We have detected a gas called "phosphine" in the atmosphere of Venus, says @jgreaves6 . This could point to the presence of life in the clouds of Venus. Their study is published in the journal Nature Astronomy and will be free to access today. #VenusNews

Prof Jane Greaves says that the level of phosphine is around 20 parts per billion. Organisms could easily create this amount of phosphine, but they wanted to be really careful and rule out other potential sources of phosphine. #VenusNews

They looked at over 70 different reactions and did a thermodynamic analysis. They could not find any that could create the amount of phosphine that they observed says Dr William Bains. #VenusNews They also looked at rock chemistry, lightning and more - none explained observation.

Cleopatra is a pseudonym for a Greek Egyptian woman from 250 BCE whose real name is lost. She published extensive records of her chemical experiments, including drawings of apparatus, but much of her work was destroyed by the 4th century. #STEMlegends #WomenInSTEM

@sciencecentres Why is Slough significant for the Herschels? Our first president, William Herschel, moved to Slough after taking up his position as the King's Astronomer in 1782. He lived there with his astronomer sister Caroline, while his son John was also born in the town.

40 years ago, Voyager 1 approached #Saturn , becoming the second #spacecraft to flyby. It sent back detailed images and discovered three new moons. 32 years later in 2012, it became the first human-made object to cross the threshold of #interstellar space #astronomy #bicentrivia
