The background graphics from NES DuckTales 2 (especially this rope) are an impressive example of how composite video can help to create a whole that’s more than the sum of the separate components that you get with RGB.
Sorry for the waiting guys!
Mike provided me the newest Retrotink 4K and I am blown away by the CRT-Masks & scanlines! 🥹
What do you think?

Greenville doesn't need more luxury apartments for students. It needs more affordable apartments for students. Expensive luxury apartments contribute to the student debt crisis and promote unrealistic expectations for the lifestyle that one should be able to afford at that age.
I considered canceling class for the rest of the semester and just giving every student an A, but if I did that then I'd have to change my Twitter handle to UNCProfessor.
I am a digital archaeologist who aims to discover and appreciate composite video artifacts that were part of the original gaming experience but are lost in the transition to newer technologies.
I sure hope this semester gets better. In the 1st month we’ve had a student run-in w/ a bus, a student bit by a snake, people getting shot uptown, a weather-delayed football game that we lost, & a devastating hurricane. Hard to imagine things getting worse. At least we beat UNC.
Putting
@ECUChancellor
on administrative leave for going downtown and socializing and with students and members of the community is like suspending Walt Disney for riding roller coasters with park guests. It’s asinine.

Students: Please stop viewing this storm as a blessing because you’re excited that classes will probably get cancelled. This storm is likely to cause an extraordinary amount of suffering and property damage. Many will lose their lives and homes. It’s not like a fun snow day.
Some people still fail to recognize that Chancellor Dan was actually the victim in this thing. Do these claims of “He should have known better than to be at that place at that time” sound familiar at all? It’s ludicrous. He should be able to go where he wants when he wants to.
Chancellor Dan should be reinstated because he was doing great things for ECU. In a short time he effectively connected with students, faculty, & staff and brought fresh positive energy to the campus community. More importantly, he’s a good person & deserves to be treated fairly.

hate it when you refer to ECU
as Eastern Carolina University.
I don’t have time to post much right now about the fact that Chancellor Dan resigned but since just want to say that I’m stunned, devastated, and angry.
If you’re in college and you’re stirring up high school-level drama, you need to stop. Mind your own business. Don’t start drama. If someone else starts drama do your best to stay out of it. Go to class & study so that you can graduate & start your career. That’s why you’re here.
Had a student email me to ask for clarification on a topic at 1 AM, sent a detailed response just before 4 AM, and received a reply thanking me for my help a few minutes later. It’s nice to know that neither of us have healthy sleep schedules.
It never fails. The governor of North Carolina has declared a state of emergency, weather forecasters are urging people in Eastern NC to brace themselves for the worst storm in decades, and
@ECUalert
is over here like
R.I.P. Allison Forsythe. She was going to finish her master's degree in counselor education at East Carolina University this semester. She took a plane ride for the first time in her life last Friday and died when it crashed.
The moral of the story is: “Even if you’re great at your job, if the wrong people don’t like you then you might be smeared, investigated (without ever being accused of breaking any rules or laws), and forced to resign.”
The side roads are icy, the water and gas mains are rupturing from extreme cold, the pipes in people’s apartments are freezing, and the Tar River is frozen over. But I guess I’ll see you in class tomorrow.
Six years ago today ECU student Jimmy Callaway unintentionally triggered a campus-wide lockdown when security officers mistook his umbrella for a rifle while monitoring surveillance footage.

