A fact about Rwanda's genocide has always stuck with me: the ruling party caused much of the killing simply by going on the radio and telling ethnic Hutus that ethnic Tutsis must be killed (along with Hutus who disapproved). Many people listened, and dismembered their neighbors.

@NPRinskeep My problem with NPR is that it's 90% identity politics. I'm tired of race and gender issues being conflated with class issues. NPR self-censors to avoid offending wealthy donors. Just like the Democratic party!

Days ago, the president’s staff was insisting Vindman hadn’t been punished, only reassigned.

In memo to staff, @NPR standards editor says it is now necessary to say “shithole” on the radio so that listeners know the day’s news, but preceded by a warning to listeners, and “no more than one use of the word each hour in the main shows is enough.”

Email: "Good Morning Steve! Just a note to say what a smug smart ass, race baiting, queer loving piece of shit you are.... Have a nice day punk" Thanks for your view! It was sent after our talk with the gay black man who painted Obama's portrait. I'd gladly talk with him again.

Why does the president keep insulting a dead man? Mark Salter, friend and writing partner for the late John McCain, tells @rachelnpr he can't say: "I'm not a child psychologist." @MorningEdition @npr

The inaugural poem by ⁦ @TheAmandaGorman ⁩ is out as a book March 30. When it reached my house a kid said: “I read that several times. We read it in school.” Also recalled the inauguration, how Gorman said certain words. Then she asked to see the book, and read it again.

Proud to serve the taxi drivers and college professors. And soldiers and farmers - 99 million Americans who pay attention to the world. Even critics. Once interviewed a Congressman who criticized NPR, then started talking of an NPR story he’d heard that morning that moved him.

Ok, Politico. NPR is “An outlet that Trump allies mock as the preferred listening station of liberal college professors and taxi drivers” ...and many other people with radios?

Guide to upsetting election stories: 1. Wait before sharing. 2. People want to manipulate you. 3. What's the source? 4. Is it a news org with editors? 5. Looks big on Twitter, but is it just a local incident? 6. Repeat #1 . Anything truly important will still be there in an hour.

Thanks. My job isn’t to say negative or positive things. It’s to say true things. Economy up? We report it. POTUS makes a false claim about the economy? We call it. Someone criticizes or defends him? We listen, ask real questions and call out errors. Every other official? Same.

President Trump has been able to appeal to journalists’ “own narcissism” by attacking them, says Jon Stewart. “They take it personally, and now he’s changed the conversation to, not that his policies are silly or not working … it’s all about the fight.”

Dropped off my daughter to eat with friends, and lingered to be sure she was okay. My car door opened; a woman with a bag of food climbed in out of the rain, shut the door and started talking before she realized it was the wrong car. Totally fine! Happy to be among people again.

Dad, you interviewed the Lumineers? Yes. You like them! Yes. Is it cool to interview people whose music you like? Yes. I’ve done that a few times. Like who? I don’t know, I interviewed Elton John once. Bruce Springsteen. Have you ever interviewed anyone I would actually know?
