Germany has dealt with the shame of the Nazi past. It has not come to terms with its colonial history. Germany's first genocide was committed in Namibia, 1904 1908. The generals who sent people to concentration camps there still have street names and monuments in Germany, in 2020

Crowdsourcing: not all online teaching suggestions work for language courses. How do we teach intro language classes online in a way that does’t devolve into an expensive version of Duolingo? Can we share the best tools and strategies here to be prepared, tagging #digitallangs ?

One of these people leads a country where advanced higher ed is thought to be a pretty good thing meriting recognition, titular & otherwise. The other "leads" a country where advanced higher ed is routinely portrayed as a menace, a waste, or luxury grift. Who's right, #DrBiden ?

The @Moma released this haunting 1902 film of the Wuppertal Suspended Railway in Germany - but now it’s been colourised and upscaled to 4K and it is incredibly beautiful

Our Feb. 15 deadline for #GSA2021 conference submissions is now magically extended to March 1. (To quote Dar Williams, "February was so long, that it lasted into March.")

Please follow the treasured voice in critical feminist scholarship, @womeningerman , for their research and super-smart commentary about gender and race in the Germanophone world. Btw, the next deadline to submit to their journal is October 31.

This outfit is well-funded, glossy. German programs need to take a clear stand that they reject association w/ "student-led" astroturf white supremacy, dressed as western civ. These groups want to find sympathetic harbour in our classes. No thanks.
