@ThanksCancer Currently on sick leave for chemo but I made it back for about 3 months of teaching in between chemo blocks. It’s weakened me a lot this time round but hoping for a few good months and another comeback!

@TheCancerSutra I’m getting most of this just through chemo cycles! Even on the good days where everything seems physically, mentally and emotionally fine, there’s still the ongoing process of coming to terms with the fact I’m dying of cancer. I think the volatility is what I resent most.

Cancer is giving me a real beating today and now I can’t avoid it in the news. But this really needs to be said: Please can we just let cancer patients reveal what they’re ready to say and not hound them? Even the highly privileged royal ones are people and not public property.

Eg with bowel cancer, the 5 year survival rate for stage 1 is around 90%. For stage 4, it’s 10%. Take your screening tests. If something is wrong, get it checked. YOU CAN AVOID ENDING UP LIKE ME.

Turn up to your appointments, no matter how inconvenient. Return the FIT test you got in the post. This is why. My cancer was discovered through symptoms, not screening and, in my case and so many others, that is just too late. Please be proactive and don’t end up like me.

Personal news. Last month I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a huge shock, but thanks to the NHS Breast Screening Programme it was diagnosed early, and I should make a full recovery. More ⬇️. 🩷

@johncosgrove405 @OonaghKelleher Agreed. Corporate machines - by definition - don’t care. But on a personal level, I’d argue the recent ‘consultation’ questionnaire would look very different if those at the top had real compassion for hardworking teachers and were genuinely ready to listen.

This didn’t make the edit I’m unlikely to again be judged by OFSTED. Even if I am, what’s the worst that can happen? Will a team of inspectors sit on my memorial bench in the playground and tell my grieving family that I was found to be ‘inadequate’? Go ahead, make my afterlife.

I’m not a fan of ofsted either (see metro piece) but this is unbecoming of this office of state. Wonder if it breaks the ministerial code? Rather than punching inspectors, could she utilise her powers to disband the inspectorate and start again, preferably with kindness?!

The stage 1 survival rate is 90%. The stage 4 death rate is 90%. Amongst those eligible, only two 3rds of bowel screening tests are returned.

Wow they’re getting desperate now. It cannot be too clearly it too often stated that private schools neither need tax breaks nor deserve them. And this doesn’t apply to SEND schools anyway. I won’t live to see them banned a la Finland, but this will be a decent step towards that.

It’s really annoying me to hear people bemoaning that there are so many people ‘on the sick’ when they could be working. Like I chose to have a nice cushy little excuse for a sick note like, say, terminal cancer.

@Philcastang It’s amazing to read this. Only 2/3rds of screening tests are returned. The stage 1 five year survival rate is 90%, which is about the same as the stage 4 DEATH rate. If this is caught up late, you end up like me!
