Storm Chasers is dedicated to covering the 4-time WNBA Champion Seattle Storm and the entire WNBA. Aiming to be the very best media coverage for the Storm.
It’s now been a little over one year since switching to Substack. I’ve written and published over 100 articles just since making the switch. For those that have subscribed and support me - THANK YOU! Not many independent beat writers do what I do.

By popular request, here is the hilarious video of Sue Bird talking to media today about how she found out that her new teammate’s mother is her same age. Must watch!

Skylar Diggins-Smith scored 18 points on 57% FG shooting. She led Seattle with nine assists and had ZERO turnovers. Can we just take a moment to appreciate a powerful mother of two!? Baller.

I asked Nika Mühl if she's had the chance to speak with Coach Geno Auriemma since officially making the
#WNBA
Seattle Storm roster. She responded.
"Yeah, of course. He texts me every day. We talk every day. Basketball-related, non-basketball-related, but he makes sure that he
Sue Bird says she started to cry when the fans chanted “One more year” because this is the first time she isn’t sure if she’s playing next season.

#SeattleStorm
Diana Taurasi spoke about this moment after the game. "I was like 'This is going to be the worst jump ball ever and if I lose this I'm done!', I would die." 😂😂😂

This is the most absurd stat from the Sue Bird press release. “She has scored or assisted on 27.6% of every basket in Storm history, including four seasons she didn’t play.”
What an absolute legend!
The Seattle Storm released their training camp roster and the new player's official jersey numbers.
0 - Kaela Davis
1 - Nika Mühl
2 - Kiana Williams
3 - Nneka Ogwumike
4 - Sklylar Diggins-Smith
11 - Quay Miller
35 - Victoria Vivians
81 - Alaina Coates

It’s so disappointing to me that whenever the ESPN main account or Bleacher Report or any other giant sports outlet tweet about the WNBA the amount of disgusting comments is endless. Always talking about a sandwich, get back in the kitchen, or who is this? It’s 2022 FFS.
Kate Martin said A'ja Wilson is the best basketball player and best teammate she's ever had. She talked about how A'ja is always supporting her teammates and said when the best player in the world is encouraging her to shoot, it gives her a lot of confidence.

I just spoke with Diana Taurasi about her welcoming fellow UConn Husky alum, Nika Mühl, to the
#WNBA
during this past Tuesday's preseason game. She had nice things to say about the Seattle Storm's newest point guard.
A “one more year” chant breaks out for Sue Bird as Diana Taurasi encourages the fans in their chant. The best friends exchange jerseys after another classic playoff game between the two squads.

I want to take a moment to sit back and really appreciate the growth of the
@WNBA
. We just had an hour long press conference with
@nnekaogwumike
and
@SkyDigg4
where the local Seattle media had tons of questions plus more on Zoom. We have come a long way even in the past 5 years.
Tina Charles started to get emotional and tear up a little bit when she learned the team had clinched a playoff spot. She said she hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2016. That this organization is used to it, but it’s very special for her. 🥹

Sue Bird said “For those that are asking ‘What’s a 40 year old doing on this team!?’” She says - “Thanks for the motivation!”

Nika Mühl rattled in a corner three-pointer for her first made basket in the
#WNBA
. She did hit a free throw earlier. And just now she had one of those midrange pull-ups that another UConn Point Guard used to be so good at. Mühl has 6 points off the bench.
Noelle Quinn confirmed that Nika Mühl will miss tonight's game due to Visa issues. But stated that one game does not erase her body of work throughout her college career and from the practices in camp. And that she'll be back with the team when they return to Seattle.
#WNBA
Sue Bird announcing her return will make it a little easier to predict the Storm’s 2022 roster. The next big dominoes will be Jewell and Stewie.
#WNBATwitter
Nika Mühl checked in and immediately forced Caitlin Clark into an errant pass that turns the ball over. Mühl likely should finish this game out and get some good on-court experience.
#WNBA
Sue Bird on with Peyton and Eli Manning during their Monday Night Football broadcast. They asked her about retirement. Peyton told her don’t let others announce her retirement, retire when she’s ready. She said she was inside CPA & the thought of playing there is VERY tempting.
Evina Westbrook connects on her 1st three-point attempt and scores the first points of her Seattle Storm career. She passed up a three a couple of possessions earlier and Jewell went over to her and told her to shoot. She did this time and knocks it down!

Landing the
#1
overall pick multiple years in a row can completely turn your franchise around. The Seattle Storm did it twice with Lauren Jackson and Sue Bird (01 & 02) and again with Jewell Loyd and Breanna Stewart (15 & 16). Both resulted in two
#WNBA
Championships each. (1/2)
Sue Bird was speaking about her post-basketball life and I asked her about the ESPN show she did with Diana Taurasi and her future with that.

“Seattle has always been my home. I plan on being back unless something crazy happens. We have unfinished business.” - Breanna Stewart on her being a free agent next season.

Ezi Magbegor said Tina Charles approached her before the break and offered to help her with anything she wanted to work on. Mentioned they were working on some rip through and drive moves. Ezi said she was like “Whoa, Tina Charles is teaching me…”

BREAKING: I’ve received confirmation that Breanna Stewart will miss the rest of the regular season for the
#SeattleStorm
due to her left foot injury. She has not been ruled out for the playoffs yet as of this time. A massive blow for the defending
#WNBA
Champions.

I’ve been told I legally need to have 6,000 followers before the next Seattle Storm game on Friday. Help an independent reporter out. RT and give your guy a follow today!

The Seattle Storm will be the 4th overall seed and host the Washington Mystics in Games 1 and 2 in Seattle. Sue Bird is guaranteed to play in front of the Storm fans one more time.

