It’s amazing how liberating the sadistic torture, rape and slaughter of 1500 Jews can be. It really gets the juices going. Now that Hamas has shown how to do it, everyone wants to get in on the fun.

I'm 42. I've never seen such a shift in opinion towards Israel & Palestine in America. The bar is low but the fact so many, especially young people, no longer buy the usual talking points, are aware of the occupation, & actually see Palestinians as humans worthy of freedom - wow!

A group of psychopaths say “We will butcher you and your children.” So you put up a fence. People cry: “You’ve put these poor things in a cage!” Then they break down the fence and butcher us and our children. And people cry: “What did you expect?! You put them in a cage!”

Palestinians were offered a state in 1947, in 1993, in 2000 and in 2008. The only claim the Palestinians had to “concede” was the existence of a Jewish state alongside theirs, on *some* of the Land of Israel. But they couldn’t, because their only cause is Israel’s destruction

Other vanquished peoples have accepted defeat and effectively conceded their claims in the face of overwhelming power. The unusual thing about the Palestinian people is that they did not resign themselves to their defeat. How you feel about this fact then determines a lot. 5/

Leftists’ argument seems to be that the facts are racist and therefore Israel is to blame

Israeli propaganda can afford to be preposterous because racist dehumanization has already done the real work for them. If you accept that Palestinians are irrational and violent (“human animals”) and that Hamas is uniquely barbaric then even the flimsiest lies will do. 1/

@joannachen1 wrote a piece for @GuernicaMag about struggling for empathy. I would have loved to read it — but Guernica’s readers decided publishing it showed too much empathy for Israelis and Guernica memory-holed it. No, they don’t get the irony.

“There was goodwill but not enough to straddle the chasm that divided us.” In Israel, a translator tries to tread the line of empathy. From @joannachen1 's essay “From the Edges of a Broken World.”

This evening on Complete Fucking Nonsense, we'll look at how [checks notes] Black American citizens marching for civil rights is "way more extreme" than decades of Palestinian terror attacks on Israeli civilians and Jews

Identity is no defense to malice. Of course Jews are over-represented in anti-Israel activity. Ruth Wisse explained this best.

To be blunter: I don't think the Jewish advocacy organizations are as interested in protecting actual Jewish students as they are in quashing anti-Zionist speech, even if the anti-Zionist speech comes from Jews themselves

@ZaidJilani At their very worst, the Hagana militias never came close to what was done on Saturday. Retract this, Zaid.

The Jewish religious calendar is carefully calibrated to the land of Israel, and nowhere else. On the last day of Sukkot, which fell in 2023 on 10/7, we begin to pray for rain. We stop praying for rain on Pesach, in two weeks. Today, the last heavy rains of the year fell.

@ZaidJilani @shadihamid @havivrettiggur gets it right — steelmanning is nothing more than understanding your enemy. If Shadi and other Palestinian advocates can’t do that, it makes them considerably weaker.

This is interesting, watching yourself slip away from honest intellectual positions into faith and identitarian advocacy, and feeling it too strongly to want to reclaim that honesty. Lots of people experience it, few do it in full self-awareness that it’s happening. He knows…

An absolutely amazing find by @ShMMor : in The Hague itself a memorial to the Holocaust contains the exact same reference to the Torah claimed by South Africa to be “genocidal” in intent

This may all seem a bit far from today's proceedings at the ICJ in the Hague, but it's not. Walk 20 minutes to the city's Holocaust Memorial and you'll see this poignant bas relief accompanied only by the exact same passage on Amalek in Dutch and Hebrew. Is this genocidal? 9/20

The ideology that makes Palestinian suffering acceptable — indeed, compulsory — is anti-Zionism, which expects Palestinians to suffer and die rather than than make peace with the Jewish State and prioritize their own wellbeing.

Notable that the concept of “anti-Palestinian racism” has never entered the American political lexicon. Amid all the concern about Israeli brutality inciting antisemitism, no one stops to wonder about the ideology that makes Palestinian suffering so acceptable.
