People, Elvis has left the building: at 19:00 the Stena Foreteller left Rosslare on its maiden voyage to Cherbourg. With all driver cabins full & packed with freight bound for Continent. Here's to the essential workers keeping vital supplies moving - we salute you 🙏

And so it begins... our first sailing after Brexit, on Saturday 2nd Jan is SOLD OUT. The Stena Horizon will be jampacked with over 50 truck drivers with their loads & a boatload (literally) of freight; all destined for the shortest direct route to France.
Breaking news: in another Brexit-busting move our new vessel Stena Embla is NOT starting from Belfast as planned. She's being deployed on our Rosslare to Cherbourg route from tomorrow. It can add 3km of trucks & 175 comfy cabins - that's a lot of sleep-happy truckers.
#brexit
Some good news to start 2021: Stena Embla has arrived in Belfast. It is the third new vessel we've added to our Irish Sea fleet in the past year alone. For now she'll be concentrating on freight, but hopefully some of you can take a trip on her soon.

Update for Irish Sea freight customers: the Stena Foreteller is being moved into position to commence on the Rosslare to Cherbourg route. We will now have two ships departing tomorrow direct to France. Please contact our freight team for bookings.

Conor our people are key workers going 2 work 7 days a week, doing shifts covering 24 hours a day to ensure vital supply lines stay open. Keeping supermarkets stocked, hospitals supplied & parcels delivered. So why not focus on the positive & thank them for their hard work? Simon
While it has been quiet in Holyhead so far today, the port authority indicate that six freight loads bound for Ireland have had to be turned away due to not have the correct references. Hauliers please ensure you have your PBNs ready for check-in.
@WGEconTransport
@TrafficWalesN
Attention hauliers using Holyhead to export to ROI: from 1st Jan you’ll need a valid Pre-Boarding Notification from the Irish Revenue to check in. Without it you’ll not be allowed into the port & will be turned away. The link to check your PBN is now live

Morning Conor, it is important to reiterate that we are asking people to adhere to gov’t restrictions and ONLY travel for ESSENTIAL REASONS and NOT leisure. Happy Easter. Best wishes, The Little Egg with a Ronnie.
I’m in Dublin Port to check out all the trucks 😍. Oh boy is it a freight fan’s dream. Look at all this wonderful freight waiting for our first sailing to Cherbourg. It’s almost too much to take 💓(note: a lot had already loaded by the time this was shot)

Phwoar look 👀 at all those trucks waiting in Rosslare for Stena Embla to take them to France. That’s a LOT of freight 😍🥰💓

This is huge. Stena Elektra is moving closer to being a reality. Within a year the first specifications will be outlined. By 2025 (at the latest) the fully electric ferry will be ordered. It will be the first sea-faring ferry of its type in the world.
Great video showing just how bad the wind was in Rosslare today when Stena Estrid tried to dock. Check out the heart-in-mouth moment at 21 secs! Nerves of steel from Captain Whittaker. Estrid then headed off to Dublin just to prove we get our customers to Ireland in any weather👏
@TheNotoriousMMA
👏👊 Respect and thank you on behalf of all the ferry crews, dockers, engineers, onboard services, port staff, tug drivers, stevedores, contact centre teams and everyone working at Stena Line that is keeping the freight moving and countries supplied. Best, Simon
@castlvillageman
We are giving free travel to all Ukrainians and have been doing since the start of the conflict. A lot have travelled with us since, across all routes. We are also providing free transportation to humanitarian aid being sent by NGOs and charities. Best wishes, Simon
Stena Vinga has arrived in Ireland. The vessel will start tonight on Rosslare - Cherbourg, providing additional travel & freight capacity on this important route. It will undertake 3 return trips weekly departing Rosslare on Mon, Weds & Friday evenings.
Pure class from the Italian crew of the Stena Horizon, giving Stena Estrid and her amused crew, an operatic greeting as they swapped routes in Holyhead.

It is a BIG day for this man: Captain Whittaker of the Stena Embla. He has been based in China, which he loved, overseeing the building of our three new vessels in Weihai. He then sailed the ship back across the world. Tonight we say bon voyage to France. Fair winds Captain!

Hi Conor, you’ll notice Extra has changed the title of that article. People are adhering to gov’t reg’s on essential travel & this has been confirmed by RTE, The Irish Times, & by the Taoiseach at last night’s press conference. It is vital that we stick to the facts. Best, Simon
Huge congratulations to the Stena Line Belfast Giants - worthy champions of the Elite League for a record equalling fifth time. Well done to everyone involved.

I think it's Kris, but we could always get him to change it. Surely there is an old maritime law that allows us to do that. Best, Simon.
Time for some 'Port Poetry'
Step up Estrid,
your time has come,
to head on down to Rosslare,
and do the Cherbourg run.
So pick up the trucks,
and watch out for the ducks,
sail through the port exit,
and help Ireland avoid Brexit.