Sue Bird is so funny. She just said today she found out that Kiki Herbert Harrigan’s mother is her exact same age. She was freaking out about it in hilarious fashion. She said it was “Just devastating!” 🤣😂🤣

Jewell Loyd was adamant that media pay attention to what Alysha Clark is doing on the defensive end of the court after holding Arike Ogunbowale scoreless in the 2nd half of tonight’s game. Loyd said Clark doesn’t get the recognition she deserves!
#WNBA
Nika Mühl just forced a traveling turnover with some pressure defense once her player picked up the ball. She was hyped afterward and Jordan Horston gave her a big chest bump.
#WNBA
I really appreciated Natasha Cloud’s candid response here. Coach T had compared this Mystics/Storm series to 2018 and mentioned how he had a really good team but that Seattle was just better overall. The players didn’t want to hear it.

It's a huge pet peeve of mine but please spell Jewell Loyd's name correctly. There are two L's at the end of her first name and one L at the beginning of her last name.
I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone that has followed this account and has supported my work covering the
#WNBA
and the Seattle Storm over the years. I can tell the WNBA game is growing because I’m now over 5,000 followers! Let’s keep growing the game together!
Jordin Canada received a nice ovation from the Storm home crowd when she was announced in the starting lineup for the LA Sparks.

Sue Bird with the open-court steal and races past Delle Donne for two. That's about as animated as Sue gets. You can tell how much this means to her.

Coach Noelle Quinn says that Breanna Stewart and Sue Bird will not play against the Chicago Sky tomorrow. She is giving them some more time to rest and says the team will rely on their depth for this game. Pretty big news for tomorrow’s game!

A fun first day of Seattle Storm training camp! I’m excited for the
#WNBA
season to start. Here is a couple shots of Coach Noelle Quinn talking with rookie Nika Mühl. I’ll be putting out a quick article with some brief notes on the first day of training camp later tonight.
Watching Stewie and Jewell just now. Absolutely heartbreaking. They did everything they could to keep their team alive and keep Sue Bird's career going for another game. They combined for 71 points in this game but didn't get enough help.

Sue Bird was asked which expansion cities she would love to see be added to the league assuming great supportive ownership that’s in it to win it. Bird said Oakland/Bay Area is
#1
and Portland is probably
#2
. She mentioned Toronto could push for
#2
. (Q:

Jordin Canada was waiting for Jewell and Stewie to get done with the media. And Stewie sang a little jingle "Friendships are Forever!" They said it was a little weird to see her in Purple and Gold but it was good to see her.
Becky Hammon should be an
#NBA
head coach. Ideally, with a new Seattle SuperSonics expansion franchise in the next couple of years. I’d rather see that than her take over the Las Vegas Aces or New York Liberty.
Wow, the Seattle Storm Performance Center is something else. Two full basketball courts, full exercise room, massage tables, pools, large locker room, player lounge, championship hall, plus business and coaches’ offices.
#WNBA
Skylar Diggins-Smith just said "This is my last stop in the W." as she's answering a question about coming back from having two kids and building up her performance on the court.
#WNBA
I’m happy to officially announce that I’ve been nominated by the Storm and the
#WNBA
to be one of 46 media members that will vote on the end of season awards this season (MVP, ROY, Coach of the Year, etc.). It is a huge honor and a testament to all the hard work I’ve put in.
Not enough has been talked about NaLyssa Smith. I feel like Rhyne Howard and Shakira Austin have gotten a ton of love (and deservedly so) but Smith hasn't received as much attention. She just put up 21 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks in an 84-80 win over Minnesota.
Nneka Ogwumike is wearing the “Making it Rain” Poncho that is awarded to the player that had a great offensive game. She is the first winner of the award. This may not be the final version of the “Making it Rain” Poncho.
#WNBA
Jewell mentioned that having Noey (Coach Quinn) played a huge role in her re-signing w/ the Storm. She wants to see Noelle have lots of success. Loyd also talked about how it’s important for her nieces to be able to see Noey in a position of power & someone that looks like them.
Gabby Williams answered my question today on whether her working out a deal to play in the
#WNBA
in 2023 gives her hope that she’ll be able to get deals done in future seasons. Her answer was very candid.

BREAKING: The
#SeattleStorm
will once again rest Sue Bird and Breanna Stewart for tomorrow’s game against the New York Liberty. The expectation is that those two will join the team in New York before Friday’s rematch against the Liberty. Jewell Loyd will play tomorrow.
#WNBA
The
@SeattleKraken
gave out their new hockey jerseys/sweaters to some of Seattle’s top athletes in the region. Several
#Seahawks
players were given them. Sue Bird of the
#SeattleStorm
also received one! Seattle’s NHL franchise debuts next month.
Sue Bird mentioned yesterday that N’dea Jones was all over the place in practice (in a positive manner). I asked Coach Dan Hughes about that today, and he said she’s a rebounding machine and he had to challenge the other post players to keep her off the boards. She is competing!
I asked Jewell Loyd if she took more pride in leading the team with 20 points or holding Natasha Cloud to just six points in this game. She had a smirk and replied, “My defense.”
#SeattleStorm
#WNBA
Destanni Henderson had 19 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists in today’s game. I am honestly surprised Seattle didn’t take her when she fell to them at 17. Especially, with Sue Bird talking very highly of her during the National Championship game. I wonder if that’s one they’ll regret.
The Seattle Storm defeat the Phoenix Mercury 82-78. Evina Westbrook came up huge in the 4th quarter of this game, especially in the closing minutes. Some big moments on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Westbrook finished with 15 points, 5 rebs in 17 minutes.
