- Absolutely NO Jumps in the weight room for starters in-season. They are getting that bucket filled from games and practice ❌ - Lower minute players will jump at least x3 a week as part of their development program. Got to keep them ready when called upon! ✅

Deficit lunge: - Be a player not a robot, replicate on court movements, move freely. - Player autonomy - YOU choose how you do the exercise - Every rep will be different - thats what we want!

In-season training clips of starters: - YES, you can and should train heavy in-season with high min players. - Main diff is much lower volume (reps/sets) compared to low min guys - Use exercises they are familiar with, focus on the basics. - Create a fun training environment 👍🏻

Overcoming ISOs has become a mainstay for A series in-season. 3-5 seconds of max effort, Guys are getting enough jumps both sub max and max through practice and games. Don’t want to overload this with more jumps in WR but want to keep working on max force production📈 @FurmanHoops

Elevating the heels in a squat takes out ankle mobility limitations and allows my 6”9 athletes to hit actual depth in any squat. Also allows full VMO development, which is a primary knee stabilizer, and for the athlete to hold an upright posture while squatting. 95lbs - acc phase

In-season training for me is about filling buckets that aren’t being used during the sport competition. For ex, one of my starters has jumped 2,000 times during our first 5 games ( @KinexonSports ), zero velocity work is a must for him and all other high minute players! 🪣

Big fan of jumping chin ups for reactive strength. Skill component to it also, as well as the need for good intent!! Added in a 2 sec pause at the bottom for Alex today, didn’t want any extra momentum for his rebound jump, will be adding this in more now I’ve tried it out.

Variety of training stimulus is key to long term improvements - In-season programs last two weeks before we change up the exercises and rep schemes - Development group do a lot of jump training in the WR in-season. Mix it up, get creative. Here are a few examples of these.

Optional session = autonomy Could be a big misconception around autonomy in the weight room and lack of effort/detail/intensity. From my experience I see the same, if not more effort when the guys choose what they want to do that day. Try it!

Non-conf schedule usually means team lifts before practice. High min/low min/redshirt/inj plans can all work in a group setting. Sheets on the racks, a detailed weight room layout plan and everything already set up is crucial for an efficient session when time is tight.

Ankle mobility - “I’m not usually able to get my toes that high up, I feel the extension” - athletes feedback after doing this warm up. - Orthotics (arch support), soft tissue and fascia treatment, and correct exercise progressions (split squat etc) must be assessed too 🦶👟

What sets an intern/assistant apart when they first start with a program is their initiative. The programming knowledge and coaching experience will come the longer they are with a program/Coach. One thing that will ALWAYS provide value is initiative, I’d rather say whoa then go!

Marcus came in at 17, with a 0 training age, redshirt freshman year, 6.2 to 6.3% body-fat from June 2019 to June 2022. Muscle mass went from 153 to 182lbs. Development!

Variety is the key when training athletes who adapt quickly to your program. I’m a fan of 2 week training blocks, especially when training outliers like @Lamont10Hunter . As he prepares for a pro career, this variety (tempo/ex selection) will ensure new progress and growth.
