Ontario can reach greatness, but it refuses to. It has the ingredients:
1. broadly Pro-Nuclear energy
2. Likes technocratic policy > ideology
3. Truly diverse & inclusive, by default, able to integrate the best foreign talent with ease
4. Only exporter of Waterloo interns

Honestly the more i see these people the more they remind me of catholicism. They'd shame you and guilt you but also presented themselves as the solution to that shame and guilt. It's a ploy to get their audience to need them more.
Unrelated, but also not. I don't want to lose sight of the broader racism and hate crimes towards East Asians this week. This woman in San Fran was attacked in a hate crime, & her son has set up a GoFundMe to help her recover from the trauma. Pls donate:

heads up folks, the people of Myanmar have woken up, and the folks that do manage to have some type of internet access are very, very unhappy with this professor

The problem police unions don't understand is that the thin blue line is a loud and clear message to the public that they serve and protect their own before they serve the public. It says that if a cop breaks the public trust, they will protect them rather than protect the public

Bonnie Crombie wants to force four-storey buildings in every neighbourhood. She thinks she knows better than every single mayor.
I believe in working WITH mayors to build the right homes in the right places and rewarding them for their success. That’s how you get it done.
new NIMBY goalpost just dropped from famed Canadian author Margaret Atwood before we can build new housing in Loblaws CEO Galen Weston's neighbourhood:
✅ new housing should double as power generation plants
Urban residents pay far more in taxes in Ottawa than it costs to service them because downtown exists as a cash cow to shovel into the rural and suburban money pit because they pay far less in taxes than it costs to service them. The dynamic here is completely backwards.
I want to make sure that rural residents feel included in the decisions we make as a city. You should not feel like people in downtown Ottawa are deciding how you should operate your farms or live your lives or that your unique needs are being overlooked.

Even the aristocracy of the YIMBY movement have this insanely naive, evidence-free view of how housing markets work. People who actually value property as an investment do not use the “guy in bar” logic prevalent in these odd circles. Utterly weird phenomenon. Half life: 2 years.

The Liberals should focus on abundance, and clearing the way for abundance.
Embrace supply-side liberalism, focus on outcomes for all Canadians, and leave the NDP and Tories to fight the American Culture War.
@CP24
Pretty weird of them to critique residential schools in Canada as a tool of cultural genocide after building residential schools of their own for the purposes of cultural genocide
Not sure what point they are trying to prove here
Doug Ford didn’t get it done.
Blatant NIMBYism has ruled the day.
Ontario’s conservatives are not builders, they’re gatekeepers.
The housing crisis will ruin Ontario.

Greens: Here's a housing bill.
Liberals: Here's an even more rad housing bill.
NDP: Here's a non-committal op-ed that tries to take credit from the work being done in a faraway province.
I think the NDP lost the memo on the "policy arms race". A-tpyical uselessness youd expect.

Canada, and especially Alberta, needs to legalize municipal political parties.
The false "nonpartisan" elections we have across most of Canada have been the greatest subsidy ever to wacko progressive council and mayoral candidates.

this is funny because LCBO is actually the single largest buyer of alcohol on earth. It enables a selection that simply does not exist in US liquor stores. I can think of better TN whiskey available there lmao
You don't have to like lcbo but they're good at what they do!
One of the many things I love when I'm in the US is having a bourbon that’s not available in our socialized LCBO here in Ontario. This time the bartender at the Watergate Hotel in DC recommended this amazing Tennessee whiskey which is mellow and smooth but so full of flavour.…

Does he not understand economic policy? Is this why he only focuses on the culture war and porn passports?

Conservatives have focused all their housing criticism on British Columbia, of all places.