I don’t know what the freshmen who are moving in to the West End dorms this week will think of the food in the dining hall but I do know that they’ll love Ms. B.
Classes are canceled for the remainder of this week and a mandatory evacuation has been issued for 5 p.m. tomorrow. Please check your UNCW email account and UNCW website for additional information.
When head ECU football coach Ruffin McNeill was fired around this time in 2015, his record for the prior 3-year period was 23 wins & 15 losses, including two bowl games, one of which we won. Coach Mo’s record over the past three years was 9 wins & 26 losses, with no bowl games.
To the folks who say “it doesn’t matter that sheriff-elect Paula Dance is a Black woman”: It SHOULDN’T. However, Black people & women DO get discriminated against. She likely faced challenges during her life & career that men & White folks didn’t have to face. So yes, it matters.
Hey
@WhitBabcock
. Our school is about to be at the epicenter of the worst natural disaster that our state has ever experienced so you should really cut us some slack. We promise that you’ll get another chance to be defeated by us at some point in the future.
VA Tech AD Whit Babcock about ECU cancelling the trip to VT: “We certainly understand the need for safety, of course, we just felt that tomorrow, making the decision then, would’ve been more responsible and accurate. We informed ECU of this multiple times."
I just found out that UNC Chapel Hill gave students five days off this semester called “Wellness Days.” They got two 4-day weekends and one 3-day weekend to make up for the fact that they didn’t get a Spring Break. Honestly feeling a bit cheated right now.
The “you teach at ECU so you shouldn’t have high expectations for your students” mentality makes me sick. You Pirates are capable of achieving amazing things. I work hard for you and I hope that you’ll work hard for me, too.
Chancellor Dan has now been on academic leave for 3 weeks. Two and a half weeks ago a reliable eyewitness publicly stated that he did nothing inappropriate. I really wonder what's taking the investigators so long to wrap up this important matter.

It’s interesting seeing college students react to quarantine accommodations. They seem to really dislike not being free to choose where they can live, what they can eat, & how many possessions they can have. I wonder if they realize that this is a sample of life under socialism.
Many young people would be better off if they didn’t attend college. Higher ed is only one of many paths to a happy & prosperous life, and it doesn’t even guarantee that outcome. Belief that attending college right after high school is the ONLY road to success can be problematic.
Honestly, this year has been such a nonstop string of disappointments that at this point I’ve just stopped getting emotionally invested in most things. 🤷♂️
I really miss teaching in-person classes. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of enthusiastically communicating mind-blowing information to a classroom full of students and then seeing this:

NES fans: I highly recommend this translation patch for the original Japanese version of Contra. You’ll get graphical enhancements, a map, story, and cutscenes, all of which were cut from the US release. It’s now my favorite way to play this classic game!
Looking to sublease the 30 seats in my classroom that are empty on days when there's not an exam. Free wifi & lectures. No pets, no smoking. Intermittent heat & AC.

I try to follow back anyone affiliated with ECU (students/faculty/staff) by following anyone with “ECU” in their bio or is following many people who I already follow. If you’re a member of the ECU community who slipped through the cracks & wants a follow-back, favorite this tweet

Apartment complexes that didn’t pay a service to plow the snow out of their parking lots, resulting in those lots now being covered in a sheet of ice, are irresponsible and greedy.
The year is 2035. Greenville has no more grocery stores as all food is delivered from Amazon Grocery via drones. ECU is seeking a replacement hover bike rental service. The store in Bate is still out of scantron forms.
I apologize for my old tweets from years ago that have come to light. I used to harbor an irrational hatred of boneless wings and ranted that they weren’t “real wings”. I’ve learned the error of my ways and now recognize that all wings are delicious & deserve a spot at the table.
One thing that really blows my mind about these student apartment pics/videos is that I used to clean the heck out of apartments when I moved out to try to get my deposit back. I practically left them move-in ready.
I have 3 things to say to those who are clowning & saying that
#Florence
was “overhyped” because Greenville wasn’t wiped off the map:
1) It’s better to be overprepared than underprepared.
2) Hindsight is 20/20.
3) The Tar River is still rising and will continue to do so for days.
Summer 2019: I discover that students have posted all of my quiz questions on Quizlet so I spend many hours rewriting them.
Fall 2019: Students post my rewritten questions on Quizlet.
Spring 2020: Fair enough. No more quizzes. Good luck with the new in-class essay tests.
