearing and supportive characters
VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE
WE CAN NOW ANNOUNCE THAT WE HAVE THE FULL LEGAL OPINION ON TAKING LEGAL ACTION AGAINST TFL AND OTHERS.

Well done UCG Committee Member Rosh Varma who today gave a cheque for £2000 to the husband of the old lady who was robbed in a S London shop earlier this year
Rosh also received the Met Borough Commanders Commendation for his kindness and Community Spirit
Great work Rosho 👏👏
We are very sad to hear of the passing of Mr Tony Swires this morning. Many of our members remember him fondly as a firm but fair examiner. A true gentleman who will be sadly missed. We send our thoughts and condolences to his family. RIP Sir 🙏❤️
Roshan
@where2mate
had a stable night and today seems to have taken a small step in the right direction.
Still extremely ill and in the induced coma but the news today is positive
Rosho’s family is touched by all the kind messages from the trade.
Thank you all
Today the UCG takes time to remember our much loved member Roshan Varma. Rosh was a great trade supporter, much loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him . RIP Rosh 💔Out of respect for Rosh we shall not be tweeting again today.
This morning at Bromley magistrates court, our lawyer Darren Rogers
@chilternlaw2013
won an Exceptional Hardship hearing on behalf of a member who had accrued 12 penalty points.
The court allowed him to keep his driving licence.
We are preparing to defend him at a TfL hearing.
Its with great sadness to announce that our member Julie Moore has passed away at a young age
Julie was a UCG stalwart, real trade fighter & lovely lady.
She will be sadly missed.
Our thoughts are with her family and out of respect we will not tweet again today.
RIP Julie Moore
Pedi Cabs to be licensed, the tariff set by TfL, surely if their Tariff is set by TfL and they are on display to the public to be immediately hired , they are acting like an Hackney Carriage . Who’s going to speak up and defend the taxi trades interest?
We should like to thank the people who started a crowd fund for Steve Jones and little Elena from GOSH.
Steve was very humbled by this gesture but as he gave his time freely asks that all monies raised go to Elena and her family with best wishes.
Thank you all.
UCG Committee
We applaud our Chairperson Karen Procter
The stellar work she has done for us on Streetspace is incredibly helpful to the UTAG/LTDA legal challenge and was mentioned more than once during the HC hearing
Well done Karen 👏👏👏👏
The UCG wish
@UTAG17
and
@TheLTDA
good luck in their legal challenge against TfLs denial of our full and unhindered access to the Bishopsgate Bus Corridor
The UCG is devastated to learn that our member Georgie Vyse has been involved in a life threatening accident and has been airlifted to Kings.
Our thoughts and prayers are with George and his family.
It is with extreme sadness that we announce that our wonderful friend Jamie Roberts has passed away.
Jamie was UCG to the core
His untimely passing has shocked us all and our thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with Jamie’s family
RIP Jamie, God bless you
Really Tom? This is a tax avoiding company who haven’t paid £1.5 billion in VAT. If they had paid their dues maybe
@NHSuk
wouldn’t be in the position it is. Shame on you for promoting Uber.
Well
#Uber
: well done!
#Uber
is offering NHS staff 200,000 free trips and 100,000 free meals
Each NHS staff member is able to claim up to 10 rides and five meals a week.
Staff can sign up via their NHS or email address at:
The continual exclusion of Taxis from certain roads that allow bus access is a very big threat to our trade.
The UCG would like to thank
@TheLTDA
for sharing the cost of an in depth and comprehensive QC’s legal opinion as to how we can challenge these decisions in court
Wandsworth were introducing banned left turns, Monday to Friday 7am-10am except buses & cycles into Putney Heath Lane from Putney Hill & from Putney Heath Lane into Rusholme Road. Today they confirmed taxis will also be exempt & included on signage when it goes live on 26 April
Today is the funeral of George Vyse .He was a great trade supporter, much loved and respected. We will miss you everyday RIP George ❤️.Out of respect for George we shall not be tweeting again today.
Well done to all the drivers who gave up their time this weekend to make dreams come true for the 100 children and families they took to Disneyland Paris.
@MagicalTaxiTour
we salute you. 👏👏👏
Our dear friend and solid supporter of UCG and the trade, Rosh Varma
@where2mate
is in hospital with a suspected stroke.
