For those who question the value of psychedelics worth remembering that Covid19 testing relies on PCR a technique that Kary Mullis invented as a result of an LSD trip -and for which he got the Nobel prize. Harrison, Ann (January 16, 2006). "LSD: The Geek's Wonder Drug?". Wired.
A sad day: my longtime friend and colleague Roland Griffiths died last night after a long battle with cancer during which he showed the inspiring courage and wisdom that characterised his whole career, especially in resurrecting psychedelic research. A truly great scientist.
banning nitrous oxide because of littering with whippits is as daft as banning alcohol because people discard cans and bottles. Disproportionate & dangerous - will lead to use of bigger canisters w more gas. A better option is to 10 p for every whippit returned

Such a bad public health policy. One billion people will die this century from tobacco – mostly cigarettes- If all switched to vaping estimated deaths would be less than 5% - so 50 million – a saving of 950 million deaths.

If you are eligible to vote then please do today. If we want better drug laws we must escape from the current prohibitionist Tory policies - both Labour and Libdems have promised improvements. Thanks
UK government drug advisors recommend decriminalisation. They get ignored.

Unusual and challenging start to the day! Up at 4am to give evidence to the Indonesian Constitutional Court on why they should reschedule cannabis for medical use. Many good questions from the Judges which we were able to answer so hopefully they will change the law
@drug_science
The problem is Rosie that alcohol is linked to about 25000 deaths a year and nitrox to 2. I know which I prefer my children to be taking. And if u dislike the litter of whippits then how about a 10p reward for each one returned?

@ProfDavidNutt
Seriously one of the creepiest things I've experienced on this platform, have you genuinely nothing better to do with your time..?! Fyi, I barely drink much alcohol at all, have no clue what point you think you're making.
Can you imagine having written over 1000 original research papers, reviews and book chapters, 27 books and eight government reports on drugs? 😮 Prof David Nutt has been ranked the

more importantly his headmaster did not expel him when he was caught with cannabis - so allowing him to finish at Eton and go to Oxford. I trust he will argue the same treatment be given to all students from now on - as exclusions destroy life chances
@Drug_Science
The new Home Secretary has admitted smoking cannabis in his youth. Will this affect his approach to drug laws, or will he continue the hypocrisy of his colleagues and predecessors and support criminalising young people for doing the same as he did?
The hypocrisy is appalling . For CBD their recommended safe dose is one hundredth of safe dose and for alcohol one hundred TIMES the safe dose. Where is the science in that?
Vindicated at last! See

major breakthrough in S Africa - the Constitutional Court makes cannabis legal for personal use. I hope my 10 days in the court last August helped with this decision. Time for UK to follow suit?

Just realised that most people don’t know that there are more receptors for cannabis in the brain than there are for dopamine serotonin and noradrenaline combined. These are likely target for cannabis oil treatment for epilepsy read more in my book

the Home Office rejection of another well qualified expert for political reasons shows they have learnt nothing in the decade since my sacking. Surely now time to vest drug policy in the dept of health who at least understand the meaning of evidence

So the gov looking to reduce cigarette harms by increasing age to buy. But does this make sense as most dependent smokers start up to 8 years before they can buy! what we need are EVIDENCE-BASED POLICIES SUCH AS SNUS WHICH HAS ALMOST ELIMINATED SMOKING IN SWEDEN ...

This mirrors that seen after decriminalisation of cannabis in Holland. There are several reasons 1. Age validation for purchase 2. Less black market pressure to recruit users 3. Less exciting now its legal and 4. [possibly] Better quality drugs so less addiction

"No, let's have a proper review."
