Thurgood Marshall's opinions are still alive, three decades after his death. It was his argument for affirmative action’s constitutionality nearly 50 years ago that set the foundation for all subsequent legal debate on the issue.
The
@washingtonpost
and
@nytimes
now report that Trump is already planning to use the U.S. military against political opponents who demonstrate in the streets if he returns to the White House.
I’m a big boy. I can ignore Trump's bullying, even his followers’ death threats. But this is bigger. He is engaged in a coordinated attack on every journalist’s ability to hold him accountable, call out his lies and critique his failed policies.
It is no longer outside the realm of possibility that Trump could refuse to leave if he loses the 2020 election. And if he does not accept an election defeat — he will have a virtual army on social media to defend him. Where does this stop?
Unless full voting-rights protections are passed by Democrats now with their slim majority in Congress, historians will look back on 2021 as the year the American democracy died.
I have seen young black & white people inspired as they hear Thomas’ life story. He grew up poor and fatherless in Georgia yet followed the guidance of a strict grandfather to achieve academic excellence, graduate from Yale and serve on the Supreme Court.
Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes this week! Special thanks to my daughter and grandkids for the Cookie Monster birthday cake! Om nom nom nom
If
#evangelicals
decide a few more judges aren’t worth sacrificing their most cherished principles of Christian love and morality, they may well end up voting for a white Catholic. His name is
@JoeBiden
.
Good catching up with
@amyklobuchar
at Logan Airport, fresh off her strong finish in last night's
#NewHampshirePrimary
! She is a real contender for the "center lane" in the Democratic primary.
It’s time to call out
@realDonaldTrump
supporters for what they are — people willing to excuse the inexcusable when it comes to his dangerous dives into identity politics.
@thehill
By the way, there is no question that Russia worked to get Trump elected. U.S. intelligence agencies stated unequivocally in January 2017 that Russia interfered for the express purpose of boosting him and defeating his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.
Let history record that a delusional president, concerned only with his own ego, and a traitorous Republican Congress, concerned only with their own reelections, chose to ignore warnings about Russian interference in our elections.
Historians now agree that Richard Nixon & Henry Kissinger deliberately took steps to sabotage Vietnam peace talks in 1968, to make Nixon’s election more likely. In other words, he invited death, international turmoil, & violent political division at home.
I know
@TheJuanWilliams
gets heat on social media from conservatives, but I have to say he’s one of my favorite people to debate it out with. Off-camera, also a super nice guy. It’s not easy to be outnumbered opinion-wise on a show! (but it can be lots of fun, I’ve been there 😉)
Thank you to everyone for the warm birthday wishes! A special thank you to my daughter Regan for the delicious birthday cake! At 64, I am grateful for family, friends, colleagues and to live in the greatest country in the world, the United States of America!

Congratulations to President Biden.
Last week he gave the most effective, most honest foreign policy speech by an American president in the last 60 years.
The coronavirus doesn’t care whether you are a liberal or conservative. We are all in this together. Our best hope is to take care of each other.
@thehill
Trump has succeeded in using social media to open a Pandora’s Box of racism, hatred, paranoia, conspiracy-mongering, and rejection of the legitimacy of major American institutions, from the courts to the CIA.
The more I watch
@POTUS
, the more I agree that Democrats have a chance in the midterms. It starts with party messaging that defines Biden as the right man to lead the nation at this moment.
Dear
@JoeBiden
- To my mind,
@AmbassadorRice
be a great vice president. She provides you with a fierce tag-team partner for
@realDonaldTrump
’s bare-knuckle political wrestling. She has no problem saying the Trump administration is “racist to its core.”
I'm a Democrat but I have voted for Republicans. One of my sons ran for office as a Republican. My other son worked for the RNC. But I can’t stomach what has happened to the GOP in 2021. And I can’t understand why every American isn’t screaming about it.
Great to meet Bryan Cranston - one of the most gifted and talented actors of our time. So many great roles but my favorite will always be Walter White (Heisenberg) from Breaking Bad !!!
If you are reading this column years from now, you might think this is a parody. You can’t believe that any president got away with turning the White House into a gaudy stage for partisan politics.
Another toxic form of quasi-secession by Trump’s supporters is evident in GOP-controlled state legislatures taking power away from local election officials.
The
@GOP
effort to undercut democracy can be seen in the work of GOP state legislatures to grab control of vote counting, taking control of election results away from independent officials. The
#CaliforniaRecall
is born from the same destructive mindset.
As we approach Memorial Day, never forget that Trump dodged military service to the nation with a dubious claim of bone spurs. This is the same man who insulted American prisoners of war by saying, "I like people who weren't captured."
By finally standing up to Trump and expertly navigating the process that will most likely result in his impeachment, Pelosi wins the prize for Politician of the Year.
They used to pay me to fight with
@RepLizCheney
on live TV.
Now she’s fighting to keep the Republican Party alive.
I’m no Republican. But this time I’ve got her back.
I am a Black man. I was born in a Latin country. I grew up in a Spanish-speaking family. It stuns me to see that Trump attracted the highest percentage of the non-white vote of any
@GOP
presidential candidate in the last 60 years.
@thehill
Please note that
@LindseyGrahamSC
once voted to impeach then-President Bill Clinton for lying about sex. But today he is willing to look away from a Republican president who fomented a violent insurrection that left five people dead.
@thehill
I get mad at Democrats who can’t see the urgent need to improve public schools because they are blinded by money coming from teachers’ unions. To my mind, the unions are more intent on protecting jobs for adults than improving schools for children.
Sorry to disappoint, Mr. President, but I will continue to point out your failures. But just because you attack me personally, I will not refrain from praising you when we agree. Kudos for criminal justice reform and backing school choice,
@POTUS
@thehill
This reaction against Trump is likely fueled not only by his demonization of immigrants and nonwhite people, but by his constant bullying and name-calling.