Rosh is one of the nicest people in our trade and we wish him a full and speedy recovery
Rosho, if you need anything just ask
The UCG would like to thank
@wesstreeting
for his continued and stirling support both for our trade and to hold the toxic Uber to account for its litany of misdemeanours
The whole trade supports you Wes
👏👏👏👏
The UCG strongly oppose the suggestion that Taxi Drivers should have to undertake the English Language test By completing the KOL Taxi Drivers have demonstrated they have a topographical knowledge of London, and a command of the English Language
As the General Secretary of the UCG it’s heart warming to see So many lovely tributes to Rosh , on a personal note I will miss him dearly, on behalf of the UCG committee we’re absolutely devastated and on behalf of the UCG membership our thoughts are with his family RIP Rosh
With further revelations of apparent collusion and regulatory interference from on high appertaining to the licensing and continued ‘ ease of passage’ of ULL and the acquiescence of others, we are meeting our Temple Barristers to discuss possible legal redress
We are seeking an urgent meeting with CoL over their proposal to exclude non ZEC vehicles from Beech St
This would create an apartheid within the trade
Yellow Badge, Green Badge and Electric Badge.
We have contacted other org leaders to discuss a united response.
We fully support the metered fare, regulated by TFL and therefore refute any attempt to impose fixed fares upon our trade in exchange for continued access to our working environment.
2/2
We have not taken subs for 3 months to help our members but we have worked every day, including weekends to represent members on a one to one basis and fight for the trades right of access to roads and bridges
Subs stopped, representation never stops
Our female member who was berated by a rude & irate CEU Officer & accused of having an illegal tyre has had her court case dropped.
Excellent work by our solicitor Darren Rogers of
@chilternlaw2013
who submitted expert witness statement to CPS
Best legal cover in the trade
We have written to the Lord Chief Justice with our deep concern about the actions of Emma Arbuthnot, reasons for the concern and asked that the judgement be set aside.
This cannot be allowed to be swept under the judicial carpet.
A template letter will be sent to members.
The decision to allow UTAGS JR and let them argue in court that PHV are P4H via an app has shown that Reading is NOT the end of the argument
UCG has always held this view and today that view has been vindicated
We ask all orgs to support this and fight to maintain our rights
Taxi Drivers are deemed a risk when
carrying 5/6 passengers on 6 points yet a
bus driver can have the same number and
drive up to 70 passengers of which 59 are
seated and require no seatbelt.
@HealthyStsSE17
A huge thank you to Councillor Richard Livingstone for listening to the case we made for access for licensed taxis to pass through the bus gate
Can we all take a minute to think about our dearest friend Jim Andrews who passed away 2 years ago today
A true fighter, character and great friend to many of us.
We miss you, Jimbo
RIP 🙏
Our Vice Chair Tommy Parry has been taken to hospital suffering with pneumonia.
I’m sure the trade will join us in wishing Tommy a speedy and complete recovery.
Last night a cabbie was victim of attempted robbery in Edgware Road
Sounds like the Lisson Grove scum
They tried to force entry.
He got away and reported it to police nearby
He was told ‘ there’s nothing we can do ‘, which translates as ‘we can’t be bothered’
Be vigilant
RT
Well done to drivers of all orgs who gave their time and vehicles yesterday in order to take disadvantaged children to Hastings for a day at the seaside
Wonderful organised, as always by the Albany Taxi Charity
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
We are being asked if we have ‘a plan’ after yesterday’s disgraceful decision.
Of course we do and have been working on it for many weeks.
Members have been emailed
We will be launching a legal challenge against TfL and will post full details of the challenge and crowdfund asap
The funeral of Tony Swire will be held on November 30th
Our thoughts will be Tony’s family on that day.
Mr Swire was the consummate examiner and well loved by all who had him on an appearance
RIP Tony Swire 🙏
Great result in Wimbledon Mag Ct today
Thanks to
@chilternlaw2013
and our own Karen Procter a 12 month minimum revocation with no guarantee for a licence in the future was successfully overturned and reduced to a 3 month suspension for a member who had failed to divulge points
In light of trade unity bought about by the actions of
@UTAG17
the
@UnitedCabbies
will today unblock every Taxi driver we have blocked.We kindly suggest others do the same.
Today the UCG takes time to remember Jamie Roberts. Our great friend and colleague who we lost 1 year ago. He was a great trade supporter, much loved and respected. We miss you everyday RIP Jamie❤️.Out of respect for Jamie we shall not be tweeting again today..
UCG VOTE FOR RETURN TO DEMO RESULT
Demo to highlight the possible conflict of interest of Judge Emma Arbuthnot whilst presiding over Uber cases
93% for
7% against
We will be meeting the other orgs next week and announce the date and venue shortly afterwards
The UCG totally oppose TfLs plan for the trade to undergo all medicals at a Medical Centre of their ( TfL’s) choice
We opposed it a year ago
We opposed it yesterday
We shall continue to oppose this ridiculous idea.
The trade has NEVER been implicated in dodgy medicals.
