Just finished reading Max Hasting’s history of WWII ‘All Hell Let Loose’. Ten pages from the end, completely unexpectedly, I came across an outline of my grandfather’s experience of the war. It includes some incredibly moving quotations from his letters to my gran.
At the 2021 WSOP I played with Robbie in the 1500 Shootout. We played a long heads up until 10pm. She did insanely unconventional things, obviously it’s not proof, but this footage where she’s flustered and can’t explain her thinking chimes with my experience.
Feeling very blessed to run so pure at the very highest stakes in such a unique and enjoyable tournament format. Some of the most fun I’ve ever had playing cards.
Lederer, Ferguson, Russ Hamilton, Annie Duke were all held up as idols by the poker community and media and turned out to be despicable characters and now we’re seeing another generation of players implicated in cheating and wrong doing.
If there’s no cheating involved perhaps we can have a think about the way we treat amateur players new to the game. Industry streams and high stakes pros are very quick to push anyone who seems to have disposable money to play super high as quick as possible.
REMINDER: Don’t forget to let people know that 10k 6-max is your favourite tournament of the Summer. Important to let people know how good you are at poker and that it’s only the pesky extra players at the table that stop you from winning.
Toby Lewis, by the way… EPT Champion at 19, Aussie Millions Winner, final-tabled PCA, LA Poker Classic, Pocket-Fives Number 2 in the world. Two Aussie Millions High Roller titles and basically all round king of Melbourne.
Thanks so much for all the enthusiastic messages. Very proud to play SCOOP today as part of
@PokerStars
Team Pro. Marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for me.
Poker culture is declining 2% swaps from life long friends because you’re unsure of the EV and then drunkly booking five balls with any reg who hands you a drink at the ‘Player’s Party’ for morale.
@ALLinPav
Not many people have the guts to post about losing years. I’m sure that it helps others who’ve struggled with their results this year to know that someone as smart and hard-working as yourself can also run really bad. Wishing you an amazing 2023 both personally and professionally
Things I enjoyed doing while I was rich:
- Reg’ing the Sunday Grand
- Buying BLOCKv at the ATH
- Purchasing first editions of obscure John Updike novels
- Overusing the word ‘bullish’
- Mispronouncing the word ‘Fibonacci’
- Attempting to convince my Uber driver to but BTC at 16k
Don’t use resources between hands. When cards are live stay off of any assistance. When it’s a break you can check something. Very obvious how we should behave.
I won the Big $5.50 again. Got third in the $5.50 Maratjon aswell. That’s some grinding you don’t even know about. Sick thing is a year from now I’m gonna play SHRB. Retweet me I don’t give a fuck.
Heading home from Vegas. Amongst all the controversies, never forget how many amazing, warm, generous people we have in the community. Love you all. See you next year.
Had the middle seat on overnight 11 hour flight. An hour in I realise the people on the window and aisle seats are a couple. That’s straight evil right?
My brother took me to see ‘Rounders’ on 35mm at the cinema this week. There was some sniggering from a knowing audience at some of the poker, but overall a great watch. I had a few thoughts...
Tournament format idea: As soon as I personally am eliminated, there is an immediate chip chop of the remaining prize pool and we never speak of the event again.
✌️
Congrats to
@SquidPoker
on taking down an

side event. 🥇
Sam took the gold in a €25k High Roller, striking a heads-up deal with Timothy Adams, and collecting €240,050. 🏆

One thing I’ve to realise from meeting with game integrity people is that it’s pretty much a myth that it’s players that uncover bot rings and identify bad actors - we need dedicated security staff not well known pros to police the online space.
A wild llama could run loose in the Brazilia room and I bet it wouldn’t generate as many hits on Pokernews as a photo of Phil Ivey sitting down to play a tournament.
Amazing results yesterday for

. Battling every day during big series can be really challenging. Broadcasting or streaming to any type of audience can be equally tough. These guys that can do both at once deserve all the plaudits 👏 👏 👏
Anyone concerned about the private cash game model being exported in to tournaments for the first time?
Any debate or discussion about whether it’s a good thing? It’s potential ramifications for the highest stakes tournaments?
Nah. Let’s just talk about Christoph’s hoody again
Connor Beresford is number one in the world by a country mile on PocketFives. They’ll never be an online player from the U.K. as iconic as Moorman. But Connor’s results are unreal and he can be considered up there with Moor, Brammer and Pads as the very best we’ve produced.
It might be an unpopular take - but I’m very surprised that the communities main idea for solving our problems is to empower yet another group of high profile players to oversee some kind of ‘blacklist’.
Considering making an entry in the well known ‘poker twitter’ sub genre where a pro who runs well above EV says how great the stop was and promises to be back next year.
Wow. You have to watch this, it just happened live on
