After getting my shot, I conscientiously moved my arm for a good 2 hours (like they told me to) before realizing it was the wrong arm🤦‍♀️ On a more serious note, I cried (happy tears) when a volunteer asked me how my day's going. So grateful for light at the end of this tunnel! 🥳

We pair a theoretical model with a field experiment w/a near-universe of US school principals & find: 1. Mothers are called first 1.4 times more than fathers🧐 2. Even when fathers strongly signal their availability, mothers still get 26% of the calls😳 3. Mechanisms? 3/5

Can formal leadership structure reduce disparities in influence? YES! Halfway through the study, we randomly assign a team leader & find that the gender of the leader make a BIG difference. Female leaders improve women's influence, male leaders make things slightly worse. 6/n

If both parents are listed equally as contacts, mom is 1.4 times more likely to get a call than dad. Even when dad is listed as the designated contact & the more available parent, mom still got 26% of the calls.

We find that male-majority teams accord disproportionately less influence to women and are less likely to promote women. When women are in the minority, they experience a striking deficit across multiple (incentivized & not) of measures influence. 3/n

Why can’t we move *all* first round interviews to Skype??? Multiple benefits: 1) less travel expense for candidates/faculty 2) no more seedy hotel suite interviews 3) no more interviewing tired, stressed candidates 4) no need to go to cities in the polar vortex in January

By randomizing the content of recruiting materials of a major financial firm, we find that signaling explicit interest in employee diversity more than doubles the interest in openings among racial minority candidates, the likelihood that they apply and are selected.

I don’t like the term “work-life balance” because it implies “balance” is something we can achieve and then be set. Instead, I recognize there are lots of things I want to do - some for work and some personal. I focus on budgeting my time in a way that I feel happy with each day.
