There are times that House of Commons Committees achieve really important things just by choosing to hold hearings on an issue and having the Canadian public focus on it. Hearing Jewish students from across Canada talking about antisemitism on campus today is an example of this.
Today I was asked about the City of Ottawa’s decision to cancel its Israel Independence Day ceremony. It was a bad decision that should be reversed. Please watch my response.
The most difficult place to be a Jewish Canadian is on university campuses. Today we held a press conference where Jewish students from across the country told their stories. Tomorrow hearings at the Justice Committee begin.
I am very disappointed in the decision made by the City of Ottawa. Nobody should be allowed to scare people into canceling an Israel Independence Ceremony. Add security, take precautions. Do not simply cancel the event. I ask Ottawa to reconsider.

On Thursday the Justice Committee begins our study on antisemitism focused on university campuses. I proposed the study because of deeply disturbing and painful stories I have heard from students, faculty & staff across Canada. This week their voices will be heard in Parliament.
The glorious almost 2000 years of Jewish history in Thessaloniki Greece ended with the murder of 95% of its Jewish community in the Holocaust. Today I spoke at the
#YomHashoa
assembly at Herzliah High School which focused on the Shoa in Thessaloniki.

Every Canadian should watch this video. This speech in its entirety and these words in particular are the ones that needed to be said by the leader of our country. Zionism is not a dirty word!

"In a country like Canada, it should be and it must be, safe to declare oneself a Zionist - Jewish or not. Zionism is not a dirty word or something anyone should be targeted for agreeing with.…

No rational person can look at the results of the
@bnaibrithcanada
audit (and the results announced last week by
@AJCGlobal
) and deny that antisemitism is exploding across North America and Europe. Jewish communities feel unsafe & these numbers explain why.
Today, as B'nai Brith Canada launched its Annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, we unveiled a sobering truth: in 2023, there were a staggering 5791 incidents of antisemitism, marking a chilling 109% surge from the previous year's 2769 cases. This is more than double the previous…
As
#YomHaShoah
approaches it is important to note the practice of the Iranian regime of denying and distorting the Holocaust. This is the regime that together with its terrorist proxies Hamas and Hezbollah ferments hate against Jews around the world.
On this day, we solemnly remember the six million Jews who were systematically and senselessly murdered during the Holocaust. Watch Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s message on Yom HaShoah:
Great to be at Saint Kevin’s tonight with Father Andrew and a full house at the Mother’s Day Dinner/Dance sponsored by the Catholic Women’s League and the Knights of Columbus.
The United Pilipino Seniors in my riding received almost $25,000 under our federal New Horizons program. They used some of the funds to buy computers to help teach seniors digital literacy and how to avoid scams. Great to join them tonight.
Today the Quebec legislature once again preemptively used the notwithstanding clause. A friendly reminder. You may not care how it is used in one case but you will care when it is used the next time to unreasonably infringe on a right you care about.
Full capacity of over 300 people for my Anthony’s assembly town hall meeting in Mount Royal tonight.
Ce soir, la salle était pleine. Plus de 300 personnes ont assisté à mon assemblée publique à Mont-Royal.
