It's fantastic to see crowd, and the legend, @DafyddIwan , sing 'Yma o Hyd' at #WALAUT . I wrote article in Cambria, in 2010 about what inspired DI to compose the song in 1983 & why it resonates. We'd never have believed that it wld be sung by Dafydd at a @cymru match. 😲👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Garage by Carmarthen. As usual I speak Welsh, "Shwmae, pwmp rhif pump, plîs". Why assume staff wouldn't speak Welsh? Cashier can't speak Welsh fluently, counts "un, dau, tri, pedwar, pump" to herself. Clicks that pump = 5. Smiles, I pay. 🙂 No probs. No fuss. Respect to her.👍

But staff in Aberystwyth Post Office didn't understand "shwmae, llyfr stamps, plîs" and found it an affront when I repeated in English then suggested she could learn some v basic Welsh, literally, about 10 words, as if learning Welsh (uniquely) was an impossibility.

@NationCymru In 2018 Welsh Labour MP's voted or abstained for it to be an Englandandwales project and against devolving rail fully to Senedd. Labour Assembly Govt in 2004 turned down offer from Blair to have full control of rail. Welsh Labour literally kept Wales poor and refused investnent.

Q for linguists. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Why do many non Welsh speakers (maybe particularly Welsh people who don't speak Welsh) put an -r at the end of Welsh words. Just ordered coffee in Cardiff, staff responded "bore dar" (bore da) when I greeted them in Welsh. Same with "Ymar o Hyd". 🤔

One of great "what ifs" of Welsh history. Unlike Lloyd George, he wld have fought and delivered for Wales. At least we'd have had Sec of State for Wales in 1900-10s which would have solidified Wales's politi & some status for Cymraeg. As was, we wasted 60+ yrs for basic status.

Speaking Welsh in Wales can be, erm, dodgy, which is why many people don't 'risk' it. Attitudes certainly change thanks to 'hard' status won by political campaigning and also soft status through things like football and #YmaoHyd .

Interesting to see how similar Welsh and Breton are. Mor Hanternoz (North Sea, exactly as Môr Hanner Nos, "Midnight Sea", though it's Môr Tawch in Welsh - Mist/Haze Sea). Mor Kreizdouar = Môr Craidd Daear, though, we say Môr y Canoldir, which is same. Craidd in Welsh = core.

Remember this. Inspiration for many in Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. As member of @plaidifanc we organised public meeting in Aberystwyth to support Lithuania w 🇱🇹 & 🇱🇻 reps speaking. Room was packed. Labour Party members argued against Lith indy, and for USSR. No doubt support Lith & Ukr indy now.

@andersostlund Russia is a failed state. Russian nationality a failed imagined community. They've had 400 to build a decent state but always chose empire and repression; a 'Great' Russia before a Good Russia. Time West got ready to recognise independence of nations like Tatarstan, Chechnya etc.

@MavkaSlavka @andersostlund Russia and Putin have appropriated the death and suffering on Ukrainian, Belarusian, Baltic and Circassian territory in WW1 & WW2 & Napoleon's campaign, as their own. Leningrad & Stalingrad were inhuman, but most fighting and suffering not on Russian territory.

Labour will do everything to stop #indywales keep Wales under Westminster even if Scotland leaves. Welsh Labour isn't a radical party, its a Welsh Fianna Fail. Their unconscious British nationalism keeps them from being radical, recent radical policies only cos Plaid forced them.
