In #LSUvsBAMA , if a receiver is forced out of bounds due to contact by a defender, the receiver can re-establish position on the field and make a legal catch. On the play in question, the ruling on the field was the receiver was forced out of bounds by contact.

By rule, no kicking team player may block an opponent until his team is eligible to touch an on-sides kick. In this situation, since the ball was not touched by the receiving team, the ball would have to go 10 yards before the kicking team is eligible to touch it. (1/2)

It’s important to remember: The down marker on the sideline determines the line to gain for a first down, not the superimposed 'yellow line' you see on the television screen. The digitally-created line can sometimes be inaccurate.

By rule, when defensive holding occurs, the catchability of the pass is not a factor – unlike pass interference. Provided the hold is against an eligible receiver and the pass crosses the line of scrimmage, the offensive team is awarded an automatic first down.
