It’s exactly 15 yrs today that my best friend Matt Stokes died. He was blisteringly funny, unbelievably kind, extremely brave & 32. His cancer was brutal, incessant & to watch him slowly crumble away was one of the worst things I’ve ever witnessed. Gallows humour got him through.

My 4 year old was watering our plants, badly, when she suddenly shouted she’d found a slug trapped in a shell. I reminded her it was a snail. She looked me right in the eyes and said “No daddy! It’s a slug, it’s got stuck inside, so now it’s just going to have to die in there”.
