So... I’m tweeting at 4.24am... I’ve been awake for an hour already. Our DAUGHTER, our baby girl that we’ve loved ‘to the moon and back’ for 26 years is getting married today and I’m so incredibly excited!
Personal post…My mum has died. She was the most amazing woman. Adjectives people describe her as include loving, compassionate, empowering and inspirational. Being her daughter is a privilege. Arranging her funeral has more pressure than arranging my own wedding…
When will it be ok to say - ‘parents, do better for your children’? Children aren’t ‘lucky’ to have parents who read to them or teach then how to use a toilet. We must find a way to stop education being responsible for the shortfall of parents. We need a culture shift in this one
Popped up in my memories... it was 10 years ago today that I was told by a senior leader in the school I was at that a career in teaching probably wasn’t for me. I’m so glad I took absolutely no notice! I’d quite like to have a chat with them now :)
New job. New team. New stuff to teach. New kids. New systems. New ‘long’ journey to school. New classroom. New computer. New data. New just about everything. I know this feeling of uncertainty will pass, so I’m just going to

to myself! My best is good enough.
@adamboxer1
My husband and I just discussed emails over lunch (He’s a project manager for an international company). He says - ‘you’re a highly paid, intelligent adult - you don’t need your organisation, or others to police when you send/respond to emails’.
Did I really just hear ‘Guys, we’ve got an interview with a woman, so please be respectful’.

One of my proudest achievements: 1st Class Hons in History and RS, from the Open University, completed in 3 years, whilst working 30 hours as a TA, and having 4 children under 10… I’ve never worked harder
Yesterday - totally overwhelmed. Worked too hard. Too many hours. Expected too much of myself. Today. I did the work thing better. I started work later. I took some time off this afternoon. And then worked a bit more tonight. We have to find ways to work well for the long haul.
I’ve just finished reading
@Strickomaster
Education Exposed’ - ‘Poor behaviour is kryptonite to the knowledge rich curriculum’. As someone known for good behaviour management.. pin drop silence (at times) and joyous laughter at others - It’s made me reflect on ‘that class’1/10
Totally delighted to have passed first Masters assignment
@TheNCE_
Learned lots and applied lots to my school. It (and I) have changed because of my learning. I’ve submitted part one of Assignment Two … just the report to write now!

7 years ago, I wrote postcards to my year 11 class, wishing them well. I bumped into a girl last night who recently found it. It inspired her to sign up for college for September (after a difficult few years). We both cried. You never know how the little things make a difference.

's post, but read it again anyway. Utter brilliance. Right to the heart of the soul-destroying things I struggled with early in my career.
I love that our focus on improving teaching (Rosenshine) encourages experienced teachers to improve their practice. Is the year 10 SoW sequenced well? How could I make more use of modelling for these complex concepts? How can I best CFU? None of this is easy! Feeling challenged!

We’ve added a 30 minute ‘talk to us about teaching’ stage of our interview process. I find out more about a teacher from that than I do watching them teach…
English teachers… silly question… but when you’re teaching a book, do you generally teach the context of the book as you go along, before, or after reading it?
Today, I’m feeling thankful. I’m loving that I had the opportunity to start a new career in my 30s... and doing so with kids. My OH and his unswerving support have a lot to answer for. As do all my colleagues here

I have the best job in the world!
6 weeks ago, I was crippled with anxiety, struggling to cope with the emotions of
#perimenopause
. Getting meds right, being kind to myself and this holiday is already brighter. I still have bad times, but mostly, I’m feeling like a different person. It’s important to talk about.
My 2021 work motto was ‘work hard and be kind’ (Anthony Burrell). My 2022 motto was ‘done is better than perfect’. Both reflect the situations and challenges I was facing professionally. Reflecting on what my 2023 motto should be…
29 days into my new job and reflecting on what is undoubtedly my most enjoyable half term, ever. Even with everything we’re doing, teaching is still the best job in the world.
After training with
@Andy__Buck
last week (which was great!) I need to think about some coaching outside of my school.
@WomenEd
- anyone around to help this almost senior leader?
I know it’s insanely hard. I know that we’re facing ridiculous challenges. But... I just want to put it out there that I actually do, love my job. Happy weekend all!
Well. What a day. Daughter number one married to the most wonderful man. The day was perfect. Relaxed, fun, family, friends and food and dancing. Amazing x
I have had such a wonderful evening talking all things RE with my book buddy

Today, I taught ‘Pilgrimages’ to year 10. It was a joyous. Many left saying that RS was great, and that they loved learning. I love teaching them and get a real kick out of knowing they’re learning. A far cry from 4 years ago when I thought I’d hate the new GCSE!
After having to take time off before Christmas to grieve, today has been a very good day. Whilst I'm not ready to start processing my mum’s death, I am facing head on the challenge of being a senior leader AND being able to have the head space to deal with other challenges. 1/2
@missdcox
There are lots of things that put people off applying - particularly women. Putting an advert through a gender decoder (particularly if you are put off by it) is fascinating
4000 weeks was a thought provoking read as I enter my 50s. I'll revisit towards the end of the summer, but in the meantime, I'm going to practice ‘doing nothing’. That, I think will be challenge enough for the next few weeks.
Tomorrow, in celebration of our 26th(!) wedding anniversary, I’m taking my husband to Beth Chatto’s garden in Colchester... it’s a long way... fancy a cuppa
@missdcox
🤣
I’ve just finished my first MSc assignment, writing my first academic piece in years and I’ve loved it. I don’t care (today) if it’s good, but it’s relevant to my organisation and has changed the way we do things already. Really interesting and applicable. Loving

I finally feel a little bit grownup. This week, I changed my own tyre and then flew to Italy on my own. Yes, my husband printed the tickets, organised the boarding pass, reminded me to pack. I forgot my toothbrush and footwear and weather appropriate clothing, but I made it!

I'm not drinking alcohol at the moment, so I am investigating grown up drinks as a summer project. AF drinks have come a long way, so thought I would share my findings...
Moretti and Peroni 0% - I cannot taste the difference (sorry purists). Both, really lovely lagers.
Just finished ‘Old Rage’ by Sheila Hancock. My first memoir in a while. Clever, insightful, FABULOUS descriptions of her Quakerism. Yes, she's angry at the world - But more than anything, I loved the humanity and description of life through covid in her 9th decade. 5/5
I’m finally feeling better having felt pretty rubbish for weeks - so my husband decided we should take a walk... 14k later... I’m broken, but thankful to live in such a beautiful place.
I can’t keep up with my life right now. In the last 3 weeks. OH - promoted. My new job. No 1 accepted to start ITT in Sept, No 2 graduated, No4 got 3 uni offers. And any day now I might be an Aunty. It’s full on family time!

Understanding the cosmological argument helps. God doesn’t need a creator - he is uncaused. There has to be something uncaused to start the chain of causation. A bit like there has to be something outside the chain of dominoes to start it. He’s eternal - has no beginning or end.
Home - after 10 days, 2000 miles, 2 hotels, 3 campsites, 5 ‘wild’ camping spots, 8 castles, 100s of Lochs, nice dinners and lots of wine, having been sceptical, I must admit I’m totally converted to

I was told that managing them would help me be a better teacher. Well, I think it has. But only because I won’t ever allow anyone I work with to think that poor behaviour is their problem to manage. It’s not. 9/10
I was lucky - I only had that one class that I found so hard. But I know that, other teachers have classes like that all day, every day. I learned to be a better teacher because I had 17 other classes, to work with, to enjoy, to TEACH. 10/10
