I took my 8-month old to her first game today. I wasn’t aware of
@Vol_Sports
asinine ticketing policy. My baby can fly for free but cannot attend a Vol sporting event without a ticket - something I learned as I was walking in with my child on my hip. Why make it so difficult?
If you hit a woman you shouldn’t have the privilege of representing your university on the football field.
Period.

I’m going to type this slowly so

can understand: Not a s i n g l e Vol fan regrets axing the Schiano hire. Not a s i n g l e one.
The Vols won time of possession, out gained Auburn, didn’t lose the TO battle. The defense allowed just 23 points. Eric Gray averaged almost 9 yards a touch and accounted for 222 yards. The Vols had fewer penalties and penalty yards. And lost by 13.
Current UAB AD Mark Ingram would be a fantastic hire for Tennessee. He literally oversaw the resurrection of their football program. He played at Tennessee. Was an associate/assistant AD here and at Georgia. He’s ready. He knows the politics. He cares. And I think he’d take it.
Butch hire vs. Pruitt Hire
Butch: HC success at non-P5 schools. No major coordinator or SEC experience. Cliche machine.
Pruitt: Elite recruiter. Elite DC. Proven track record in the SEC/ACC. No HC experience. Dynamic personality. Southern accent.
Gimme Pruitt every time.
If Tennessee beats Georgia Saturday I’ll be inclined to think Russia may have sparked nuclear annihilation months ago and we’re actually in heaven right now.
Quit. Blaming. The. Fans. The fans are the reason Tennessee has one of the most profitable athletic departments in the nation - that profit clearly doesn’t come from sound leadership or common sense decision making, just a love of the Volunteers from thousands and thousands.
I’ll give this to Florida and Sun Belt Billy - they didn’t “cramp” every time Tennessee went tempo or strung together a couple big plays. Ole Miss, Pitt and a host of other programs could learn a lesson.
SOURCE: The search is over. Tennessee has its guy. An announcement is planned for tomorrow and the next coach of the
#Vols
will be on campus tomorrow. As to the identity of that coach? That remains unconfirmed.
I saw the rise of the Vols under Fulmer and then the slow decline. Then I spent a number of years covering the program. It’s been decades since I’ve been this confident in the direction of the Tennessee Volunteers.
Tennessee’s long OC search is over. And it ended with a Grand Slam. Chaney is coming back to Rocky Top. Who cares how long it took, Pruitt and Co. nailed it.
Vols were better than Kentucky in the regular season.
Vols were better than Kentucky in the SEC Tournament.
Vols were better than Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament.
I don’t know if yall understand how significant Tennessee’s success under Barnes in Rupp is historically.
I’m almost 37.
Vols had two total wins in Rupp in my life before Barnes took over.
He has four.
Tennessee’s offense since leading at No. 3 Georgia at halftime: fumble, INT, punt, punt, punt, fumble for a touchdown, turnover on downs, end of game, punt, fumble, pick-6, pick-6, interception, TOUCHDOWN !!!, punt, punt, punt, punt, turnover on downs.
These national folks just can’t admit that Tennessee, after considerable revolt, ended up with a better coach, a better fit, a better recruiter and a better person than Greg Schiano.
According to the NCAA, Tennessee committed 18 Level I violations and 200+ violations during the Jeremy Pruitt era.
Approximately $60,000 worth of impermissible benefits found.
Penalties Announced:
-- No postseason ban for Tennessee but $8 million fine
-- 5 years of probation
Refusing to enjoy this basketball team because of what may or may not happen in March is like refusing to enjoy your whole life because you’re eventually gonna die.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk and good morning.
Currie literally thought everything was going as planned. Signed his guy. Was going to announce today and bring him to Knoxville. I cannot imagine being that out of touch and I cannot imagine being as shook as he has to be right now.
Tennessee’s former head coaches:
Jeremy Pruitt - Out of football.
Greg Schiano - 4-8 at Rutgers.
Butch Jones - 3-9 at Arkansas State.
Derek Dooley - Saban’s intern.
Meanwhile, the Vols are headed to at least a top-10 finish nationally.
Beating A&M with a QB throwing for 100 yds is a testament to Heupel’s coaching/system/offense. Not a knock. The Vols being 5-1 heading into the Bama game despite the offense taking a clear step back is a great sign for the longevity of the program. Gotta weather roster turnover.
Sat next to some Bama fans at Stock and Barrel last night. They said everyone was great to them. Gave me a “Go Vols” before they left and said “beat Georgia.”
Which reminds me - Georgia fans are the worst.
The Vols averaged 21.5 points per game last year, 12th in the SEC and 108th nationally.
The Vols are averaging 41.5 point per game this year, 3rd in the SEC and 7th nationally.
What a turnaround by Heupel and Company.
If the Vols win Thursday, Rick Barnes will inarguably be the greatest coach in Vol hoops history. Will be tied for the longest tourney run, first SEC Tourney win since the 70s, longest stay at No. 1 & longest stay in the top 10. Most consistently ranked. Could be a legacy sealer.
I am glad On3 is our partner at KSR but the idea that Will Levi’s is the 7th best QB in the SEC is utterly absurd
But save this tweet and let’s look back on it in November
Text from a good friend: “Something is wrong with my twitter feed. I don’t see where the UT Athletics Department did anything extraordinarily stupid in the past 24 hours...” A new era?
If you thought Tennessee was going 7-5 before the season, you were a total homer (no offense). Terrific job by Heupel, his staff and the players who chose to be here.
I tell you what, I know everyone gets pumped for Florida week but Georgia week was always the biggest one for me post-Spurrier. The reason is simple: Georgia is the ABSOLUTE WORST. Their program has, and I can’t stress this enough, NO redeeming qualities. Settle in for some hate.
In year two Jeremy Pruitt lost back-to-back home games to Georgia State and BYU.
In year two Josh Heupel has Tennessee undefeated headed into the last week of October, ranked No. 3.
Players played great, obviously. But the Vol coaching staff deserves a ton of credit. Backs against the wall. QB issues. Team without a ton of depth. It didn’t matter. They owned an SEC team with an experienced staff and roster. +1 for Pruitt and Company.
In back-to-back weeks the Tennessee Vols handed Brian Kelly his worst home loss as a P5 head coach and scored the most points Alabama has surrendered in 115 years.
“Vols are 8-4. Tennessee should be elite!”
Yes. Historically true. The resources and fans are there. History is there.
But this was last an elite program in the 90s. Elite seasons can happen, but an elite program comes after being consistently good.
Vols are on a good path.
Interesting comment coming from a man who called me into his office and threatened me because I refused to be his mouthpiece.
(Side note: Lots of people were his mouthpiece and still cover the team. Media is beyond broken. Very few care about facts, only audience and power.)
Ohio State abuses Michigan and improbably loses in the B1G Championship Game to a .500 team. TCU loses a game. USC loses. LSU beats UGA. The Playoff is, potentially:
1. UGA.
2. Tennessee.
3. LSU.
4. Alabama.
Maybe it was Vescovi’s crafty steals or assists. Maybe it was a JJJ block. A Zakai step back 3. An Aidoo block. An Awaka rebound. A Gainey scoring spurt. A Knecht assault on the box score. Or a Mashack stop or key bucket.
These Vols have been a joy to watch. Deserving Champs!
I went to the Florida and the Bama games and didn’t experience a single salty Gator or Bama fan afterwards. Kentucky fans were extremely upset last night. Lots and lots of chirping. I guess they really thought they had a chance.