NEW: Ontario Housing Minister
@PaulCalandra
’s spox on today’s housing announcement says Ont. open to collaborating with feds, “However, we know that local municipalities know their communities best and don't believe in forcing them to build where it doesn’t make sense.”
The two men who have doubled housing costs and made Vancouver the world’s 3rd most overpriced city are “working together in collaboration” to inflate costs further.
My common sense plan cuts the bureaucracy to build the homes.
Sign if you agree the rent is too high:…
The Canadian Economy is bullshit for young people.
A substantial decline in living standards between generations is occurring. The ladder of opportunity pulled up for everyone without family money. It’s horrible.

Appreciate your reply MP Mclean, even if I disagree on zoning reforms.
Can you also speak to your party's position in Bill C-356 and why your party supports raising the HST on new Purpose-Built Rental developments? Even Trudeau has gone further and cut the HST to 0% for all PBR
@NMBCanada
@cafreeland
@PierrePoilievre
Are you saying that taxpayers should be funding a tax rebate on housing that is above-market rent? That is a big difference between Lib & CPC policy - we support tax breaks for affordable, lower-income housing, not costly high-rent units. Am I reading your point correctly?
Tories coping with Liberals building more homes, because to them this is only about playing the game and not about actually building more homes.
Imagine being as whipped by your gf's boss as Brian is.
Trudeau is defending holding back infrastructure funding from provinces who won’t do what he says on housing. Funny thing, when Pierre Poilievre said he’d do this with municipalities who wouldn’t build housing, Liberals howled with outrage at the idea.

You can't trust Tories to build, look at how NIMBY Tories across Canada negatively polarize against building more homes the second a Liberal has a serious plan that gets NIMBYs out of the way, upzones 4plexes everywhere, and ensures we build near transit and universities.
This is flatly incorrect and needs to be pointed out:
YIMBYs regularly show up to local planning meetings asking to make dwelling units larger. Rat cages are currently *mandated* by cities via floorspace index rules. Only YIMBYs are fighting to make high density units *LARGER*
@NMBCanada
The problem I have is that YIMBYs don't push for housing that they intend to live in.
They demand that everyone else live in smaller high density housing while they live in large spacious single family homes that go up in value as more high density homes are built.
Emanoil Theodorescu's union
@cupe3903comms

Hopefully they and

The impolite take is if Alberta approved the Peace River Nuclear power plant in like 2011 instead of being NIMBYs because nuclear might compete with oil and gas... they would never have this problem.
@GregMcLeanYYC
@cafreeland
@PierrePoilievre
Trudeau has put forward a comprehensive waiver reducing HST to 0% on all PBR builds, but Bill C-356 changes this so the waiver will only apply for a small sliver of builds. In Metro Vancouver, an identical policy to C-356 has applied to 0 builds. Why support a massive HST hike?
Based on the absolute tire fire

It's worth noting that when it comes to Jamil's priorities:
Criticizing Ford's government for not building housing? Silence
Criticizing Ford's government over lockdowns four years ago? RAGE!
Tory vitriol comes hardest for the YIMBYs who want to build more homes.
You can't trust Tories, they only know how to play the partisan game.
That's why they want to raise the HST on new homes, Trudeau cut it to 0% and they want to own the libs.
A lot more ppl than wanted you to be Mayor of Vancouver during your embarrassing election!

Do the people of Toronto know that they could literally just occupy these new condo towers that are mostly empty and demand that the province expropriate them? This is a possible thing that can be, and has been done.
Tories openly campaigning on NIMBYism. They want to pad their bottom line on backs of next generation
When will YIMBY Tories remove the gatekeepers in their midst?
Only Liberals want more homes. Biggest obstacles to building today? Doug Ford, Danielle Smith, & Pierre Poilievre

In light of a proposed development cost charge increase by Metro Van, I‘ve postponed today’s announcement of Housing Accelerator Fund deals with 2 cities who are members of the Metro Van board.
We’re studying the impacts of this proposal and I hope to have more to say soon.
After 8 years of Trudeau's inflationary spending, housing costs have never been higher. And housing starts are predicted to fall this year.
Common sense Conservatives will build homes, not bureaucracy, to bring homes you can afford.
Justin Trudeau is not worth the cost.
