Congratulations to 30 Squadron, who today began the next chapter of their history by reforming as an A400M Atlas squadron. Special guests were invited to the event including HRH The Princess Royal. Everyone enjoyed a spectacular flypast by the A400M Atlas.

On 30 January, 2005, at 1330 Zulu, XV179, call-sign Hilton 22, a Royal Air Force C-130K Hercules, was shot down during Operation TELIC. Sadly, all crew, and passengers were lost. We will remember them.

Unlike many RAF stations, Brize Norton does not have an aircraft on display as a gate guardian.
Mainly due to any past Brize aircraft being far to big to park at the gate.

The design of the aircraft with its high-lift wing, slats and externally blown flaps (more info to follow) allows it to operate at small, austere airfields.
The C-17 can take off and land on runways as short as 3,500 feet and only 27.4 meters wide

Sqn Bosses Refuel Above the North Sea.
A C-130J, flown by OC 47 Sqn practised air to air refuelling with a Voyager tanker flown by OC 10 Sqn.
OC 47 Sqn was supervised by an instructor from 24 Sqn, who received the coveted Air to Air Refuelling Instructor qualification.

The A400M has counter-rotating propellers which means one goes clockwise and one goes anticlockwise on each wing. This increases air flow over the centre of the wing, which in turn gives better lift and fuel efficiency. β

Snow and ice clearance teams at RAF Brize Norton have worked through the night to ensure the airfield remains open, ensuring that operational and training flights go ahead as planned. They even created a couple of very unusual snowmen!

Why are our aircraft performing touch and goes all over the UK?