Tonight’s crib on the Stena Mersey to from Liverpool Birkenhead to Belfast. I always sleep like a baby on a ferry. It’s the purr of the engine, the rocking motion, and pitch blackness. Perfect.
Brexit update: we are seeing huge levels of stockpiling by freight customers on the North Sea & the Irish Sea. The latter in particular, which has broken records 3 weeks in a row. Freight on IS last week was up 19% year-on-year. Some customers are moving 6 times normal volumes.
Look at this Glynn's truck looking lovingly😍 at our Stena Embla. Don't worry, she may be new in town but she knows how to handle a truck or two hundred. A nod and a wink to
@GlynnPadraic
for the photo; he obviously has exquisite taste in ferries.

This is the ferry that those lucky lorry drivers are enjoying on their way to France today. Stena Embla will be choc full to the gills with happy truckers & Irish products bound for the Continent. Hat tip to

Thread: More musical ferries on the Irish Sea today as we manage distorted freight demand. Embla will stand down from her emergency role in the South & move back North to belatedly to start her maiden voyage on her intended route from Belfast to Birkenhead, tonight at 23:00.

Thanks Braden, they’re on their own front line and doing a brilliant job in very difficult times. Their work is now more important than ever and it is the least they deserve. Best, Simon
Yesterday Stena Estrid participated in an exercise with the Army Ranger Wing of the Irish Defence Forces, in Dublin Bay. They boarded the vessel from the rear and the top deck. Check out these photos.

Hi Phil, in line with gov’t guidelines people are allowed to travel if it is essential that they must. For instance Irish people are allowed to come home. The country is not going to abandon them during a crisis and neither are we. Best, Simon

in the middle and Wales in the distance. We will have a newly refurbished vessel, Stena Nordica, on this route from July. (Credit to Paul Maguire on Facebook.)
This time last year our 3 new ships were about to redefine ferry travel. Who would’ve thought that a year later they’d be redefining freight trade, with their 175 cabins taking truck drivers to France. All thanks to agility, flexibility, & deliverability.
@kkanecelt
Hi Kieran, we haven't withdrawn it. Edda has been using the ramps for a year and continues to do so on the route. Embla will be back there using them too, but in the meantime we need to go where demand is and at the moment Belfast-Liverpool is -26% y-o-y. Fair winds Simon
Here's what a Turkish nose job looks like ⛴️👃. The former Stena Mersey now renamed Stena Baltica, in the Sedef Shipyard. She will emerge with a new bow door, 30% bigger freight capacity & 88 more cabins, & new paintwork. Check out this amazing project >>>

We have a reduced service today, so much less activity than usual. Plus it was always going to be less busy being a bank holiday and with the GB to Ire travel ban.
Damn right we do. The only thing we love more than photos of ships, or photos of trucks, are photos of ships and trucks. OMG look at all those trucks 😍😍😍 *faints*

The first of our two larger 240 meter long E-Flexer ferries now moved in to the dry dock phase at the yard in China. She is planned to touch water before the summer this year and delivered a year later. The destination of the as-yet-un-named ferry has not yet been revealed.

Starting Friday 25th June, we will commence a new temporary route between Holyhead and Belfast. Stena Estrid will commence two return sailings from Holyhead to Belfast at the weekends to add much-needed capacity to meet demand from our travel and freight customers.
This day last year we launched Stena Estrid. We had to be in Holyhead for 5am for Wake Up To Money and Breakfast on BBC 5 Live from the Bridge. It finished on the helipad as the sun came up over Snowdonia. It was cold enough to freeze the balls of a brass monkey (a thread).
Goodnight everyone, we are off to dream about ferries. Tonight's slumber is brought to you by the Stena Foreteller, which sails on the Rosslare to Cherbourg route. What a great looking ship. 🛳️ Zzzz
Got my sea legs on again. Off to sunny Holyhead. Had breakfast with the truckers, so we could talk Brexit. One moves parcels into Dublin. Typically a loads now needs 300 references for all the diferent goods. One driver was stuck for two days in Dublin Port. (cont)

news! 🎉⛴️ Today, Stena Estrid, our first next-generation vessel has left the Weihai shipyard in China starting the journey home to the Irish sea! Bon voyage, team!
The Stena Adventurer docking in Holyhead right now. Loving the symmetry of the freight trailers on the upper deck, but my OCD tells me they should’ve put the yellow one in the middle.

Lockdown or no lockdown it doesn't affect us. Our ferries and ports will continue to operate all day and all night, every day, as they did all last year. Keeping vital supplies of food, medical equipment, and pharmaceuticals moving right across northern Europe. We don't stop.
There's a new kid in town and boy is she big. Great shots here that show how much bigger our new vessels are. Stena Europe looks small but she's a big old lady of the sea herself.
