My 12-year old daughter watched 50
@prageru
videos this summer and took notes on each one to earn some new shoes. We had a blast discussing them together!
This summer I am paying my kids a small amount to watch
@prageru
videos and write short summaries. They get to spend half and then must give the other half away.
Tim Keller has passed away. Although we never met, I deeply appreciate his book The Reason for God and how he always aimed to graciously engage others.
QUESTION: As a Christian, I believe Jesus was right that the root problem in the world is sin, which manifests itself in sexism, racism, hatred, etc. If you’re not a Christian, what do you think is the ROOT issue of why the world is broken?
The paradox of happiness: If you seek happiness as an end in itself, you will live a self-absorbed life, which (ironically) leads to misery. Happiness is found when we stop looking for it and focus on loving others (Matt 6:33).

Tip of the Day: Be patient! Got an email from a friend who researched the historical Jesus for 7-8 years and just decided to become a Christian.
Remember, let’s keep the main thing the main thing. The RESURRECTION is the heart of the christian faith. If it happened, Christianity is true. If not, its false (1 Cor 15).
The unborn is not a potential human being, but a human being with potential. Sperm and egg are potential humans, but at their union, there’s a new human being who has the potential to grow and mature.
One of the most powerful lessons my Father taught me is to not see myself as a victim. His father was a drunk, his sister committed suicide, and he was sexually abused for 7 years. Yet my dad has refused to see himself through the lens of victimhood.
I asked a senior citizen headed to a restaurant if he was aware of the CA quarantine for those over 65. He simply said, “I don’t identify as 65, so it doesn’t apply to me.” And then walked away 🤔.
If you are discouraged about the news of a few well-known Christians who have left the faith, focus instead on those who are faithful, including the apostle Paul (1 Cor. 11:1).
Interviewed Os Guiness this week for our podcast. Asked him off the record about his legacy and he said “legacy” is a secular idea and that Christians should only desire to hear God say, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
Surgery today 8:30 am PT. Would covet the prayers. I’m told it’s low-risk and high success.
Lord willing, I’m gonna come home, rest, and watch the NBA season kick off.
To my friends who have left the faith: Have you taken the time to ensure you rejected the ACTUAL faith of Jesus? I’m amazed how many people reject a straw man, bad experience, or poor relationship.
Health Update (3)
Saw my surgeon today and he said all is progressing well. Pain is greatly lessened (1-2 level) and he said it should go away within a few weeks. I’m so RELIEVED. Headed on a 9-day trip with my wife this Friday and gonna enjoy it!
It’s here! Gary Habermas’s 1,100 page defense of the resurrection arrived (vol 1). It’s 5 lbs! Posting a 2-hour deep dive with him tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Health Update (PERSONAL)
Some of you have expressed recent concern about my health, so I wanted to give a public update. First, it is not life-threatening. Let me repeat myself for clarity: I am not experiencing anything life-threatening. I do not have cancer.
Regardless of where you are on the political or religious landscape, can we agree that we should resist the urge to define an entire group by what a small number of that group has done? Trying to get better at this myself.

Tip of the Day: If you engage in the public conversation, and defend Christ, you will be ridiculed. But don’t return the favor or become callous. The only response must be LOVE.
What’s your favorite dramatic moment in the Bible? One of mine is the Father running to embrace the prodigal son and embracing him. Countercultural and beautiful.
Christians, let's all pray for the new administration today. Regardless of your political position, it seems we can all agree on that, right? 1 Timothy 2:2
Silencing the expression of opinion is evil because it robs the human race of the chance to exchange error for truth, or if the view is wrong, gain greater clarity of truth (JS Mill, On Liberty, 1859)
The daughter of Bertrand Russell, on her atheist father: “Somewhere at the back of my father’s MIND at the bottom of his HEART, in the depths of his SOUL, there’s an empty space that had once been filled by God, and he never found anything else to put in it.”
Ironies of our time: We are more digitally connected, and yet more lonely. We have endless information, but little wisdom. We have more time-saving devices, but are busier than ever. We have more abundance, but less happiness.
Did I miss any?
SECOND Health Update:
Just met with another specialist, (one of the best in OC), and he’s confident he can help with surgery next week. It’s low risk & high success rate. Pain has become manageable the past few days. Thanks to ALL for prayers and encouragement. Getting there!
The Bible has shaped us more deeply than we realize. Even common phrases like these testify to its impact: “salt of the earth,” “going the extra mile,” “scapegoat,” and “Good Samaritan.”
A destructive message we tell boys is that real men don't cry. Jesus wept over Jerusalem (Luke 19) and at the death of Lazarus (John 11). Like Jesus, real men cry at the right things.
Christianity is about power. Not the power of strength, but weakness. Not the power of control, but letting go. The power of serving people, not using them.
Health Update (3):
Surgery is set for Tuesday Oct 24, 10:30 am PT. Two surgeons have said it’s low-risk, high-success, and I should be back at it within a few days. Would covet the prayers 🙏! My pain has dropped from brutal (at times) to manageable.
