Try the 80/20 approach: 80% of my diet is from these foods: Ground beef, chicken, eggs, fruit, sweet potatoes, honey, asparagus, kimchi, macadamia nuts, yogurt/fermented dairy, whey protein, olive oil, avocados, lentils. The other 20% comes from life & I don’t obsess over it.

The body doesn’t reset to zero every night at midnight. Try focusing on the NET calories over the course of a WEEK instead of daily. You might eat 2500 calories today, maybe 1500 tomorrow, etc Try it, it is extremely liberating to not be bound to a calorie count every day.

This sounds silly, but it works. Drink a protein shake (or eat some protein) before going grocery shopping. It’s amazing how much less junk ends up in your pantry when you’re satiated. One simple decision eliminates 25 crappy ones later in the week.

Sitting for more than 8 hours per day is now correlated with a 15-45% increased risk of mortality. This finding was independent of physical activity outside of those 8 hours. Simply put, for most people, the emphasis should be on sitting LESS, not necessarily exercising more.

A 12,583 Person July 2023 Study in JAMDA showed: Higher Coffee Consumption led to LESS Physical Frailty and MORE Muscle Mass later in life. It’s likely because the caffeine gave them energy and they moved more, so before bashing coffee we should consider the upside. MOVEMENT

Study in Physiology Reports found 1 night of terrible sleep can reduce muscle protein synthesis by 18%. This means your ability to recover and build muscle is greatly reduced. If you slept terrible, try increasing your lean protein intake the next day to make up for it.

Eating intuitively sounds great in theory. Except that we have hyperpalatable foods that light up our brains like a Christmas tree in Times Square. It’s becoming increasingly more difficult to “listen to our bodies.” Trust me. It’s okay to have a plan.

If you’re in a pinch while trying to cut weight and eat lean protein: Never underestimate the power of good quality deli meat (without the phosphates and other junk). A little sodium never hurt anything and it’s generally better than grabbing a protein bar.
