There are no words that can capture our shock and grief this evening. For now, we will simply say, to our friends at UNCC and to our students and employees with ties to the Charlotte area: We are with you.
At a campus vigil this evening, students Nick Pianovich and Bowman McCoy, both of whom hail from the Charlotte area, led the assembled crowd in expressing their support for our UNCC family. This is what Seahawks do.
Hoping our students & employees have fared well so far. We will remain closed until we can access campus to assess damage. We expect to announce a date after this wknd. We'll offer as much notice as possible. Stay strong, Seahawks.
It’s 2038. You visit your kid at UNCW. Geese rule the campus and sit upon the Iron Throne. Bare feet are required and shoes are forbidden. You check the schedule for the underground shuttle to the beach. Everyone is wearing teal. You hug Sammy and high five Sammy Jr. All is well.
Classes are canceled for the remainder of this week and a mandatory evacuation has been issued for 5 p.m. tomorrow. Please check your UNCW email account and UNCW website for additional information.
All of the bittersweet feelings. To celebrate their graduation day, here's a flashback of the Class of 2019 just four short years ago at their freshman convocation. 😭😍👩🎓👨🎓🙌🥳😢
Thank you, Amy Wright, for changing this community for the better, for providing us an inspiring reminder and example of anyone's ability to change the world, and for representing Wilmington as a Hero. Congratulations!
DORIAN UPDATE: Full update was just emailed to campus and is available on FB, but the bottom line is that by 12p tomorrow, we will announce whether classes will be canceled or delayed on Tuesday. It's too soon to tell about impacts on rest of week. Doing our best!
ALERT: UNCW has issued a mandatory campus evacuation for all students, effective at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Students must evacuate campus beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, and must leave campus no later than 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11. -
Dorian update: As expected, authorities indicate that confidence in being able to predict the storm's path is still low. We're several days out from any possible impacts here in Wilmington, but expect to have more solid info tomorrow. Hang in there, Seahawks!
Twenty years ago today, the UNCW clocktower chimed for the first time. Standing tall in the heart of campus (and in the hearts of our Seahawks!) for two decades, it has served as a reminder that you're running a *bit* late to class, or as a reminder that you're at your home away
Seahawk Family: Initial campus assessments are underway. We expect to have more info late this afternoon & will share it *immediately.* We promise *at least* 24 hrs' notice in advance of normal operations/classes resuming. Thx for your patience. See homepage for full msg!
Seahawks, please see your campus email: Residence halls reopen SUNDAY at 12 p.m.; classes resume Monday; and employees should report for work on Monday as scheduled. We can't wait to have you back!
We will never forget where we were when we heard the news. It didn't seem real...and then it was all too real, and our countless Seahawk Nation hearts broke as one

Being in a wheelchair and without the use of his hands after a diving accident, Ryley Hopper had to adapt. But, with a determination to succeed - and help from family, his fraternity brothers and UNCW faculty and staff - he's set to graduate this weekend.
And just like that, we have 2,300 new alumni! We are so proud of all of our graduates and we can't wait to see what's next for you. This is just the beginning!
Did you know that when Wilmington College first began in 1947, a gallon of gas cost 15 cents, Goodnight Moon was published and the top holiday gift was a pogo stick?

We are hearing you. In part: "We stand firmly against... expressions of hatred. We cannot and will not ignore them. The university is reviewing all options in terms of addressing the matter." Full statement here.
