This morning OC BBMF flew out in Spitfire AB910 to greet the

Messerschmitt Foundation Me262 replica ahead of its arrival to RIAT. The Me262 and our spitfire took part in an air to air photography shoot to mark the rare occasion of these two aircraft types flying together!
Everyone at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight would like to wish Squadron Leader George "Johnny" Johnson MBE DFM a very happy 101st birthday! Johnny is the last surviving member of the Dambusters Raid of 1943, and was just 21 years old at the time.
A true hero!
Today we were proud to be a part of the Queens Platinum Jubilee Flypast, celebrating Her Majesty’s historic reign of 70 years. Joining forces with over 70 other aircraft from across the Armed Forces, the flypast was a truly special occasion and it was an honour to take part.
After the sad new that Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Wellum DFC died on Wednesday, we are dedicating this weekend’s flypasts to his memory. The photo shows him with our Mk IIa Spitfire marked in his Battle of Britain 92 Sqn colours. Lest We Forget.

Following a successful commemorative sortie yesterday over Belgium and the Netherlands, we’d like to share footage both from preparations on the ground, and cockpit footage from the Lancaster itself during the special event.
Our crew had the best view of Sally B today, the B-17 Flying Fortress.
Similar to our Lancaster, Sally B is the only remaining airworthy B-17 in Europe! 👀✈️

Last night we flew our sortie to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise.
The skies of Lincolnshire provided the perfect backdrop for the flight, and we’d like to share an inside view from the Lancaster for you to enjoy.

Today is a significant day in the BBMF calendar. The Lancaster bomber and her crew are airborne for a commemorative flight into Belgium and the Netherlands. The flight will total around seven hours of flying whilst conducting fly-pasts over 19 sites across the two countries.
This evening we’ll be taking to the skies to fly over the Lincolnshire Bomber Command bases to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Operation Chastise. We couldn’t be more honoured to provide this flypast to remember the events of the 16th-17th May 1943.
Lest We Forget.
We may not have been a part of this formation, but to close day one of

Battle of Britain Airshow, we couldn’t not show our appreciation to the Warbird Community and this exceptional flypast of Spitfires and Hurricanes!
See you again tomorrow 👋🏻✈️
Today, we had the honour of providing a flypast for the funeral of Captain Sir Tom Moore with the BBMF C-47 Dakota. His legacy carries on with his foundation . Rest in peace, Sir. (Video: Leaving RAF Coningsby this morning.)

We were extremely saddened to learn overnight of the passing of George ‘Johnny’ Johnson.
Johnny was recognised as being the last of the Dambusters, but he was much more than that. He was a man who cherished his family, and our immediate thoughts and sympathy is with them today.
We were lucky to have lovely autumn weather for what may be the last opportunity of this year to carry out Lancaster aircrew training. Photo

A very exciting day! The BBMF have gained their Public Display Authority, so we're set for the season. More imagery coming soon.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of Operation Chastise, commonly known as the Dambusters Raid. We are pleased to announce that on the 16th May 2023, our Lancaster will be flying a special route over all Bomber Command bases in Lincolnshire to commemorate the anniversary.
Congratulations to Flt Lt Andy Preece on his MBE! As the BBMF Operations Officer, Andy is one of only two pilots who are full time on the Flight. As well as his flying duties, he plans the flying programme which can include close to 1000 aircraft movements over the season alone.

Happy 100th birthday to Battle of Britain Hurricane pilot Archie McInnes! Here he is last July, enthralling BBMF personnel with his explanation of how he managed to get back to flying Hurricanes after losing his left arm during a battle over Egypt.
We’re very sorry to say that due to the temperatures today, PZ865 has reached her temperature limits and will be unable to conduct her planned flypasts this afternoon. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause, but we have to look after our lovely lady!
